The arrest followed days of intense media coverage of the fracas at the hotel and demands by the teen's family and activists that she face criminal charges.
Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Ponsetto after spotting her driving near her home in Piru, northwest of Los Angeles, said department Capt. Eric Buschow.
She drove two blocks before stopping her vehicle, then refused to get out of the car, Buschow said.
“She tried to slam the door on one of the deputies and that’s when they just reached in and forcibly removed her,” he said, adding that the sheriff’s office would ask county prosecutors to charge her with resisting arrest.

In her retelling of the events to CNN, the woman said that she was the one assaulted in the hotel’s lobby. She reportedly agreed to provide evidence that might confirm her assault allegation but then stopped responding to the news outlet’s phone calls and text messages. The New York Police Department on Tuesday said that after reviewing video of the incident, it plans to bring charges against the woman. Those charges may include assault, grand larceny or attempted robbery.

An NYPD spokesperson later told NBC New York that the department has identified the woman but at the time had not yet interviewed her. Though Harrold and others have suggested that the incident involved racial profiling, the spokesperson said police are not investigating it as a bias attack.
If anyone catches this racist woman’s name, please do let me know so I can tag her.  Thank you.

A white former police officer has been charged with falsely reporting a gunfight with a group of Black youths at his lakeside camp in the Adirondacks while he was off duty last summer, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday. Sean McKown was arraigned last week on four misdemeanor charges, including falsely reporting an incident and illegally discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, District Attorney Kristy Sprague said in a news release. “The charges filed stem from allegedly false reports of an incident (which did not occur) that were allegedly made to 911 by Sean McKown,” Sprague said in a statement.
McKown was allowed to retire from the Cohoes police force rather than face disciplinary measures after the episode in June that followed a night of drinking. McKown initially told state police he had been confronted by eight to 10 Black youths outside his camp and had exchanged gunfire. The Albany Times Union reported that McKown acknowledged his story about being shot at was a lie.

One of their family members commented on the now-defunct Facebook status that no one in the family identifies as Black. You can find CV’s apology here.

If three cases swirled around social media feeds over five years, what’s to say there aren’t dozens more? The case of Dr. Kelly Kean Sharp, an academic activist, broke as I was writing the final paragraphs about the first two. Common to these scams is a willful displacement of Black people in positions of visibility, influence, and power.
NB: Dr. Kelly Kean Sharp self identified, falsely, as “Chicana”.

Here is what happened: On November 8, Browning tweeted, “What Trump built in 4 years, Biden will destroy in 4 months” — a standard sentiment percolating on the MAGA internet right now. On Tuesday, November 10, when another user argued that, actually, it was Obama who built what Trump takes credit for, Browning came back with a retort. “I’m a black gay guy and I can personally say that Obama did nothing for me, my life only changed a little bit and it was for the worse,” he wrote. “Everything is so much better under Trump though. I feel respected — which I never do when democrats are involved.”

“A white woman in Manhattan who falsely claimed a Black man was threatening her in Central Park made a second 911 call and lied that he “tried to assault” her, a prosecutor alleged on Wednesday.
Amy Cooper, appearing in court for an arraignment on a misdemeanor charge of falsely reporting an incident, made two 911 calls about the May confrontation, including one that previously hadn’t been reported, Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi said in Manhattan criminal court.
Cooper was widely scorned after she was caught on video telling Christian Cooper (no relation) that she would call the cops after he asked her to leash her dog in the park. Christian Cooper was bird-watching at the time.
“I’m going to tell them there’s an African American man threatening my life,” Cooper threatened in the video before she called 911. Once on the phone, she falsely claimed she was being threatened....”

Investigators discovered that Bebber, Smith and the Milligan brothers were buying run-down rowhouses in impoverished neighborhoods, evicting tenants, increasing insurance coverage and then setting the homes on fire, court records show. As part of the plan, the four men, who are white, tried to blame the blazes on their tenants, most of whom were African-American, court records show. The men told investigators that the fires had been set by their tenants in retaliation for their evictions.
