I know that we here on tumblr have had our posts stolen and rewritten by many a twitter user, and that they speak of of tumblr as a hellsite (derogatory) when it is really a hellsite (affectionate)
But now that Elon owns twitter, we must welcome new and returning users with open arms.
Every twitter user converted is one step closer to Elon Musk pulling a yahoo and loosing 99% of Twitters value.
Can we please now have the conversation that people, even non-lesbians in the community, still treat lesbian relationship differently from gay relationships?
I'm really happy for Heartstopper getting renewed, it's a great show and I love the comic books but isn't it strange that literally all wlw shows no matter how good they perform will constantly get cancelled?
The fact that we still hear people, even queer women, say that they find the word lesbian to be gross, straight men seeing lesbians as just a porn genre and nothing else, "allies" saying that gay men are ok but gay women? Kissing? Ugh, gross!
This has been a problem from the begging of times, women have always been harshly criticized and punished for expressing their sexuality.
Fuck Netflix and fuck everyone who fought against this show.
First Kill was set up to fail right out of the gates.
It was a diverse show streamed on a platform that is proudly anti-diversity, it got zero promotion or advertisement from said platform, it had fans who were sabotaging viewership before the show had even aired, and it was released at the same time as big shows with pre-existing bases like Stranger Things and Umbrella Academy.
And somehow, despite all that, First Kill outsold. It swept the competition of their feet. It got more buzz than anyone could've anticipated.
Which is exactly what makes Netflix so fucking stupid for trying to cite numbers as the reason for the abrupt cancellation. Especially when the numbers are public, have been public since the series' debut, and have been praised the entire time.
And it's scary that they're getting so comfortable with lying when the actual numbers are right in front of our faces. They're not announcing these cancellations with "heavy hearts" anymore. They've dropped the act of caring, and it's become more obvious than ever that it's because they don't think they even have to pretend to care about diversity anymore.
And they're right. The film industry has once again become a climate where they feeling comfortable exposing their bigotry to everyone, knowing there's nothing anyone can do and that they can just keep doing it.
We've seen the pattern. Batwoman, Legends, Legacies, Motherland: Fort Salem, The Wilds, now First Kill. I know there's many I've missed in that list. That's the worst part. Networks are not even disguising their intentions anymore.
First Kill's not the first and it won't be the last, but I really fucking hope it can be the loudest.
