ORIENTAL - FLAMENCO DANCE: CONNECTING BODY AND SPIRIT
Tumblr media
For this edition, we are introducing WAALM’s new collaborating artist, Martinica Ferrara Strova, a talented Dancer and Choreographer from Italy.
WT: Martinica, welcome to WAALM Tribune.
MFS: My pleasure.
WT: For those who get to know you for the first time, tell us about your background?
MFS: I’m a flamenco and oriental dancer, choreographer, and teacher, from Fiano Romano, a small but friendly town near Rome, Italy. My mother and I are the artistic director of the Omphalos Cultural Center. We are specially known for our oriental dance style and artistic interpretation in Italy. Additionally, twenty years ago, my parents founded the Breath Theatre, the only theatre created for oriental dance – a legacy that I am still following and contributing. We promote a multidisciplinary approach to performance, and our choreographies are characterized by the use of various textiles, like veils, wings, fan-veils and other props. I formally studied Oriental Dance and Flamenco, first in Italy, and then in Seville, Spain.
WT: What made you become interested in this form of art, in dance?
MFS: I grow up with dance. Actually thanks to my mother, who is a dancer too, I started dancing when I was only a little girl. I can say I am perhaps fortunate to grow up with dance as my friend, and now as my main passion. To me, dance is the art of connecting body and spirit. The overwhelming feeling of freedom of movements, improvisation, and personal expressions through dance not only can improve one’s confidence, but also can encourage others to experience the same.
WT: In your view, what distinguishes you and your technique from others?
MFS: I formally studied, and still keep studying Oriental Dance and Flamenco as a professional field of art. I’m very dedicated to the Oriental-Flamenco fusion. It’s a language full of artistic possibilities, and for the past few years, I strived to improve my craft and add more and more creativity to it. My dance and its technical execution include use of props, which I inherited and learned from my mother. I often explore objects, and do my best to give them life on stage. Whether I use a fan or a veil, I make sure props are incorporated in such way that they don’t appear simply as accessories, but the essential, integral part of the scene. In my experience, that would facilitate a more passionate, intimate and elegant performance.
Tumblr media
WT: Artistically, what is your ultimate goal? What is it that you would like to accomplish through dance?
MFS: My desire is to produce more Oriental Dance acts at the Breath Theater, and promote the study of Oriental Flamenco. To that end, I presented and performed in a number of TV shows, and even got covered in an article by Vanity Fair. Promoting Oriental Flamenco, not just as a dance, but as a field of study in performing arts is my goal.
WT: In you opinion, how dance can address social issues? Can dance be a uniter for a greater good?
MFS: Yes, absolutely. Because dance naturally brings down walls and unites people. It’s a medium which communicates in all honesty, and can immediately connect us all, no matter how strange or how far we are from each other in the world.
WT: You have been recently invited by WAALM Productions to dance and feature on a Flamenco track scored by a highly-regarded Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us more about this project. What was your experience like, and how did you connect with his music, personally and artistically?
MFS: Yes, the music is titled: ‘Devil in Love’, which will be released in Feb. 03. 2023. From the first listening, I liked the melancholy of the composed melody, and its lively rhythm of the Rumba-Flamenco. So, I tried to embody those two energies through my choreography for the project. Artistically, I represent the project through two different frames in the video. That is. two characters framed like paintings in movement. I really enjoyed creating them. For this project, I applied make up in an uncommon way inspiration by the aesthetic of the early flamenco dancers of the forties. It was a nice experience, and I hope viewers like it too.
WT: For those who wish to follow your art, what is next?
MFS: Effective January 2023, I’ll be engaged developing a new project in Oriental Flamenco – series of solo and group performances at our theater. You can learn more about the forthcoming projects and performances through my social media sites.
WT: Martinica, thank you for attending this interview and good luck with everything.
MFS: Thanks for having me.

MARENA IN KINGDOM OF FAR
A year past since Christa Marena joined WAALM's roster and in such a short period, she achieved a lot. In this short interview, we briefly look back, and then check out her new single:
Tumblr media
WT: Now that you are officially an Award-winning published singer, how is your feeling about your collaboration with WAALM and Mosi Dorbayani during the past year?
CM: I am grateful for all the opportunities that I’ve had to work with them. They’ve been enriching and fun. I truly enjoyed collaborating and they provided me with a nice roadmap to score artistic success.
WT: What are the top three elements that you find attractive or interesting in the songs that Mosi wrote for you so far?
CM: I like the fact that he writes to impact society in a positive way. The lyrics of the songs he writes for me are meaningful and worthy of sharing. I also like that he tries new different genres and gets me out of my comfort zone. Due to him, I’ve released two country songs (one won the best country singer from Lit Music Awards, New York), a rock pop song, and now a reggae song. One of the songs he selected for me was vocally challenging, but I really liked that, because it helped me to improve my vocal technique in order to deliver the song.
Tumblr media
WT: How did you connect and related to 'Kingdom of Far' and its message? Is Reggae a genre that interested you?
CM: I never imagined myself releasing a reggae song, but when I listened to the song, I knew I wanted to be part of it. The first song that I wrote and released was a 'tropical house', so this was a nice opportunity to connect with my love for the beach and nature. In particular, I like the positive message that it transmits. To me, the ‘Kingdom of Far’, is a place of peace that we should all search for and look after.
Tumblr media
WT: What was your experience during its music video shooting?
CM: We filmed it in two different locations in my country Guatemala. Both places where far from where I live in. We put a lot of effort in the video because we wanted to showcase different parts of our beautiful nature. We filmed it in some of the tropical zones that we have: a theme park located in Retalhuleu, and one of our beaches with Volcanic sand. Moreover, this was also an opportunity for me to be a cultural ambassador for my country as well.

MUSIC: A PLACE WHERE I CAN BE MYSELF
Tumblr media
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we are introducing our readers to a newly discovered talent, May Protopapa, from Greece.
WT: Mary, Welcome to WAALM Tribune.
MP: My pleasure
WT: What made you enter the world of music, how everything started?
MP: Growing up I wasn't sure what I wanted to do in my life, but I always knew that there was a little artist living in me! It wasn't until I was 19 years old when I shared with my family that I wanted to become a professional singer. Thinking about it, I still feel a little sad that I dropped out of college to follow my dream, but I was lucky to work in great places with wonderful people and for that I feel grateful.
WT: What is music and singing to you?
MP: Music has always been my shelter. A place where I can hide when my fears grow. A place that allows me to be myself. I think everyone needs one, and as an artist I feel blessed everyday that I am able to do what I love and express myself through singing. It gives me life.
WT: Who are your musical influencers?
MP: Although a Greek, there wasn't much Greek music in the house. My mother always loved the great ladies of soul. As a child I recall voices of Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan felt our home all the time. Those voices definitely speak to my heart, but I really enjoy all kinds of music.
Tumblr media
WT: You have recently recorded a single debut, titled: ‘A Silent Note’, your first international collaboration with the highly-regarded Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project - how did you connect with the song and how did it relate to you?
MP: This is my first collaboration with Mosi Dorbayani and hopefully not the last. The lyrics spoke to me right away, and I felt really connected with the nostalgic sound of its music and enjoyed every minute recording it.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what’s in the pipeline, and what are your official pages?
MP: We just finished filming the music video for 'A Silent Note', and it is in post production. I am told the music video will come out in two different versions a few months separate from each other. Let's hope someday I see you all in the beautiful island of Rhodes, in Greece, where I perform live! You can always follow me on social media.

KATE TODD: A VOICE FOR HUMANITY
The United Nations' General Assembly proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice and Equality in 2007, inviting Member States to devote the day to promoting national activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the World Summit for Social Development.
Tumblr media
Observance of World Day of Social Justice and Equality should support efforts of the international community in gender equity, access to social well-being , poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work and justice for all.
Social Justice and Equality are the underlying principles for 'peaceful and prosperous coexistence' within and among nations. We uphold the principles of social justice and equality when we promote gender 'equality' or the 'rights of indigenous peoples' and 'migrants'. We advance social justice and equality when we remove barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.
Tumblr media
To highlight UN's World Day of Social Justice and Equality, The World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media (WAALM), in association with Music Mentor Productions published 'To Whom It May Concern', a message song written by Mosi Dorbayani, voiced by multitalented artist, Kate Todd, actress/singer/songwriter.
This beautiful piece which is arranged by Amarita and mastered to perfection by Peter Linseman, was originally released in 2017, and since then it is regularly referred to by supporters of this annual observation.
To review this impactful project, we invited Kate Todd for an interview, followed by sharing some reports on its worldwide achievements.
Tumblr media
WT: For those who get to know you for the first time, how did it all start for you? How did you enter the world of music?
KT: Music was always playing in our household. My grandmother was the choirmaster at church and played multiple instruments. My love and appreciation of music started there. I began playing the piano at the age of 8. I picked up the guitar when I was cast as musician ‘Lily/Shady Lane’ on the TV show 'Radio Free Roscoe.’ During that time I turned my focus to the guitar and began to write songs in my trailer on set. After the show ended, I continued my musical journey writing, performing and recording albums and ultimately went on to complete my Bachelor of Music degree from York University in Toronto, Canada.
WT: What is music to you?
KT: Music is a universal language. It has the ability to connect and transcend. It stimulates social-emotional understanding. It heals by helping us to understand and release emotions. Music is what makes us human.
WT: You are also an accomplished actress in your own rights. How do you perceive yourself – a singer who can act, or an actress who can sing?
KT: I perceive myself as someone who is a lifelong student of the arts. Music and acting have continually intertwined throughout my career starting with my first role as a singer/songwriter ‘Lily Randall’ on ‘Radio Free Roscoe.’ My acting background offers a deep sense of empathy and understanding of the lyrics I sing. Studying music taught the importance of the space between the notes. I began to realize how much that concept overlaps with acting - breathing through transitions, connecting to your intentions to evoke an authentic emotional performance.
WT: While attending high school you tutored French and gained you compulsory community service hours traveling to local schools addressing students on the issues of bullying. Several years later, you lent your talent and became the voice of Canada for one of the biggest musical projects for humanity in the world, the song, ‘Walk in Style’ – a message song to victims of bullying. What made you care for that subject matter?
KT: I believe that everyone deserves to be treated with respect. No one is above another and everyone is entitled to feel safe to be themselves. I love the line: ‘Be a victor and not a victim’ from ‘Walk in Style.’ It gives hope to those being affected by bullying and promotes a very strong message for others to embrace their uniqueness, be positive and to hold onto their values through tough times.
WT: In 2011, you were the spokesperson for The Alliance Against Modern Slavery at York University in Toronto, a non-profit organization seeking to combat human trafficking through partnerships, education, and research. But your activism did not end there, and in 2017 you recorded ‘To Whom It May Concern’, a message song written by your fellow Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani – highlighting the United Nations’ International Day of Social Justice and Equality. Tell us about your memories recording that song, and how it resonated with you?
Tumblr media
KT: It was an honor to collaborate with the talented Mosi Dorbayani once again for the United Nations International Day of Social Justice. I recorded the vocals on ‘To Whom It May Concern’ in Toronto, ON with producer Peter Linseman at his studio. We felt we were recording a very special song. The lyrical sentiments resonated as the writings promoted the importance of empathy and encouraged people to unite and recognize that we are all one.
WT: As a responsible artist, you have always answered the calls for recording songs for causes close to your heart – songs that are socially conscious. Of course such non-profit and charitable projects in nature, are targeting the society differently than those typical commercial releases. Mosi, your collaborating songwriter, in his award-winning book ‘Message Song’ states: "Delivering message songs is a great responsibility. Your voice may become the voice of those voiceless, and your words, the words of those inarticulate". Here are the questions: A) What made you become a responsible artist? And B) What did you learn, or experienced along the way by recording those songs, which you may want to share with readers or other artists?
KT: I’ve always felt compelled to write and perform music that uplifts and inspires others. I was taught to treat others with respect, love one another and to spread positivity. When I was approached by WAALM with these songs, I was excited to take part as it aligns with my personal value system.
When performing the songs from WAALM, I found myself inspired by the lyrics as I sang them. Subsequently, every time that I listen back to the songs there are different lines that grab my attention. There are so many great passages found in these works. They are socially conscious songs for the ages - something you can listen to everyday and take away a different message of inspiration.
WT: Thank you for attending this interview, and for lending your voice and talent to this cause.
KT: My pleasure
Now, let us share you with more insights on this project, and see how impactful this song and collaboration was so far.
As it is known to many, Mosi Dorbayani, the songwriter for this project, is an Expert Member of The Academic Council on the United Nations System, who also has consultative roles with many UN affiliated organizations. As an Economist and Public Diplomacy adviser, he is often sought after by both private and governmental agencies.
On 'social equality', and on this project Mosi says:
"Perhaps the core issue in almost every society is with the ‘equal opportunity’. Some reserve opportunities for themselves and for their closest ones, with limited or no regards for others. In many cases, certain figures and societies do not see themselves as part of the fabric for a larger society. Everybody has a dream, dream for a better opportunity, for a better tomorrow. But sadly many believe, facilitating dreams of others to turn into reality, may reduce chances for their own dreams come true. They are prepared to allow jealously, greed, and act of inhumanity take over, and let others’ dreams crumble –at the expense of achieving one exclusively for themselves. As for the song, my technical approach in writing this message song and its melody was similar to the previously shared socially conscious songs. But this time, I decided to make it sound as if I am writing a heartfelt letter to all the mankind across the globe –hence the title ‘To Whom It May Concern’. I tried to voice my concerns metaphorically in form of a ‘letter song’ - deliberately mentioning and reminding listeners of ‘human values’. And of course nobody could have done it as beautiful as Kate Todd. She is one my favorite voices of all time."
Tumblr media
Thanks to WAALM's project management operation model, the project reached out to fives continents. Most number of engagements by region are from:
- North America: 40%
- South America: 20%
- Europe: 20%
- Asia: 15%
- Africa: 5%
With 1.2 million FREE streams (including SoundCloud); FM/AM Broadcast to 900,000,000 listeners around the globe, 150,000 song shares via email attachment to organizations/institutions/schools, and 99% Positive vote on its impact, this is considered as one of the most influential message songs in recent decades.
Tumblr media
Few months ago, during a collaborative seminar at the UN in Geneva, 'To Whom It May Concern', was shared with the attendees (both in person and online around the world) during which, the song made available for free - facilitating the message gets across to over 700,000 on SoundCloud platform. Currently, To Whom It May Concern' is standing at 2nd place behind 'Hopes in Chain' –another message song also written by Mosi Dorbayani.
'To Whom It May Concern' is not only one of the most outreached message songs in the world, but also by far it is one of Kate's most listened to songs of all time.
But of course its impact and contribution to the world and humanity does not end there!
This project also contributed to education and research. Researchers at WAALM School of Cultural Diplomacy - SCD, wanted to know if young non-native English speakers with drawing skills could understand the theme/message of the song, and if their imagination after listening to its audio, could project the same message.
And of course the results were astonishing. In most cases, the young drawing artists could capture the essence of the message visually very well.
Tumblr media
Drawing the song by: Rumi Das - Impression of the artist from listening to the message song -'To Whom It May Concern'
Tumblr media
Drawing the song by: Iqbal Ali - Impression of the artist from listening to the message song -'To Whom It May Concern'
The project also created a platform for discussion and dialogue across the social media pages and communities with over 100,000 followers, and it captured the attention of several journals and major news organizations.
Thanks to responsible radio stations and show producers with heart of gold, from the North West Coast of England, to South Florida, USA – To Whom It May Concern, is a letter song to humanity, being sent over the radio waves to millions across the globe.

DESIRE AND REFUGE
Tumblr media
Celebrating love, especially during the Valentine's week, WAALM just released a romantic song titled: 'Love As We Once Knew', which is written by noted Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani, which is arranged by talented, A. Filippetti.
This beautiful love song is voiced by talented Christa Marena, from Guatemala.
Speaking of love, we wanted to know what love is to Christa. How she sees love. And here is her answer:
youtube
CM: Love is the combination of desire and refuge. It’s where you can find shelter. It’s hard to find love, because you can’t vibe with everyone. But when you do, then perhaps it's better to treasure that. And here is when the message of song comes to life..
'Love As We Once Knew' is about a girl who had love and didn’t know it. She underestimated what she had. Now she’s trying to get it back.
I think it’s important to be trustful in your relationship, because once you lose trust there’s no way to get it back. It’s important to communicate and be honest about how you feel from the beginning.
If you don’t feel comfortable with something it’s important to talk about it. If you feel that you can’t be no longer in the relationship, it’s better to be clear and break up, before you hurt each other deeper.
Love starts from being congruent with oneself.

AN INEXTINGUISHABLE CANDEL
Tumblr media
Celebrating Valentine's Day, WAALM release 'When Answers The Heart', a love song in Swing-Jazz style. This sensational romantic song is written by well-regarded Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani, and its is arranged for a semi live recording by N. Posternak from Argentina.
This beautiful masterpiece is voiced by soprano Maria Mitich, applying her smoky voice to render this love song in Jazz.
Speaking of love, we wanted to know what Maria think of love and relations. So, she answered the followings:
youtube
MM: Love is a superior force. The ultimate motivator. The most humane, and the most universal aspect of being. Out of love we do incredible things and because of love we keep on surviving.
Of course, relationships are complicated, but without them human's life would be meaningless. It should be our highest goal in life to have good relationships with one another. We as human beings must do our best to use love, compassion, gratitude and forgiveness as tools to nourish and cherish healthy relations and peace.
'When Answers The Heart', is a song about how big and generous a female heart is and can be. When a woman loves sincerely and deeply, there is always a special place in her heart there. A place where that inextinguishable candle would burn for that special one forever.

WT: What is music and singing to you?
CR: Music and singing in general is a great chance for me to share my feelings with people and do it in a beautiful way.
WT: Who are your musical influencers?

MUSIC IS PART OF MY DNA
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we introduce you to Alexis Gerred, a singer/stage performer of excellence from London, UK.
Tumblr media
WT: What made you enter the world of music, how everything started?
AG: I've always been a huge music fan - I had to be. My parents lived and breathed the music of Queen and Rod Stewart. However, due to peer pressure at school, I never expressed an interest in performing. Not even to myself. I hadn't even sung into a hairbrush as I was just too shy and afraid to be mocked. Then one night I was taken to see the musical ‘We Will Rock You’ in London, where a guy called Mig Ayesa looked and sounded so freaking cool singing the music of my Dad's Hero's as he played the lead role with such confidence. That was it... I wanted to do the same.
WT: What is music and singing to you?
AG: It's just apart of my DNA, my day-to-day makeup I feel more comfortable performing than anything else. It's an expression of emotion for me. Whatever mood I'm feeling... singing will release the tension and performing will drag me back up from the lowest of lows.
WT: Who are your musical influencers?
AG: I really appreciate singers that have powerful and immediately recognisable voices. Obviously, Freddie Mercury and Rod Stewart fall into that category. However, I'm also a huge fan of Steven Tyler, Bryan Adams, Michael Jackson, Paul Rogers... there are so many, but they all come under the same bracket of irreplaceable.
In the last few years a band called ‘The Struts’ have steamrolled over my musical taste. They really capture all the essences of my musical hero's and wrap them up in one band.
Tumblr media
WT: You have recently recorded a single, titled: 'Roads Ahead', your first international collaboration with the famous Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project - how did you connect with the song, and how did it relate to you and your life?
AG: I instantly had a connection with ‘Roads Ahead’, not just with the great melody and the energetic groove of the song, but with the lyrics as well. Singing it actually acted as a sort of therapy for me... “take the good memories, leave the rest behind, no worries” – and look to the future with hope and excitement. It's an important message, and I'm extremely grateful to have been trusted with this Mosi Dorbayani's song. 'Roads Ahead' is schaduled for Nov. 5th and I can't wait to share it with the world.
youtube
WT: Artistically, where would you like to see yourself in five year's time?
AG: I try not to worry about what the future holds as I'm too occupied with what's happening now. I tend to live somewhat chaotically with many irons in the fire but as long as I'm still performing and singing, I'll be happy and grateful. I'm currently writing another album ready for release in 2022 and if I can continue creating music that people enjoy, then that's what I shall do.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what's in the pipeline and what are your official pages?
AG: The main platform I use to communicate and promote is Instagram and you can find me at @alexisgerred. However, if you’re looking for my music, then my Spotify artist page is for you to follow:

LOVE IS BESTOWED
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we introduce you to Ms. Christa Marena, a talented singer/songwriter from Guatemala.
Tumblr media
WT: What made you enter the world of music?
CM: Since my childhoold, I've been always facinated by singing, performing, and loved to sing. I used to organize concerts with my friends at home at the age of six. When I was sixteen, I decided to study singing in a professional manner. At school, I even auditioned before the director of literature department to get a chance to perform at the Literature Festival in my home country. Of course, nobody knew I was going to perform and that even made it more exciting for me. Eventually, my performance recieved very positive reactions, and made me realize that singing was indeed my passion.
WT: What is music to you and who are your musical influencers?
CM: To me, music is a beautiful form of expression through sound. My musical influencers are: Freddy Mercury, Christina Aguilera, and Celine Dion.
WT: You have recently recorded a single, 'Rosie Shy', in collaboration with the famous Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project - how did you connect with the song and how it related it to you?
Tumblr media
CM: I'm very grateful for this collaboration, and the opportunity to voice one of Mosi's songs. The moment I was approached by WAALM, I realized that this was not only a great opportunity to establish collaboration beyond my boarders with a porlific songwriter, but also a chance to let my voice reaches out to a whole new cricle of audiences. 'Rosie Shy' is about having faith in love, a single release scheduled for Oct. 26th. 2021. This song reminds us to be grateful for the people who stay with us no matter what. To appreciate true love, not to be fussy and treasure those who are genuine. This song is in style of Country and pretty much inline with my forthcoming EP album, which I am currenlty working on. It's a nice coincidence that this song's lyrics and music matches my next project.
WT: Artistically, where would you like to see yourself in five year's time?
CM: I see myself published with at least 5 albums, and many concerts or live performances. Also I see myself as a noted vocal coach, faciliating others to reach their dreams and make it in the music industry.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activites and career, what's in the pipline and what are your official pages?
CM: My new EP which I recorded it in Nashville will be released next year. Everyone who is interested in my work can follow me on:

LOVE IN ITS PUREST FORM
In this edition, we formally introduce our new collaborating Soprano and Vocal Artist, Maria Mitich.
WT: What made you interested in performing arts and to enter the world of music?
Tumblr media
MM: I can't remember the time in my life when I was not interested in music and performing in general. Sine early childhood I wanted to be on stage and perform in some way and soon people in my surroundings recognized my vocal potential and encouraged me to start doing music. I've always wanted to play the piano but that didn't really turn out well (Very strict tutors and some lack of discipline J ) , so I turned my focus fully onto singing.
Tumblr media
WT: What is music to you? - Who are your musical inspirations, and how they influenced you?
MM: To me music is the most effective way to allow my being to vibrate with nature and the universe. It's a tool for a full self – expression. The most beautiful way to touch people and connect with them.
Maria Callas, Tori Amos, Bjork, Billie Holiday, Nick Cave, Renata Tebaldi, Luciano Pavarotti, Whitney Huston, Lisa Gerrard, Jonny Mitchell... What I find they all have in common, is the power of expression. The deep emotions and honesty one can feel in their voices and in their art. They move my soul deeply.
Tumblr media
WT: You have recently recorded your debut single, ‘Morning Dove’ in collaboration with the famous Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this projects - how did you connect to the song and relate to it?
MM: I am very happy and honored to have the opportunity to collaborate with such a big name like Mosi Dorbayani. For me, ‘Morning Dove’ is about purity and unconditional love, but not just romantic love, the spiritual one. Love in its purest form. It was very easy for me to connect with its spirituality, purity and beauty.
WT: Artistically, where would you like to see Maria Mitich in five years’ time?
MM: Well, if the world goes back to its normal course, hopefully back on stage performing both classical and pop music and sharing it with the world. Performing on stage is where I see myself all the time.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what’s next in the pipeline and what are your official pages?
MM: I am working on my operatic career and expanding it to pop / crossover. Those interested in my activities, can follow me on my official website at https://www.marijamitic.com/ and / or my instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/maria_mitich/

JAZZ & SUNSHINE
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we have Viktoria Sunshine, a singer-musician at Walt Disney company.
Tumblr media
WT: Viktoria, welcome to WAALM Tribune
VS: My pleasure.
WT: What made you to enter the world of music?
VS: From the very moment when I was a little girl about 4 years old, I had no doubt that I would be a singer. The exciting world of music and sounds was attractive to me. A feeling when you take a hair brush in your hand and imagine that this is a microphone and your room ( or better to say a bathroom) is a huge concert hall when you perform for the crowd :)  That’s the moment when you have no doubt that this is exactly what you want to do with your life, what makes you fulfilled and you are in the right place …
WT: What is music to you?
VS: Music is my self-expression. This is the way I see the world, the way I feel the world, and the way the world talks to me. I like music very much. There are people whose music constantly plays in their heads, they hear it everywhere - it is their passion. I belong to this type of people. I simply decided that what I love  most, should be my profession. And I have never regretted it.
Tumblr media
WT: What would you like to achieve with it?
VS: One day I just realized that my goal is not to strive with all my might to the future, but to get pleasure and gratefulness by being in the moment, feeling the flow and do the best that I can do now to bring joy to the listeners and create a memorable moments. If I’m able to make at least one person in a concert hall or in lounge happy, make their day a bit better with my voice, than my goal is  achieved.
WT: You recently have recorded an EP Album in collaboration with the renowned Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project and collaboration - how did you connect and relate to it.
VS: Yes, it’s a Jazz project with 4 sweet and lovely songs. This was a wonderful opportunity for me to record some of Mosi’s greatest songs in Jazz genre. It’s been an absolute pleasure to have a chance to work with such accomplished songwriter, who is multitalented beyond music and songwriting.
Tumblr media
WT: As you know we are leaving in trying times (COVID-19), in your view, how artists and songwriters should deal with it?
VS: Oh, the year of 2020 was very challenging for art and entertainment industry, for the musicians, singers, artists and tech personnel, who support this industry as well. A lot of people lost their jobs, many shows got cancelled. It was a tough year for me as well. Disney company was affected too. But one thing is for sure:  when some doors are closing, the another ones will open at the same time. It was exactly during such moments, when I got the chance to know Christelle Walker from WAALM and Mosi Dorbayani. A fortunate encounter to create something everlasting.
And of course in such trying times, we have to have faith and be patient. But also we should try to find new ways, creative ways to make living. I really hope that soon we all see each other in theatres, concert halls, lounges and stadiums again.
WT: Where would you like to see Viktoria Sunshine in five years' time?
VK: Well, this question is very easy to answer :)
I see my future-self better than I am today. I see myself as a singer and violinist having concerts and touring back again around world with great faith in myself and great gratitude for everything that I have and everything that will come my way.
WT: Viktoria, we wish you all the best and thank you for attending this.
VS: Thank you for having me.

DON’T PRETEND THEY DON’T EXIST!
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we have the soulful singer of excellence, ‘Yaya Diamond’.
Tumblr media
WT: Yaya Welcome to our 6Qs with Artists
YD: My pleasure, happy to be here.
WT: What made you want to enter the world of music?
YD: My mother is a singer, Evelyn Thomas, and I grew up watching her success. She inspired me for sure, but my husband pushed me and supported me throughout the years. WT: What is music to you?
YD: Music is the soundtrack to life. If you have ever heard a song from your youth or your wedding song, then you will understand what I mean. Listening to music from my youth reminds me of a place where I can't return physically, but mentally I am there. What would you like to achieve with it? I want it to be beautiful and meaningful. I am happy when I record in my studio and I will continue to do so. My desire is to just make great songs. WT: You have recently recorded two very meaningful message songs, 'Hopes in Chain' and 'Reflection' in collaboration with the noted Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about these projects - how did you connect and relate to them.
YD: Yes I did, and what an honor it is to be a part of these projects. These songs like connect with people like me, who have been bullied, persecuted, and belittled by no fault of their own. We are all different and that is what makes us beautiful and these songs talk about the injustice of being persecuted for being just that, different. ‘Hopes in Chain’ is a black lives matter song, and if you know about the south side of Chicago or the slums of Miami then you will know what it's like. I think people need to know that in some places these issues are prevalent while other neighborhoods have never encountered such a thing. If we can just open up and realize that the BLM movement was started because of the problematic areas of our country, neighborhoods that are predominately black, suffer from these circumstances every day all year long.
youtube
And of course ‘Reflection’ is yet another message song that asks a few very important questions - especially with regards to social media, and the role that we choose to play in the society as artists, writers, creators etc. Equally, as a media producer and a radio host, I feel it is important for all of us to ask those questions from ourselves and try to “reflect” - as the song suggests.
Tumblr media
WT: As you know we are leaving in trying times, in your view, how artists and songwriters should deal with social issues around the world?
YD: Don't pretend they don't exist. If we can speak up about these injustices we can help change them little by little. I am not saying it's going to be overnight, but we can begin to make the change and teach others about the life of the people who deal with these circumstances on a daily basis. WT: Artistically, where would you like to see Yaya Diamond in five years' time?
YD: I am working on a few things. I have my radio show Yaya Diamonds Dream Chasers Radio right now, and I would like to see that expand. I have expanded the station to FM and AM radio and am now expanding it to help other artists and creatives grow and get recognition. Music is always something I will do, and hope to continue to do more in the future, but music is not a certainty. Music is a volatile career, but I do my best to be true to the craft and keep trying to reach the masses.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what’s in the pipeline?
YD: Plenty of radio shows, music promos, motivational interviews are in progress, fans can follow them all by vising my website and social sites.

MUSIC IS A SAFE SHELTER
In this edition of WAALM Tribune, we are hosting ‘Rehn Stillnight’, a soprano from Italy.
WT: Rehn, welcome to our latest edition.
RS: My pleasure.
Tumblr media
WT:  What made you to enter the world of music amongst all other form of arts?
I've always loved singing since I was a child and I had my first bands around fifteen, but I started taking singing lessons only after I graduated in Traditional Arts. I love art in every form, and I still paint and draw when I have some spare time, but I think music touches some inner strings in a way no other form of art can do. When I listen to a song I get many emotions coming from what I hear, I can cry like a child every time I listen to a specific song due to the music or lyrics (or the combination of both) or even when I sing it. Music has been a safe shelter through some really bad times but also a good friend in happy and unforgettable moments, like my wedding.
WT: What is music to you? What would you like to achieve with it?
Music is connection. It connects us with our inner soul and also connects people around the globe. I'm now in an international project (Septum Project) which is a Power/Symphonic Metal band with members from different countries around the world and it amazes me to see how we managed to create an album without being in the same room in person, like what Mosi Dorbayani and I did with the song ‘Wisdom of Years’.
WT: Yes, on that project, you recently have recorded a message song, 'Wisdom of Years', in collaboration with the renowned Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project and collaboration - how did you connect and relate to it.
RS: I've felt like an ancient spirit, who has lived a long life on Earth, being able to see the differences between one "corner" and the other. I tried to connect to the lyrics by reading it many times and also searching for news and monitoring the current events from around the world. People are starving to death, fighting wars and living under dictatorships. If we have the ability to do something for the less lucky ones living on the same planet as us, we should try to change things.
Music has the power to reach people's heart, I hope this song will help to open our eyes to these problems.
Tumblr media
WT: In your view, how artists and songwriters should deal with social issues around the world?
RS: For what I've learned in my life, artists are normally more emotional than other people, and that leads us to care a lot about social issues. I think we all should try to do more for the people who are in worse situations than ours. We should raise our voices for the ones who can't do it, and I'm not only talking about artists but all the people in general. We may not have millions of followers, or support of commercial labels, but it doesn't matter. Everyone can make a difference. If we are lucky enough to be able to write songs, we should use this gift also to help the less lucky ones.
WT: Where would you like to see Rehn in five years’ time?
RS: I'd like to see Rehn on some big stage around the world. If I have to dream, I like to dream big, but not for the fame or the money... my dream is to see people around the world sing my songs together with me and each other, I'd love to see people record covers of my songs like I do with my favorite artists. It would be the best.
WT: For those who wish to follow your activities and career, what's in the pipeline?
Soon we'll release the EP with Septum Project which is almost ready, and my band StarWards' debut album is in the writing process. I'm also writing my first solo album while recording covers on my own or with Rehn:Fade (my acoustic nerd duo). I have many projects going on, actually! And I hope people will like what's coming in the next months.
WT: Rehn, thank you for your time attending this. We wish you all the best.
RS: Thank you for having me.
Wisdom of Years, is coming soon in Nov. 2020

A Rising Star!
In this edition, we introduce you to Fahia Buche, a singer-songwriter from Spain. She is describes as “a talented singer with superior control over the vocal melody” by noted Canadian songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani.
WT: Fahia, welcome to WAALM Tribune.
FB: My Pleasure.
WT: What made you to enter the world of music amongst all other form of arts?
FB: When I was a child, I used to listen to the radio a lot and sing along every song, so I decided to start piano lessons and join a choir. From that moment, I knew I wanted to be a performer.
WT:  What music is to you? What would you like to achieve with it?
FB: For me, music is something essential in life. It can be a great companion when you are feeling down. As a songwriter and composer, I can express how I feel and meditate through it. My main goal with music is to share this message with my listeners so they can reflect on my lyrics.
Tumblr media
WT: You recently have recorded a message song, 'Seguir Adelante'(Move on / aka Walk in Style), in collaboration with the renowned Canadian Songwriter, Mosi Dorbayani. Tell us about this project and collaboration how did you connect and relate to it.
FB: WAALM Productions connected us to collaborate and as soon as I heard the wonderful composition of Mosi Dorbayani, I was blown away by it. I loved the sensitivity and honesty put into the words and music. I recorded my vocals and hoped he would accept. Luckily he did and I am very proud that the song is finally out.
WT: This is a meaningful and message song. In your view, how artists and songwriters should deal with social issues around the world?
FB: I believe artists can express their opinion about social issues through their music. When something is not right in society, it should not go unnoticed, but rather discussed about and spread with positivity.
WT: Were would you like to see Fahia in five years time?
FB: In five years time, I would like to see myself working with great artists, touring around the world and bringing to live many more music from my solo Project and my band “Oaks & Fahia”.

A ROMANTIC RENDITION
Introducing British Emerging Soprano Star, Holly Parish:
WT: Holly, Welcome to this edition of WAALM Tribune.
HP: It is my pleasure.
Tumblr media
WT: What made you interested in music and if your family are come from any music background?
HP: My parents aren’t professional musicians, but they are both musical and can both play instruments.  They encouraged me from a young age and as soon as I had the opportunity, I started lessons for the recorder and flute.  I feel very grateful that I had family who encouraged learning music and schools that provided the opportunity to take private music lessons.
WT: On top of having a nice voice, and a stellar talent, you also play instruments and compose, what made you interested in writing and playing?
HP: Well, thank you.  Yes, as well as flute and recorder, I play the piano and a bit of guitar as well.  In comparison with performance, composing presents a different kind of challenge and throughout my musical education I was keen to improve on those skills.  I got into composing more at university where I got to hear live musicians play my work, which was amazing.  I love film music and would love to write scores for film and television.  There aren’t enough women in this sector, and I would like to see a shift in this male dominated industry.
WT: How do you envision yourself as a vocal artist?
HP: So, I am a classical vocalist first and foremost.  I continue to train in this and am working towards my diploma for performance in singing.  But I also love singing folk music, blues, musical theatre and popular music.  I love singing live as the audience really creates a magical atmosphere, but I am enjoying session singing and recording, of which I’ve done a lot in lock-down.  It’s good to know there’s still a space to perform, even if it can’t be in a concert hall.
WT: Who are your musical influencers, and what is your most favorite genre?
HP: That is a difficult question to answer, as I like to listen to most genres of music.  I love singing music from the 1940s and 50s, therefore an influencer would have to be Peggy Lee.  As I said I really love film music, so composers such as Hans Zimmer and John Williams are very influential.  I have been researching more female film composers as they are rare, and I really love the film scores by Rachel Portman.  My all-time favourite classical composer has got to be Jean Sibelius.
Tumblr media
WT: You were recently discovered by WAALM, who introduced you to Mosi Dorbayani, a renowned Canadian songwriter to collaborate on Folk-Classical single. How was your experience so far, how do you feel about it? Please tell us about the song.
HP: My experience with WAALM has been great, they have been very supportive and encouraging.  I have been in contact with Mosi who was very positive about my rendition of his wonderful song.  The song is great!  It’s sweet and romantic and the fact that it’s a folk-classical mix is perfect, as my vocals suit this style.  I have really enjoyed working on this project and I’m so thankful for the opportunity.
WT: We hear there is a possibility of shooting a music videos and award nominations as the result of this international collaboration. How important it is for you as an artist to reach out further and beyond your borders?
HP: That would be very exciting!  I think artists always have a goal to share their music with as many people as possible and we’re lucky nowadays that it’s a lot easier to do this with the help of social media and global music sites, such as Spotify.  I think as this collaboration is already international, is would be wonderful for us to reach out further to audiences worldwide.
WT: For our readers who wish to follow your artistic career, please tell us about your forthcoming events, plans, and that how they can stay connected with you.
HP: Well, due to the current situation with COVID-19, I have no live events coming up at the moment.  However, I do have a few collaboration projects that are in production and will be released soon.  I started an Instagram account specifically for my music work and I will be posting on there, whenever anything new is coming up! It’s @holly_parish_music
WT: Holly, thank you for attending this, we wish you a successful career.
HP: Thanks for having me.
