Basic sketching tips

I just started drawing with a tablet and I have two questions: what colour/ brush do you use for lines? I always use black and a normal pencil but I noticed yours look kinda brown and seem to vary in their thickness? Also, how do you manage to have that kind of pastel-like colour to your pictures? I absolutely love the tone of your drawings it's beautiful cream tones I hope you know what I mean. Mine always turn out so intense colour-wise I hate it. Thank you so much for your time! I admire you!

here are my brushes: i use the first one for illustrations (it’s smoother but takes longer), while the second for comics (fast and rough). as for the colours, i mostly just stick to slightly desaturated ones (the left half of the colour square above). thank you!!
