this one was started as a "wouldn't it be fucked if" type au because @myhamartiaishubris wrote an au where YSS is the only one who lives. I currently have exactly two lines written for this and probably won't write more for a while at least so enjoy!

Qian Zhao wakes to the news that Sun Lang and the emperor are dead. He spares the emperor a brief, snarled “good riddance,” and then demands Shisan take him to Sun Lang’s grave.

so this one is another JoL post-canon fixit-ish au. I have nothing actually written for this au beyond the ask that spawned it here, but if you don't want to read all that, here's the basic rundown: Shen-xiaojie fakes her death during the "betrayal" where yby stabs fx. She runs off and meets Grandma Fan and becomes a confident woman. Meanwhile, yby drags fx to the Teng Family Farm, where it's revealed that Teng Zijing was *also* faking his death (again).

I dunno if there's a specific pattern here, but I think I tend to start with an image--- there's definitely a theme in my time travel stories of waking up. I think they also set the tone of the story--- in huckleberry, cherry, or rye, you immediately know this is meant to be funny. In mountain of knives, you immediately know this is serious and angsty. In like an insect trapped in amber, you can tell it's experimental--- that's a newspaper headline.

Of these, I think my favorite is like a blurred photograph, just because I'm very proud of the prose in that one, and the first line is reiterated in the final line.

25: Is there anything you would change now about this fic? Why or why not?

I think I'd change some of the details, make them more consistent throughout. Also, I'd spend more time with Gu-furen and the Socialites and devote more time to what they're doing in their spy ring.

I'd also probably adjust the ending enough that it doesn't feel as abrupt to me either--- three years later and I think I could finally write those dreaded politics enough that I'm not simply glossing over it completely.

(Also, some copy-editing re: typos, formatting, etc.)

minor spoilers for the latest PJO episode under the cut.

So I messaged @myhamartiaishubris about my thoughts on the show version of the Lotus Hotel & Casino and what it meant for Bianca and Nico earlier today. I did not intend to write it but i ended up changing my mind. elaboration and snippet under the cut

so in the show, the Lotus Hotel & Casino makes Grover forget about Percy & Annabeth for a while, and they were only there for a little bit. So what would this version of the Casino do to Bianca and Nico's memories? Anyway! Snippet!

Bianca di Angelo knows three things when their supposed father’s lawyer drops her and Nico off at the boarding school.  1. She is twelve years old. 2. She is an older sister. 3. She doesn’t remember anything from before the hotel, including her brother. The school is fine, as far as she can tell. She keeps Nico close because she was told to do so, and he does look like he could be her brother. He is bright and happy and some nights, when the shadows are especially long, he seems to disappear into them. Bianca isn’t sure if she does the same. In the three days they are at the school, Nico manages to build up a collection of cards and figurines for a game called Mythomagic. Then there is a dance, and everything comes crashing down. A boy called Percy Jackson attempts to save them from a teacher who is a monster. In his attempt, a girl named Annabeth Chase falls off a cliff. Another girl named Thalia Grace argues with Percy about it, and the anxiously nerdy boy, Grover, who arrived the day after Nico and Bianca wrings his hands nearby. The other group, all girls, mills about and then there is another argument. The leader, who is apparently the greek goddess Artemis, entrusts them all to her brother Apollo.

WIP Wednesday

This is the next installment of @vyther15's ajtl fix-it timeline (go read it RIGHT NOW). It involves some very specific Qian Zhao headcanons V and I share.

Chai Ming was eight. “There is another way,” she told him, something like sympathy in her eyes (but Qian Zhao would soon learn that Chu Sanqi could lie without her tongue). “You’re also a son of Chai Manor. His Majesty only wants a hostage. And you would be treated well. Warm meals, a dry bed. They won’t make you do anything dirty. Probably you’ll end up in the Heaven Path.” Qian Zhao knew his father couldn’t give enough of a shit about what happened to him in Liudao. But it meant a good roof over his head without servants who looked at him like the scum beneath their shoes. It meant getting away from the house that had used and cast aside his mother like a worn doll. It meant keeping Chai Ming—

It meant keeping Chai Ming out of his way, Qian Zhao decided. If he wasn’t in Chai Manor, he told himself, he wouldn’t have to keep pretending to tolerate his half-brother just for the luxury of not being punished. So Qian Zhao joined the Heaven Path, and Chai Ming was no longer his brother. And Chu Sanqi was a liar through and through, but she was also his only friend. At thirteen years old, Qian Zhao saw clearly enough that Chu Sanqi only lied for her allegiance. So they stayed friends. Three years later, Chai Ming joined Liudao Hall anyway, and Qian Zhao nearly took Chu Sanqi’s head off. But by then he’d learned to tell when she was lying, and the grief in her eyes was true. So they stayed friends.

(Fun fact: Chu Sanqi is, indeed, the dead fiancee that Chai Ming mentions in V's fic. She's, uh, not actually all that involved with Chai Ming, relatively speaking.)

Qian Zhao buries his feelings about that deep inside with the pit of rage that has been simmering since he received his final letter from Chai Ming with the formal one reporting the deaths and apparent treason of sixteen brothers. He brushes off Yu Shisan’s subtle probing and Sun Lang’s more overt checking-in.

Instead, he devotes himself to ensuring they can get the emperor out of the An prison. Once the emperor is out of the prison, he can avenge his missing brother and the other dead men of Liudao Hall.

(Or, Chai Ming's body is not among those Li Tongguang buried.)
