thoughts on an indirect kiss!

man, what a truly amazing episode.  i’m pretty surprised that so many questions i had…got answered??

i was wondering for so long about how steven felt about his mother (without other’s viewpoints affecting his opinion) and it was acknowledged very satisfyingly.

so, pearl had a very close relationship with rose, moreso than anyone else (or she’s just more vocal about it) and i feel like it kinda rubbed off on steven.

for example, in lars in the cool kids he told off lars for insulting rose even though he didn’t have any strong feelings towards her, and i think it’s because she meant so much to people that were important to him.

it really makes me wonder how rose actually was, the show seems to be presenting a fairly neutral perspective like “maybe she was epic, maybe she wasn’t. all we know is that everyone rlly likes her.”

despite this, now i have a new question that will keep me up at night until it’s answered: what would’ve happened had amethyst’s gem split fully in two? would her physical form just disappear, or would she become a glitchy mess? and, if the former, would it be like being dead?

i have a feeling that these questions will be answered later on, and i don’t know how to feel about it.

also, this is like…the third episode in a row where a beloved character is on their deathbed but im honestly just glad that amethyst isn’t freakin dead *cough cough* centipeedle and many, many stevens *cough* 

also also WHEN WILL GARNET GET ANOTHER EPISODE, it’s been 13 episodes pls stop abandoning her show

now, for the elephant in the room…the sheer amount of time it took me to liveblog this episode.

it takes a lot for me to admit this, but the reason why it took so long isn’t justifiable.

at all.

hobbies that i only just began to cultivate when i started liveblogging became bigger, more prominent parts of my life. every night before i went to bed, i’d tell myself, “tomorrow, you’ll liveblog. you’ll make people really happy.” and then, every day when i got up in the morning, i’d simply say “i’ll do it in a few hours, i’ll just do ____ first.” rinse and repeat

it’s not that i didn’t care about or enjoy lbing, while i was doing it, i had a blast! my issues mostly lay in mixed up priorities and the dreaded procrastination.

i almost feel as though i was a more productive liveblogger during the school year, as i just had more pressure put on me to do things.

a few people unfollowed me during this stretch, and i don’t blame them. before i started liveblogging, i would’ve found the idea of taking a whole month to talk about a 10 minute episode preposterous. suffice to say, i would’ve gotten fed up with me long ago.

but, to those of you that have stuck around, you deserve better. 

so, i’ll try to give you better.

i specify ‘try’ because 1. i don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, and 2. it might be a bit difficult for me to get back into the swing of things, but i will try.

even if it takes a while, please just know that i’ll be putting a little more effort into helping this blog flourish every day.

well, that’s a visual metaphor if i’ve ever seen one. she popped out the rose colored lenses, but kept wearing the glasses themselves

perhaps it means that being physically changed by gem powers has changed her perspective on where she stands in relation to the cgs (before she was just vibin with steeb sometimes, maybe now she’ll regularly embark on missions?) but still wants to remain an outsider

or it could be a more ‘true to the saying’ meaning where her outlook on life becomes more cynical, but that doesn’t really make sense considering the situation so idk about that theory not to mention that afterwards, it just..cuts to black. considering that the next two episodes are the season 1a finale, i have a feeling that things are about to get real.

it’s cool that connie is having a realistic reaction to suddenly and accidentally having your eyesight fixed by your magical anime friend

meanwhile, steven’s so genuinely psyched that he can heal people, albeit in a unconventional way, that he doesn’t realize that this is a truly life-changing event for connie

the ‘indirect kiss’ actually had plot significance? that’s epic, even if transferring spit via juice box sharing is pretty gross conceptually.

idk how this is going to go over with connie though, i doubt her parents would just be like ‘hey my child is suddenly not wearing the glasses that were prescribed specifically for her and is having zero problems seeing stuff, yeah this is totally normal’

speaking of her parents, i do wonder what they’re like, hopefully we’ll meet them in a future episode

this is the best thing that connie could’ve possibly told steven at this moment

she can’t remind him of his other powers/strengths, because he’s stuck on “i’ve let down everyone i know, even people that aren’t alive because i can’t cry healing tears” 

so instead, connie reminds him that people do love him unconditionally and pretty much says “hey, let’s stay in the moment, i’ll hang out with you no matter what ^_^”

Is everything ok? You’ve been posting this episode very oddly, only a couple shots at a time, with days in between. Your comments make it sound like you are watching in one session, so I’m not sure if its you or a tumbler issue.

the terrible posting schedule is my bad, but i’ll elaborate on that more in the thoughts post.

the ‘watching in one session’ comments (or lack of them) actually are intentional, i think that talking about the gaps in the middle of a liveblog wouldn’t make much sense/would be annoying to people that are checking them out after i finished it

well, that theory got killed off quickly, as did steven’s confidence in his abilities

i do think that pearl and garnet deserve to be proud of themselves, they literally saved amethyst’s life, however i don’t think they realize how much proving himself is important to steven

this makes me wonder if being more sensitive to other’s feelings will be a major character arc for the cg’s, and steven will learn to value the emotional strengths that he brings to the team

ight, i got a theory. so, rose not only healed with her own tears, but could also activate the fountain through her emotions? (in case she couldn’t force herself to cry in an emergency) and steven didn’t inherit the healing tears, but could activate the fountain

it wasn’t rose or her sanctuary that made steven cry, it was the impending death of someone he actually knows and cares about. man this is powerful, hopefully it works

well, that sucks

considering that his powers don’t always work as expected, it’s not too surprising that he doesn’t share rose’s healing tears (though maybe he inherited other healing powers? idk we haven’t gotten an extensive list of all of rose’s powers)

that’s a slight under-reaction to realizing that your sis is going to die and there’s nothing you can do to save her

it makes a lot of sense though, he’s much more focused on his failure than amethyst’s impending death (justifiably, everything was kinda hinging on it) and ‘oh come on’ is a exclamation he uses a lot in general
