A tribute to those gone before. 'Nightlights' prompt response for Kytte's Celestial Echoes event on Anathema, and me trying to figure out how to draw in CSP compared to my more familiar SAI. Learning curve + artblock is tough, for sure.

Collaborative piece done with the absolutely godly Kytte (who very obviously did the stunning background while I tried to live up to that high bar with the figures) for the Pyre of the North hunt on Anathema! Brynn and Wanderer fuck around and wonder what you do about a giant skeleton on fire when your respective fighting strategies are 'stab' and 'bite, probably'.

A scribbleswap piece for Kina@Anathema! Her lovely Crystal, whose design I'd liked ever since I first saw it. She's got this lovely gauze veil that I couldn't for the life of me figure out to show without covering up the rest of the detail, but doing it in a more stylized way made for a nice background element at least.

A couple more critters for Ivras! Not quite the usual formatting with description attached, since the layout didn't facilitate it as well this time around. Full descriptions can always be found on Anathema's toyhouse page though! It continues to be an interesting exercise making sure that things aren't too out there for a low magic setting; kind of nice at the same time though, since it gives me a good excuse to go and look at a lot of animals I wouldn't normally be drawing. Nice to build up my mental library.

I can't begin to say how happy I am with this commission; you do such an incredible job matching that clean, elegant Fire Emblem pixel style that I always enjoyed so much playing those old GBA titles, and seeing Darius like this is a dream. Aaaaand one more little addition; pards are an old concept from the middle ages and hell yeah I'm pulling wierd heraldic lion-leopard things in here! Needed a reference for a story I've got coming up.

The bestiary expands! More critters to play with while I write/draw Wanderer's adventures in Anathema. Nothing too wildly out there, but Ivras isn't really out there as a setting so I want to stick to stuff that's pretty plausible and doesn't rely on a huge injection of fantasy biology. It's kind of fun working parallel on Anathema stuff and Mirn stuff (which I still periodically add to, though mostly behind the scenes). I definitely design for the two with different sensibilities.

Took a hard turn into creatures this year by joining Anathema, and it's been a lovely excuse to work on learning creature anatomy (but I'm sure my humans are suffering accordingly... oh, the eternal struggle). As always I angst about my total lack of improvement curve, but frankly the majority of what I've drawn this year has been illustrations and I feel ambitious again, so that's good enough for me-- here's to 2024!

I am the soul in many skins.

The monthly prompt was sort of Halloween-masquerade theme, and even though Wanderer is currently off being a hobo somewhere and has no reason to actually have a nice mask, I wanted to draw something a little more fancy. Changing my mind about fifty times in the process (wanted a wolf mask since he'll be getting more and more shapeshifter-y as we go, wanted the red ribbons as a nod to his connection to the Reaper in his own canon, was messing around with colors since a black mask on a black deer wouldn't read as clearly as a mask...), but I'm happy with the end result! Cirrus also has a costume and is very pleased with it.
