everything u need to know about me can actually be explained by the fact that i read that poem about the serving girl wearing the pearls so they're warm for her mistress when i was like 11 and it rewrote my brain chemistry forever

“Is it your reputation that’s bothering you? But look at how soon we’re all forgotten. The abyss of endless time that swallows it all. The emptiness of all those applauding hands. The people who praise us — how capricious they are, how arbitrary.”
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (4.3)

Neil, I'm really enjoying your Bard lectures! It's magical to hear you talk shop, and it really energizing me to write more. Thank you for doing them.
I'm really glad you're enjoying them. I have to deliver the last of them in a few hours, and I'm not sure what I want to say, so I'm stopping and answering a few ask box questions before diving back into the notes.
Wish me luck.

I went to a library exhibit for Virginia Woolf today where I got to see many of her original manuscripts and it was very special to me. Woolf is one of my favorite authors and it was just a very surreal moment to be able to experience. It's strange how writing has a way of breathing life back into history and can still affect you, letting centuries slip away like seasons until the years cycle around again and there you are. Maybe feeling the same things and thinking those same thoughts that were thought back when those words were scrolled down. So close yet so far.
