yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad

#this gets a little more complicated when describing art #because you're the artist so the question of 'intent' is so much more layered haha #but the relevant answer is always 'anything is better than nothing' so this is a great place to start! #and as an artist if you find yourself wondering 'is this detail worth describing in the alt text?' well. was it worth you drawing? #did you incorporate it into your artwork with the intention to convey something to the viewer? #if so. may as well convey that in the alt text too! #on that note I've noticed some people copying & pasting my alt text into the text body/reblog and I haven't heard of any benefits to that? #it isn't something I've seen ANY accessibility advocates actually asking for people to do so I'm not sure it's necessary #it's just going to end up doubling the alt text for most people with screen readers and at worst it makes the alt text a more visible targe #-for detractors/bullies (yes people try and bully others over having alt text/how detailed your alt text is. l o l) #and for the love of god. don't use the alt text field for anything that isn't an actual image description #it is not your lemon-juice-over-a-warmed-lightbulb-invisible-ink secret space for hidden notes. it is an accessibility feature #if you wouldn't park in a disabled parking space you didn't need then don't gunk up your alt text with stuff that isn't an image descriptio

do you sell merch / prints of your work at all? and related, do you attend any conventions? Supanova was recently held in Melbourne and I was really hoping for One Piece art but there wasn't much :,((

I had an online store for a while but it was hard to restock everything during lockdowns, and I've been meaning to restock it & open it back up again but haven't gotten around to it! I'll be sure to post about it here when I do, so keep your eyes peeled!

I used to do local cons (only within South Australia) but didn't have time to do it the last couple of years. I'm planning on getting back into it next year though and maybe traveling interstate for some of the bigger cons, which would be exciting! You would be in luck because I usually just make prints of art I've already finished, which means my table is like 90% One Piece, LOL. It's always so much fun because the One Piece fans get excited since, you're right, there isn't as much OP art at Artist Alleys these days! So I always have some fun conversations and see some cool cosplay.

I was thinking of expanding my repertoire next year, though, so if any of you have series you'd like to see me make prints/merch for, you can let me know in the replies here. :-)

Can I take a wild swing at your Childhood friends AU?

I've had a few people reach out and ask if they can write stuff about that AU (or just straight up say they're going to take it without asking, haha..) so I'm gonna answer this one publicly as a blanket answer that's basically "yes"!

I don't own the concept of a childhood friends AU and I'm sure I'm not the first person to think about Usopp & Sanji meeting when they were young, so already I don't feel right telling people they can't take inspo from my AU. And also, I'd love to read more people's takes and interpretations on this AU and sanuso in general!

Sometimes I can be precious about my concepts in case I'd like to work them into my own comics/stories but I think this one is fair game! If you take direct inspiration from my work in your fic then I would appreciate credit/a link back, but like I said, I can't really claim ownership over such a broad concept.

Let me know if you publish it though so I can read it!

#SanUso #in general I am usually happy for people to write fic based on/inspired by my work but I do appreciate being asked #I know I don't own these characters etc but it does frustrate me sometimes to see writers- #-treat other fan works as free real estate up for grabs instead of an already-existing narrative exploration in its own right #we all take inspiration from each other so the line can be hard to draw but sometimes I feel like I'm not even seen- #-as a human being or as a fellow creator but just as a random prompt generator for their personal use #and that people are doing me a favour by Elevating my simple pictures to the written word haha #but if you don't do that we're all good!
