Muharram 25 Martyrdom of Imam al-Sajjad 95/713 Imam al-Sajjad (a) was martyred in 94/713 (or 95/714) with a poison given by the order of al-Walid b. 'Abd al-Malik.He (a) was buried in al-Baqi' cemetery beside his uncle, Imam al-Hasan al-Mujtaba (a). In the Battle of Karbala and on the day Imam al-Husayn (a) and his companions were martyred, Imam al-Sajjad (a) was severely sick so that in some cases when they wanted to kill him, some said, "This sickness is enough for him After the tragedy of Karbala, they captured the family of Imam al-Husayn (a) and took them to Kufa and Damascus. Upon taking them from Karbala to Kufa, they put Jami'a [hand-to-neck chains] on him, and since he was sick and could not keep sitting on the back of the camel, they fastened his feet under the belly of the camel. In any case, 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad kept Imam al-Sajjad (a) and other captives of Karbala in prison and wrote a letter to Damascus and asked Yazid what to do with them. Yazid replied and ordered him to send captives and the heads of the martyrs of Karbala to Damascus. 'Ubayd Allah b. Ziyad put shackles on Imam's (a) neck and sent him and other captives with Muhaffar b. Tha'laba to Damascus Imam al-Sajjad (a) gave a speech in the mosque of Damascus and introduced himself, his father, and his grandfather to people and told the people of Damascus that what Yazid and his agents have propagated are not true. His father was not a rebel and did not want to disturb the Muslim community and make mischief in Islamic lands. He (a) rose for truth and by invitation of Muslims to remove heresies brought up in religion and bring the simplicity and purity it had at the time of his grandfather. Imam al-Sajjad (a) lived 34 years after the Battle of Karbala and always made efforts to keep the memory of the martyrs of Karbala alive. Whenever he (a) drank water, he remembered his father and wept on the hardships of Imam al-Husayn (a). It is mentioned in a narration from Imam al-Sadiq (a) that, "Imam al-Sajjad (a) wept forty years upon his honorable father, while he (a) was fasting the days and praying the nights. @voiceofkarbalaofficial #karbala #sajjad #imamsajjad https://www.instagram.com/p/CTgF383CK75/?utm_medium=tumblr

Shi’a Muslims all over the world mark the festival with a voluntary day of fasting. As well as commemorating the death of Husayn in battle, Muslims remember the day Noah left the Ark and the day Musa was saved from the Egyptians by God. The ten days before the festival are a period of mourning. On Ashura, many Muslims wear black and there are often parades through the streets. Plays re-enacting the death of Husayn are often performed to remind Muslims of the events that led to his death. Ashura is a reminder of the suffering the Shi’a community has experienced as they have been persecuted as a minority. Eid-ul-Ghadeer is a Shi’a festival that celebrates the appointment of Ali ibn Abi Talib, Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law, as the Prophet’s successor. The festival takes its name from the place where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have made this announcement, the Pond of Khumm. This was a place where people gathered and greeted one another before returning to their homes after Hajj. Shi’a Muslims believe that this was the last time the Prophet addressed a gathering of people before he died. Shi’a Muslims around the world celebrate this day with various customs. Typically, presents are given and people take ritual baths and eat celebratory meals. Many Shi’a Muslims fast on this day and they may wear their best clothes. Some recite a special prayer praising Allah and thanking him for the faithful and infallible imams. Eid-e-Ghadir Khumm is the day in which Rasulullah SA delivered the final message, the final farizat– the walaayat of his wasiyy, Maulana Ali SA. We are blessed and fortunate that over 1400 years later we are among those who have fulfilled the oath of Ghadeer. @voiceofkarbalaofficial https://www.instagram.com/reel/CR1I5-5jBtZ/?utm_medium=tumblr
