‘don’t you want your favourite character to be happy???’ no? i want my favourite character to be interesting. i want me to be happy. which sometimes involves my favourite character being in exquisite agony
having internet friends is the same as having irl friends but backwards. when you first meet someone irl the first thing you see is your face, and the first thing you learn is their name. maybe you ask where they’re from, what their family is like, what they like to do in their free time. you have to figure out if you want to be friends. but if you make friends over the internet, you already have a shared interest. you might learn each other’s routines, timezones, different habits. but learning their real name is a big deal. face reveals are an even bigger deal. the things you usually first learn about someone are some of the last things you learn about someone you meet online. you’re making friends, but backwards.
I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but why the fuck are the nz drunk driving ads so fucking brutal???? Like I saw one last week, but I still sat there in silence just contemplating whether I should ever get in a car again. I supposed that means it effective but like seriously-
you know what is one of my favourite details about spiderverse? the fact that the small bits of romantic tension between gwen and miles absolutely takes a backseat to developing their friendship.
like, in the beginning, they have the classic "trying to make a move goes horribly wrong" trope, miles brags about gwen to his uncle aaron, plus the fact that they're about that age where everyone is acutely aware that boy + girl is supposed to = romance, and you can hear it in their dialogue - it's all there, we know it's there, but then
1) miles is bitten and subsequently thrown into the superhero world, making him even more ostracised than he already felt at his new school, and
2) it's established that gwen is still grieving for her universe's peter and is completely isolated because of it
like, if in the later movies they decide to take them in the direction of a romantic relationship, it absolutely won't feel out of nowhere, but into the spiderverse at least takes a look at the emotional place these two kids are in and says, "you know what, what you both need right now is a friend."
