“There was a tattoo along his tricep of a head of Boston lettuce crawling with ants. From between the broad leaves came two bare human legs, and below it all was a banner that read, CORAZÓN.”

I just looked at mine to remind myself of such beauty.
Such beauty. Very squiggle.
Every time I remember I have Joseph Fink and Jeffrey Cranor’s autographs in my copy of the WTNV Novel I start to cry like I did when I first got the book because I FEEL SO UNWORTHY OF SUCH BEAUTY
I know you didn't ask for questions but I was wondering, how do you know when you've written something good enough for your podcast/where do you go to get inspiration?
i rely a lot on other people to help me determine whether or not something is publish/performance-ready. for night vale and within the wires, i have co-writers to help with writing/editing. having another person to look over your work not only helps quality, but it also helps confidence in what you’re doing. for playwriting, you really have to be collaborative. theater is not a solo endeavor. so there are lots of opportunities to run things by others, to hear words in actors’ mouths, to see how it works physically.
but the final decision on determining if something is good enough to run with really is a gut thing. if you read a lot, watch a lot, take in a lot of other art, you will get a sense of what is good, and what you like. it takes a lot of time to reach that level of self-awareness, and the feelings are never 100% (at least not for me). but if you set deadlines and make promises, you can at least ensure that you will put something out there, however imperfect (and believe me - all art is imperfect).
as far as inspirations, it varies. my tastes lean toward beautiful and complex language, so poetry has always been a big inspiration. theater as well. seeing live theater & dance helps me understand how humans interact in realistic-yet-fictional ways.
