Revive a Sunnah: Take the Pre-dawn Meal as Late as Possible
Sâlim b. ‘Ubayd reports, “I used to stay in the house of Abû Bakr. One night, he prayed for as long as Allâh willed him to. He then said [to me], ‘Go and see if al-fajr has started,’ so I went, returned and said, ‘Whiteness has risen in the sky.’ So he prayed for as long as Allâh willed, then said [again], ‘Go and see if al-fajr has started.’ I went out, returned and said, ‘[The light] is spreading out and becoming reddish,’ to which he said, ‘Now bring me my drink (i.e. my pre-dawn meal, al-suhûr).’” Al-Dâraqutnî, Al-Sunan 2:166. Al-Dâraqutnî grades its chain of transmission sahîh.

The following Ebook was transcribed from a tele-lecture by ash-Shaykh Muhammad ibn Rabee’ al-Madkhalee hosted by Muwahhideen Publications on 9th August 2012 entitled, “The Virtue and Excellence of the Last Ten Nights of Ramadhaan.”
Herein, the Shaykh discusses pertinent matters related to Taraweeh, Laylatul Qadr, the last ten night of Ramadhaan in general and other salient points of benefit.
~ An excerpt taken from the Ebook ~
“Dear brothers, this is going to be the last part of this phone lecture and we really need more action than statements. From the wisdom of Allah is that He has hidden the Night of Decree from us and we do not know exactly when it is going to be in the last ten in the month of Ramadhaan. And He told His Prophet exactly when it would be and when the Prophet went out to his Companions to tell them exactly when the Night of Decree will be, he found two of the Muslims arguing with one another, asking him to judge between them so he became busy with their affair and was made to forget exactly which night is the Night of Decree in the last ten of Ramadhaan. This in itself indicates and shows us how bad it is to disagree with one another and how bad it is to fight amongst the Muslims, so much so that Allah took away the knowledge of the exact day of Laylatul Qadr in the last ten. That is one way of looking at it.”

Note
I’m going through a very difficult time at home. You can't imagine the amount of pain I’m having to go through. My parents want to disown me if I reject a marriage proposal from back home. They’re emotionally manipulating me into this- a “no” isn’t a choice. Everyone keeps reminding me how much I need to improve my family’s status. I hate all this and I’m terrified every day. Please please please keep me in your duaas because my heart is breaking. My soul is breaking.
I am really sorry to hear this. Your message really touched me. Please make dua to Allah, turn to God for guidance and please try to remain patient through this trial. We know that after hardship comes ease. I would urge you to try to confide in a Sheikh or local Imam, respected in the community, contact them and ask them to intervene in this matter respectfully. But please remain patient.

You should not look at what the person used to do, rather you should look at what kind of person they are today. The one who gets bogged down about people’s pasts, is just like Iblis (Satan) who said to Allaah, 'You created me from fire and you created him from clay.'
Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, al-Minhaaj Vol.2, p.430.

This series aims to study the Quran from a narrative point of view and in the process examine the universe that is built within its pages, that universe being the one that we all live in. It all begins with ‘Iqra’ which gives birth to two different timelines, the Universal Timeline and the Muhammadian Timeline. Tune in and find out how these two timelines merge to form a creatively unique narrative thread that is both coherent and profound.
