At some point as a child you start picking up that sometimes grownups just pretend to be impressed and amazed by something you did in order to encourage you to do more of it. What they don't put together before being adults themselves is that the "holy shit you've grown" is not one of them. Like when you're a kid you've been growing all your life, so someone pointing out that you've done it again every time they see you seems weirdly redundant, like yeah duh no shit, I literally physically cannot stop doing that, why are you shocked every single time.
But from the perspective of an adult who has no kids, small kids are essentially just cute animals. That will slowly animorph into an actual human being. And it is 100% just as astonishingly wild and insane as that sounds. Imagine going to visit a friend you haven't seen for a while, and you hear something running to the door behind them and remember that they have a dog! That you haven't seen for a long while either! No it's okay no need to apologise, let me see the doggy!
HOLY SHIT IT HAS HANDS. SINCE WHEN HAS IT HAD HANDS?!

I wish I could post this on TikTok.
“If anyone needs to go camping in my state…” “If anyone needs to visit their aunt/cousin/friend…”
STOP. STOP STOP STOP STOP STOP.
FOR YOUR SAFETY, S T O P.
Tumblr media
DO NOT VOLUNTEER TO HOST RANDOM STRANGERS. DO NOT AGREE TO BE HOSTED BY A RANDOM STRANGER.
DO NOT PUBLICLY POST THAT YOUR HOUSE WILL BE AN ABORTION SAVE HAVEN. OFFICIAL NETWORKS TO DO THIS ALREADY EXIST, NETWORKS THAT HAVE THE ABILITY TO BACKGROUND CHECK, AND SHIELD THEIR VOLUNTEERS FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT
I know how obnoxious this is to say, but please: reblog this. I see these posts a lot, and I know most of you have good intentions. But these unoffical auntie networks are dangerous, both for those trying to help, and those seeking help. Law enforcement sees you. Violent anti-abortion extremists see you.

(This is too long for a comment)
I’m so sorry you went through that. It’s horrible that you experienced all of it, and that you had to in the first place :/ I’m glad that, like you said, “time and positive action heals all.”
I understand your argument that in your case, abortion wasn’t the right choice. Two points however. First and foremost, the fact that you didn’t get the care and consideration you chose is horrible. And yet that wasn’t entirely because you had an abortion: it was because the system failed you (and yes, also because an abortion is traumatizing). Second: pro-life versus pro-choice, Roe v Wade, this whole debate was never entirely about justifying abortions. Abortions are not ideal! As I think your experience displays: abortions are traumatizing and hard and people don’t get them randomly. At this point, nor should they, because as your experience also demonstrates, the process of getting an abortion is messed up and needs fixing. The point is the choice. If someone is in your situation, they should have the choice to get an abortion. Stories like yours are important because the answer is NOT always “yes you need to get an abortion after being raped.” But sometimes it is. And right now, and in the future, that choice is being threatened.
If a person with a uterus decides they need an abortion, they should have that option. Sometimes carrying that child to labor and raising them can be just as horrific of an experience as your experience with your abortion. Neither of these experiences is less valid. Right now one of them is being challenged.
aight y’know what FINE. I’m gonna make the damn post.
since roe got overturned y’all motherfuckers have done nothing but screech about “WELL WHAT IF YOU WERE RAPED WHAT THEN” & other equally shitty scenarios.
I was raped, and I got an abortion. I am part of that 1% of cases y’all love to use to prop up your bullshit arguments.
I did it without anesthesia. I drove myself home. I was numb for probably another two years after. when it finally did hit me, I was the most suicidal I had ever been and I stayed that way until probably last year. all total it’s been eight years since it happened.
the clinic I went to didn’t offer me help. they didn’t give me options. they didn’t have a post-op checkup. no one gave a shit. no one stopped my trafficker, no one found out, even my closest family didn’t even know until I finally escaped. it was just me, alone, throwing up in a trash can and sitting in post op until the dizziness went away enough for me to drive.
the fact that it was so easy for me to get an abortion by myself (even in a red state, no questions asked) made it easier for my trafficker to slide under the radar. because no one asked questions about why I wanted to end my pregnancy, he got away with what he had done. because no one cared enough to step in and stop me, he went on to abuse me for almost another two years. if someone had just given a shit, maybe I would have escaped that much earlier. maybe he would have faced more severe consequences. maybe I wouldn’t be so fucked up.
don’t you fuckers ever pretend you give a shit about people like me. if you did, you would have been supporting crisis centers, pro-life pregnancy centers, and places that actually care about the situations that women are in when they deal with unexpected or traumatic pregnancies. you would be encouraging pregnant women and telling them that they ARE strong enough, they ARE brave enough, that they are loved and they will be okay and supported and that having a kid will not kill their career or end their school life. you would be telling them that a disabled child, an adopted child, an unexpected child is not unworthy of life itself just because that life will be difficult.
on that note, fuck you, life will ALWAYS be difficult. but you can make it an enjoyable fight, or a miserable truce. you can spit the blood out of your mouth and stick a roll of dimes in your hand and hit back harder or you can lay down and let shit curbstomp you and swallow your own broken teeth. the difference is in how you step outside of yourself and into the lives of the people around you. the difference is in how you love, and if you actually love people, you will never advocate for their death.
stop using situations like mine to excuse your own cognitive dissonance. I’m sick of y’all’s shit.

yknow ever since people realized tumblr isnt dead and have decided to flock here from twitter and tiktok ive seen a huge influx of people in fandom spaces who dont reblog anything. at all.
like, i used to have an art blog with 340 followers. not a ton but not a small amount either given how this website works with creators. and in my experience back then even the ones who only left likes still reblogged other things or at least posted their own stuff. literally the only empty blogs were clearly bots.
but on this New art blog, i've had so many people with fandom-specific headers and icons with actual usernames as urls and some kind of title or description, but have. Nothing. no posts. all they do is like things. and it's always public, too. their following list and their likes list.
and honestly all it makes me think is that these people are New and also don't know how tumblr works. how likes don't give exposure. not even in a "oh, i know it doesn't give exposure, but i'm still going to reblog anyways" way, but in a genuine honest to god straight up doesn't realize tumblr likes don't work like twitter's.
PLEASE please if you're from tiktok or twitter or whatever please reblog people's art both fandom and original if you like it!! and maybe actually pad out your blog's content in some way so people won't potentially see you as a bot and block you.
REBLOG ARTIST'S WORK. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY GET ANY ATTENTION ON THIS WEBSITE OH MY GOD. PLEASE. I BEG of you

Hey yall, I wanted to make a PSA about this because it'll be useful to many of you in the United States. You might qualify for public assistance now, specifically because of rising food prices.
The federal poverty line, the biggest determining factor for public assistance, has been kept artificially low for decades because it was based on the outdated assumption that food was the primary expense for most American households. For decades now, shelter has been the larger expense, but the federal poverty limit has still been determined based on the prices of food commodities.
Because food prices have recently gone up, the federal poverty line has gone up significantly as well. This means if you were previously slightly over the income limit to qualify for public assistance such as food stamps or medicaid, you likely qualify now. I'd like to encourage everyone who thinks they might qualify to apply for these programs. The qualification cutoffs are still absurdly low, so please be assured that if you qualify for assistance, you're not taking something you don't need or deserve.
Please reblog this if you think your followers will find it useful. I haven't seen anyone talking about this, it's just something I noticed recently, so I want the info to become more public to help people who might be struggling.
