genuinely, i think watching live theatre can improve your media literacy so much
like people who look at doctor who and are like 'lol the effects are so rubbish'
maybe watch a stage play where there's no backdrops and half the characters are played by the same three guys in different hats and maybe you will calm down

The conservative ability towards selective attention is ridiculous. My right wing 2x Trump voting dad also loved Hadestown despite that musical having an entire song dedicated to laying out the logical fallacies and fear tactics behind "build the wall" rhetoric

For a campy 90s show about a man who could master any profession in a matter of weeks The Pretender sure had some wild episodes.
Season 2, Episode 8. The episode starts with a sudden on-screen suicide attempt and the anguished cries of the man's family within the first five minutes.
The A plot is clearing said man's name of liability for the deaths of his co-workers while also helping his family to forgive him while he's still in a coma.
The B plot is finding out one of the other main characters was held in a concentration camp was subject to the infamous Nazi twin experiments while he contemplates murdering the doctor who experimented on him and his brother.

hold up im reading more about the lionfish thing and this one island in Honduras has had such a huge problem with lionfish that the measures they have taken include
• getting special exemption from the Honduran government to allow divers access to harpoons and spears which are otherwise illegal in fishing
• public campaign to teach people how to prepare and eat lionfish (apparently they are very tasty once the poisonous spines are removed) (but watch out)
• holding lionfish combination hunting competition and cookout (reportedly they killed and cooked 1,700 in a day) (someone killed 60 of them with a rubber band spear gun???)
• most recently and apparently out of desperation, the divers in charge of culling the lionfish in the Roatan Marine Park just started. feeding the lionfish they killed to sharks. bc what else are you gonna do with it
• the sharks don’t seem to notice or be affected by the poison and begin hanging out with the divers
• the sharks then were seen hunting and killing the lionfish on their own
like this is nuts to me sorry. the sharks just had to be shown “hey this is food, did you know?? you can eat these!! here try one!!” we are possibly altering an entire foodchain bc we like feeding the big ocean wolves

I'll never understand the movie musicals need to scrape the heart out of the characters in favor of plot and economical run times
You really think people wouldn't watch a couple more songs that better establish Mrs. Honey and Matilda's relationship? They'd fucking love it!!
The new Matilda movie (The Musical) it's amazing, it's not better than the original because even with the same story they are really different from each other, no one it's better, they are both equally good. In here, even when I wanted to say "oh, the original made it better" the movie made something new and great that I wasn't expecting (I'm not talking about the book, yes I did read it, no I don't remember it, it was years ago.
The only thing that I didn't like was Matilda and Ms. Honey's relationship. See, in the Devito's movie Ms. Honey was really worried about Matilda, she went to her house to talk with her parents, but when she saw what type of people they were she started to take care of the child herself, and that was why Matilda trusted in her that much to show her her powers. In this movie not only Matilda spend more time with the librarian than Ms. Honey, but the librarian was the only character that actually suspected that Matilda had abusive parents and tried to talk with her, also, she was all "OMG Matilda you are so bright, your mother had to be really proud of having such an amazing daughter" which made me think that she was the one who would adopt her at the end (and merry Ms. Honey so the original ending would stay but shhhh), but Ms. Honey being her mother ending felt so... Weird? Their relationship never felt any more than "Teacher-Gifted Student" to me, maybe "Two victims finding comfort in relate to each other" but never a "Mother-Daugther" type.
