This fake yarn is supposedly better for sheep.
Aimed at people who don’t know where wool comes from, it’s 100% plastic. Yes, plastic.
So any garment you wash will release microfibres into the sea. It’ll never decompose.
You’re supposed to believe that sheep shearing is violent and cruel. There are imbeciles out there that work in an unprofessional manner while shearing, but that’s not the case overall.
Sheep don’t suffer from having their fleece removed.
Left on, the fleece can become a home for fly eggs and the subsequent maggots which can eat the sheep. Chemical treatments are available to prevent that happening. It’s much better for the sheep, the land and the farmer to avoid chemical use.
Don’t be fooled. Wool is a sustainable material, one we should make more and better use of.

Wild that folks keep saying beekeepers abuse bees as if bees are not both venomous flying animals and fully unionized

As much as I want to support ethical farming practices I will be buying the cheapest bag of frozen chicken thighs as much as the next frugal/poor person which is why animal welfare needs to be legislated, not left up to the invisible hand of the free market or some bullshit. Invisible hand of the free market finds itself around a lot of throats.

This changed my life honestly
I think it's so important to have a "nature" calendar in your head, like a way of tracking time that's completely separate from anything work or obligation related, not holidays or anything stressful. For instance I look forward to august because at 8pm every night house finches hang around my window for a few weeks. In spring I love waiting for the magnolias to blossom. Just ways of tracking the time with zero stakes that's completely removed from life's zeitgeist and that you really look forward to

This is the best thing I've ever read
Wildflower meadows are beautiful; so beautiful in fact that a village in Britain has found they act as natural speed traps from motorists slowing down to look at them.
The village of Long Newnton in Gloucestershire has a problem with fast moving through-traffic between nearby towns. Almost all drivers moving through areas they frequent will break posted speed limits, and neither a 30 mile per hour limit, nor warning signs made any difference.
Officials first planted flowers along the roadside during the pandemic to help improve biodiversity.
But they noticed that as well as attracting more wildlife, motorists also slowed down when they passed the flowers.

I am a steadfast supporter of socialized medical care, but man are we ever doing something wrong in Quebec
My friend waited in the ER for 16 hours with a fractured vertebrae before she even got seen
My step-dad with a severe hear condition couldn't get a blood test (which was ordered by his cardiologist as part of the investigation of why his pulse was in the 30's) for two months because they're done by appointment only and there was no earlier openings
I'm on the waiting list for a gyno and was told it'll be at least a year until I can make an appointment, and another six months until I actually see a doctor, despite the fact that I'm bleeding continuously and can barely function
My mentor found out he has late-stage throat cancer following years of pain. It turns out no one actually looked at the MRI he had three years ago to diagnose the problem. He was just told that no news was good news, and now he's fighting for his life
Like, healthcare should absolutely be free. And we shouldn't be dying while waiting for it
Why is that too much to ask?

honestly that “it costs 0 dollars to be kind” bullshit is bullshit. it does cost things to be kind. it costs time. it costs energy. and it isn’t always easy and it isn’t always natural. it costs so much to be kind, sometimes. but that’s the whole point. if being kind were easy, or simple, every single person would be an angel. but they’re not, and the world isn’t easy and simple. so no, it does cost something to be kind. but it’s worth it anyway.
