I think a lot about personhood, and how the choice we make to respect each other's humanity is perhaps the most important choice we make as human beings.
I've also thought a lot lately about whether moralizing has true value, and if maybe as a society we need to evolve past such judgements, and stick instead to evaluating harm. What purpose, beyond our own self righteous anger or satisfaction, does labeling that which is right and wrong serve?
Anyone can and should proclaim their personal, individual values, but as a society, i think there's a real need for us to shift our focus to harm reduction and self responsibility, regardless of such concepts as "sin" or "wrong" or "guilty" or "blame."
Because I think often about such things, the Vatican's recent "human dignity" release is all the more frustrating.
The crux of it is that our value is conferred by God, which means, of course, anything that goes against his will is counter to our inherent dignity. According to the document, this means abortion and gender theory are immoral.
What a dangerous message. How antithetical it is to human life, human joy, and human autonomy. And how frustrating, for this document to fail so during times where a true affirmation is sorely needed.
We have humanity because we choose to treat each other like human beings. That's a frighteningly fragile thing, so I can understand the desire to attribute our humanity to some higher power. But in the end we either respect each other's autonomy or we do not.
The document makes several mentions of supporting human rights, but an ideology that denies bodily autonomy and self expression can never defend human dignity in earnest.
These are scary times. Times where we need to affirm who we are more than ever.
I believe in my inherent personhood, and I wish to live in solidarity and peace with others, therefore I affirm the humanity of others. I believe the greatest human purpose is to experience what joy, wonder, and community we can, and so I endeavor to reduce harm and increase happiness for others and myself.
That is where I come from, and the billions of beautiful people out there all have their own reasoning for why they support bodily autonomy, queer and trans rights, and self expression. Religious and nonreligious, spiritual and physicalist, from all kinds of cultural views and ideologies.
What a wonderful thing that is; I'm reaching my hands out to each and every one of you and hope we can all shape this world into a better place together.
How do you define human dignity?

the fact that "eco" and "ethical" are two separate concerns in the global north, and that "eco" is a much more popular concern, with many "eco" products being made in actual sweatshops, is a big part of why i am The Joker

Wordle is running out of words. Only 2,000 five letter words remain. When that supply is exhausted the Creation shall begin. One day the word will be ZHURM, and all shall get it, and all shall understand it to mean "an ache from suddenly remembering a long-ago friend, who meant something to you once, but whose face you can no longer conjure". The next day the word shall be JOROL, and all will get it, and all will know it means "the melancholy confusion of passing by somewhere where you once could have died". The next day it will be GREFT, and all will understand it to be a small brown bird with white streaks found only in South America, and suddenly, it will appear, in the underbrush of the Amazon, in the streets of São Paulo, and all will know that it once was not there, but now, will always be

Anyway this is why I keep saying that people refuse to be normal about the idea of mixed race people and interracial relationships and communities happening and creating children.
I am black and black only until it is convenient to call me white. And it doesn't matter that I'm also native because I'm too black to be native anyway. I've talked about being multi-racial and having even further racial mixing in my extended family since I made this blog in 2014 but that doesn't matter if any of my racial mix can be used as a weapon against me.
Y'all complain about the stereotype of the tragic mulatto without understanding why that stereotype exists in the first place.

Rice Krispies smartest decision is by far their Treat. Turning their cereal into a strange brick relies on the natural fact that all children are hopelessly dependent upon the ingot.

it's always bad for adults to interact with minors, which is why when I was born my mother was positioned at the window and I was birthed down a giant slip n slide that safely transported me to the hospital grounds, where I was quickly accepted and raised by a gang of feral babies who were born under similar circumstances. and that's why my posts are so bad
