— Bright —

The sun was shining brighter than it had any right to. It warned the grasses not yet parched of the scorching summer ahead. As if the memory of its heat wasn’t burned into every speck of soil throughout the prairies.

— Light —

First light had come but it couldn’t compare to how bright and vibrant his eyes were under the neon blue. Gray tendrils seeped up as Arthur trailed down, kissing his fingers, his palm, then his wrist. The cigarette fell away.

— Glow —

Out of the corner of his eye, Blackwater almost passed for pretty with its lonely streets and countless buildings gilded by a hazy golden glow. Too bad the lights marred the night sky.

— Shine —

The sun peeked through, shining sporadic spotlights on Arthur as he jumped from one roof to another. His eyes kept straying to the streets below in search of John.

Time to switch gears from the usual, yes? Here is from my WIP (definitely still in progress) Jo Gar fanfic (I decided to add the last line because it is relevant):

Once out of the building and onto Escolta, Jo took a calesa that would take him inside of Binondo. While in the vehicle, he began formulating questions he would ask, search for streets to walk to ponder and investigate. Miguel Chua was being searched both by his boss and his family and it would have been difficult to find out who to tell any discovery first if he did accept both. But the choice was not difficult to make, for Adalberto Chua had the decency to show him how his brother looked like unlike his most recent boss. Jo Gar closed his eyes as the calesa wheels rattled to Calle Salazar, to the diner where the missing mestizo and his friend used to eat dinners, but he was not sleeping. His mind was awake. And he knew one thing: The game is on.

Detroit doesn’t want a new man. He wants Vex, and maybe that’s the only answer he really needed. “Thanks for the advice,” he says, still a little perplexed by this whole ordeal, but he has come to expect no less from Devi.

“Mm. Anytime. It is what. I am here for. After all.” She tips a non-existent hat and attempts a wink that results in her eye twitching on a repetitive loop until she smacks it with her palm. “Will you be. Buying a metal detector? I have. Discount coupons.”

He wants to ask where she could possibly have a coupon for, but dismisses the question and says, “No, but I’ll let you know if I change my mind.”

1. What’s something that was horrible in the moment but in hindsight is hilarious?

2. Do you get often lost in thought? Where does your mind go? How do you focus?

3. Who do you worry about the most?

Up to being questioned are the mc and their adopted family of A Feather in the Forest

(Warning: These questions are being answered by the characters between the prologue and the main story. Light to mild spoilers ahead!)

1. What’s something that was horrible in the moment, but in hindsight is hilarious?

Fen: I tried to show off to Playa one time. Tried to leap across some rocks in the stream. Ended up getting wet.

Sorrel: I tried to impress some of my peers by doing a few cartwheels. Didn’t realize the ground was wet until I slipped and fell face first into the mud.

Caine: Stole some hot chilis from the healer. Said I could eat them all and not throw up. I was wrong.

2. Do you often get lost in thought? Where does your mind go? How do you focus?

Fen: I sometimes get lost in thought. My mind wanders all over the place when it does. To get out of it, I try to think of one specific thing or person.

Sorrel: Getting lost in thought is something that happens occasionally. My mind honestly goes here, there, and everywhere. I find focusing on a single thought clears my mind eventually.

Caine: I’ve found myself getting lost in thoughts more often these days. My mind can go to some really dark places. It’s difficult for me to clear out the clutter, if I’m being honest with you.

3. Who do you worry about the most?

Fen: My mother. All anyone tells me is that there is some sort of sickness got into her blood. Her condition has gone downhill.

Sorrel: I worry about both Fen and Caine. They’re clearly are affected by my deteriorating condition. Don’t know if they will be able to cope, especially Fen.

Caine: Sorrel. The sickness is in her blood. It’s gone too far for any of our healing arts to do anything. Only Al-Gia can save her now.

Luther’s fingers twitched for a cigarette. How many years had it been since he quit, if he quit? Bell had seen the bottom outline of what might have been a patch on the other agent’s arm.  The outline still showed beneath the thinner fabric of a summer shirt. His own father had quit when Bell was twenty-four and wore the nicotine patches till he’d died two years ago. No way to know with some people. Addiction was funny like that.
