The first quest in the game is defending Goodsprings from the fallout of the NCR's usage of slave labor. From there the NCRCF metaphorically looms over the region until you get to Nipton, being connected to quests the entire time. The culmination of this plot, which can be reasonably done blind on your first playthrough, is to either solidify a regional warlords power or restore the NCR's slave camp by putting down a slave rebellion.

Even if the immediate note of 'yes the NCR is a slaver empire' isn't intentional, and you're supposed to go "oh they're prisoners? Let's kill em!" the plot is still "the NCRCF was dangerously reckless leading to multiple towns getting overrun or destroyed and the NCR military won't raise a finger unless to annex primm or reclaim the NCRCF".

may i ask whats wrong with the ncr? i havent seen a full playthrough, but in general they seem to be the best bet

rebuilding america will lead to the same problems. explicitly they have Made America Homophobic Again but you could make an argument from context that they've regressed on misogyny and race since Tandi.... who ruled for her whole life, which isnt how this is Supposed to work.

the prima guide has an extended explanation of how the ncr's culture changed when the scavenging dried up. people in the core of the empire work demeaning wage labor, while the military conquers surrounding territory to sustain their unsustainable lifestyle. when you get to NCR in fo2 and it's a modern suburb, it's supposed to feel dark

there's a lot of little articulation points like, if you do an NCR run + assemble the Enclave Remnants, which might feel like a "good completionist run" to some, the consequence is that arcade dies in prison

idk if youre aware of yes-man, but even mr house would probably be better for the wasteland. the game may not Tell you the ncr will fail like the legion but i'm pretty sure that's the implication, especially as of lonesome road

to be fair, outside of the Followers, there's not an existing faction that's really more optimistic and promising than the NCR, but they're supposed to demonstrate that an empire doesn't have to be the Legion to represent a massive force of decay and cultural violence, it just has to be an empire

"but but but you can romance same sex companions!" Fallout New Vegas went out of its way to add a lesbian perk after Fallout 3 added a perk to specifically make you straight. Fallout 4 removed the perk and gave you the choice between an exact image the words "drug addict" gives to a Republican voter, your literal granddaughter, and Piper. That's it. That's what you get in exchange for actually being able to be a lesbian-- bisexuality with your granddaughter at best.

fo4 is the worst game because before you can even customize your character you're stuck as a heterosexual

new vegas is the best game because it has a perk that literally canonically makes you a lesbian
