oh man. that vid. as usual I am unwell about everyone yunmeng affiliated. And I have always enjoyed Zhancheng, and been a hatesex enthusiast. this changed me. I'm breaking out a conspiracy board. I went back to episode 47 to see if Lan Wangji really looked at him like that right after he got stabbed and
Silent All These Years, by sisabet (Jiang Cheng-centric)
This vid focuses on JC holding it together during WWXâs absence, the sacrifice that JC made, and in some ways, the love he lost.
If, like me, you grew up with the song this vid is set to, youâre used to applying Tori Amosâs âSilent All These Yearsâ to different situations, despite the very specific lyrics. The song is about the suffocation of holding your feelings inside and the dream that you are in fact magically stronger than that and can one day be heard (and the knowledge you also aren't because mermaids can't wear jeans). Obviously universal feelings, right? Obviously applies to everyone right? NEVER MIND!!! IT WAS NOT OBVIOUS TO ME!!! WHO KNEW THAT THIS COULD BE JCâS ANTHEM; I CERTAINLY DID NOT. Just, the way that sisabet made this song apply to JC is mind-blowing.
A lot of vids use music with a clear message to illustrate a message that is also clearly in the text. Eg, the song is âI love youâ and all the images are LWJ looking at WWX. This is a fine way to vid! And a vidder in that school of vidding would probably look at âSilent All These Yearsâ and think about how quiet LWJ is and make a vid about LWJâs years of silent pining, then mourning. But other vidders take a text, then take a song, and say, âHow do I make these media comment on one another?" Thatâs what this vid does. Itâs a rare vid that does it successfully (without being too opaque for my brain) and this one is a treasure among them.
Note, please, who got âsaved by the garbage truckâ and who is the garbage truck
Note, please, who is âthe girl who thinks really deep thoughtsâ
THEN think about what the âjeans of your with her name still on itâ are and honestly youâll be living in a Jiang Cheng Tori Amos renaissance and also you might be tempted to go find all the LWJ/JC hate!fucking and grief!fucking you can find. Though you might just sit there and cry about JC like you do every damn day.
you know how every time you watch titanic (1997 dir james cameron) and they first see the iceberg you hope every time that they won't hit it even though you know it will? that's me with claudia's death
Fortnight. I felt absolutely nothing for this the first time I heard it but it's a slow burn. I cannot recommend listening to it the four or five times it took to really hit for me, but I love you and it's ruining my life did get stuck in my head on a loop.
The Bolter. I think this one suffers from overwriting but honestly I am a sucker for a good story about emotionally unavailable women making predictable choices
Florida!!! I had fun with this one but it doesn't really stick with me. I do enjoy yelling floRIDAAA though.
So Long, London. imo this is just a solid breakup song. I feel for the singer, who is conveying the specifics of her grief in terms relatable enough for me to project onto it. It does suck when someone who used to make your day by walking into the room is increasingly emotionally unavailable in lieu of pulling the trigger themselves and you have to do it for them.
I Can do it with a Broken Heart. A bop! I think this one will stand the test of time and stick around in the same lowkey way Bruno Mars' lazy song did because it's good to have a song for spackling manic cheerfulness over the void in much the same way it is good to have a song for being a wastrel.
Anyway all this to say I think Taylor Swift should do a Henry the Eighth themed music video where she casts herself as Henry and actors who are obviously meant to represent her exes as his assorted wives and mistresses and just go to town on depictions of herself feasting and jousting and fighting with the Pope.
Back when I was reccing vids I was saving the best for last and then lost steam. Just know that this vid is just as funny yet also as poignant as the original song from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Even if you know nothing about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, it's a great vid. And even if you know nothing about The Untamed--well, I feel a little sad you don't get to have that in your life but I guess it's not for some? Seems fake but okay
The knowledge that Michael Sheen is once again doing theatre on the other side of the world torments me. At least the play isn't supposed to be very good.
Are you watching shogun! Iâm really enjoying it so far
Yes! It's so gorgeous I spent the first three episodes mostly just admiring the sets and costumes, but episode four came in with a roundhouse kick of Mariko and Fuji feelings and it didn't let up from there. Surprise childhood bffs separated by politics and murder! I also did not expect the brothel supblot to be so moving or enjoy the priest so much. Just a great cast and some lovely camera work.
Disaster Master- Can I go off the path, find a breeze/Start with nothing, start a garden/her ghost and me
Godzilla(the wangxian of it all) For what it's worth, when I'm drunk on wine/And my nose is bleeding and I'm tired/With no one to call and no neon sign/You're rooting for me even when I'm not right
Seabed- Well, you just laugh it off/And you caught me off guard, and/I was never lonely/But now I'm feeling like an only child
Let me sink into you arms/You're the ocean floor/I guess I just needed that/I guess I just needed that
I miss Of Monsters and Men and I need them to come back.
