Yea! Absolutely! A great way to see how constant infections affect bone is to look at animal skulls with tooth infections/dental diseases!
Tumblr media
Often times, if i remember correctly, if the infection was long LONG lasting, repetitive, the bone will start to look spongey, swollen, and can be flakey and fragile even, esp with dental disease
Tumblr media
Like in this coyote! Can even have more noticeable holes, especially (i think) if an abscess was involved?
heyo weird question uhh
does anyone know if constant infections will affect bone? and if it does are there any images of it?
i need it for a character ^^; all images i can find of bone infections are usually still in the body, but i find it easier to understand cleaned bones

hey fellow folks. apparently tumblr is banning the words b0nes, s.kull, and d.eath. Which is fucked up. And means vulture culture and taxidermy content is gonna get impossible to find. yikes.
be careful how you tag

Looks like a cat skull of some sort! Probably a domestic cat judging by the size alone! Really neat find!!!
Need help identifying this skull. Found on mount. Paraska near Lviv (Ukraine). When i found it, most teeth were already lost so i don`t know what they looked like with teeth Sorry for the photo quality.

They MIGHT be dermestid beetle larvae! if you dont mind looking up bugs, you can go see if they look like the bugs on the skull. Taxidermists and Vultures use those beetles to clean the skulls and sometimes the babies get left behind.
Hey guys, we ordered a fox skull from a small vulture culture shop, but when it came in the mail it had tiny little light-colored bugs crawling all over it.
We have no idea what they are and Google isn't turning up any answers.
Could anyone who's into taxidermy or vulture culture help us identify them and figure out what the issue is?

I'm just curious why animal names need to have the periods in them? For example, b.ob.c.at, etc.?
Great question! It has to do with tumblr's tagging and searching system! Even though a post may not be tagged as "#bobcat", it will still show up in tumblr searches for "Bobcat". And if you dont break up the word, then some poor soul who doesn't want to see skulls, bones, pelts, or dead animals, who may be trying to scroll through lovely art and pictures of their fav animal, is gonna get quite the unwanted shock! So its mostly just a courtesy thing!

Raccoons are notoriously greasy little beasts, my best guess is that it wasnt fully degreased, and if the box was warm at all this summer, sitting wrapped up in the heat drew out some more of that deep grease, but sometimes it happens just over time in general! Tragically I don't know of any options that wouldn't require ruining the glue, but if it helps any, sometimes degreasing can take months by itself, so it can be something you put aside and leave it for when you have more time for projects! The easiest method would be to soak the whole thing in warm dishsoap-y [clear dishsoap preferred so it doesnt get dyed at all] water and let it soak for however long it takes for the water to stop getting foggy between changes! But ofc, this means the glue will likely come undone and you will have to be careful not to lose any teeth between changes.
hey can anyone who knows about bones offer some insight here?
i bought this raccoon skull at a ??gift shop?? a few months ago and when we moved i packed it in some bubble wrap, it was in a box for probably 2 months and when i unpacked it today it was super yellowed. unless my memory is faulty and i bought it like that, i’d assume this is a result of something that happened while it was packed, or it was just greasy to begin with. i think it may have also been treated/sealed with some kind of epoxy or lacquer and it’s definitely a real skull. i’m not too torn up about it but if there’s a way i can whiten it (assuming it’s been lacquered) without ruining the glue then i’m open to suggestions. as if i’m not up to my neck in projects already lol
