Don’t say the shooter’s name.
The dude who shot up two mosques in Christchurch New Zealand did so for two reasons: because he is a racist fucker, and because he wants to be a famous shooter. So don’t give him that. Don’t say his name, don’t share his face. Let him be a nameless, faceless nobody. Share the names of those he killed – remember them. But make the shooter as unknown as possible. He doesn’t deserve to have his name known.
EDIT: By this post, I don’t mean “suppress the terrorist’s name,” I mean, “Don’t make the terrorist the entire focus of this tragedy, and don’t make him infamous.”
I don’t remotely think that the identity of the terrorist should be hidden; I just think that we should refrain from making him infamous in the wake of his disgusting actions. I think that the focus should be on the victims. Who were they, tell me about them. Immortalise the names of the victims, don’t immortalise the name of the terrorist who killed them.
I don’t want to know what primary school the shooter went to or the kind of man he was prior to this or hear testimonials from his family members. I don’t want to turn on the TV and see discussion after discussion on the murderer, but see nothing on the victims. Massacres like this happen and the media makes the perpetrator infamous by making them the main focus of the tragedy, and they shouldn’t do that.
So that’s what I’m saying with this post. Not: let’s bury the identity of the terrorist (absolutely not saying that), but Let’s not make the terrorist famous by making him the focus, when we should be focusing on the victims.

This is important
Dear future humans,
Welcome to your new home, Earth
It’s a beautiful rocky planet in the star system Sol
Your existence here probably doesn’t make much sense to you and that’s okay
None of us know what’s going on but we try our best to make it work
You’re one of the most complex things this universe has manifested
You’re able to feel very intense emotions like love and sorrow
You’re able to breathe in the air that the plants produce for you
You can see beautiful pink sunsets transform one day into another
Yet no matter how amazing we are, we are also a broken species
We kill others so that we can have more, we destroy the environment that has nurtured us into life for fortune
We choose to forget our past, and have no care for tomorrow so that we can be happy in the moment
But not all is bad. Life is a beautifully short story that you are the main character of
You have gotten the rare chance to make an impact on this planet, positive or not
There is a finite amount of souls that will occupy this planet and you’re one of the lucky few
So don’t get dragged down by the negativity that surrounds our society, don’t allow machine men with machine minds control who you are
Allow yourself to learn as much as you can, choose the compassionate option to relieve some of the pain from others lives
Be a peaceful loving soul that has no room for discrimination or bigotry
Because whatever you send out to the universe, it’ll send right back
Don’t lose hope, know that I believe in you & no matter what there is a reason you’re here
