OFNA: Birds of a Feather, the interactive fiction WIP

Chapter 7 added to demo! | August 9th, 2022

The first draft of chapter 7 is now playable! I know it's already a couple of days late, but there's still quite a bit of branching and small changes in this chapter that I haven't had time to test yet. So please send any bugs you find and I'll do a patch in about a week or so when I've had more time to go over everything

Additional 17k words for a new total word count of 99k (~43k per playthrough)

Firstly, let me say hello everybody! Both to everybody who has been here since the beginning and the amazing new people who have decided to follow this game and blog since our little hiatus. ❤️

I just wanted to put out this announcement to say that yes, we are both alive, and yes, we are still committed to the game and it's not died off. Thank you to everybody for their patience and love and sticking around while I (tori) have been Going Through It. I realise I have taken a long break, but its honestly so heart warming to see people have stuck around despite that.

But enough of that!

Some good news! I have given myself a schedule and plan to finish Chapter One and the interlude (perhaps with the beginning of Chapter Two in there as well as parts of that have already been written, but that's not my priority) by the end of September.

This means that, giving Megan enough time to code and a beta read after it's polished, I am setting a tentative release date of the 16th of October.

Thank you all so much again for sticking with us and this story. Much love to you all and see you next time 💕

Reckless intrepid journalist MC is SO fun to play! <3 Giving off "I think I did okay! [EXPLOSION IN THE DISTANCE]" vibes because they definitely broke some rules trying to get information. Nothing that would compromise their journalistic work, but still make them the enemy of some people.

You'll get even more options to play as reckless MC in the demo so I hope you have fun with that Anon! The reckless options are fun to write too ngl. Also I love writing sarcastic!MC. I've been having a lot of fun with sarcastic!MC and W. Have an excerpt of one interaction because it was fun to write :)

"I guess I'm a bit desensitized to it all," $he says, almost shyly. $he averts $his gaze from yours, eyes scanning the parking lot around you instead. "I haven't spoken to another person for this long in… months. Sorry if I'm a bit out of practise."

"Ah, don't worry about it," you say, your lips twitching. "I encounter plenty of weirdos and recluses in my line of work. You wouldn't believe how much of my time is taken up by looking at corpses." You scratch your nose, only now realising how disturbed you must sound. "Because I'm an investigative journalist. Not because I'm a serial killer or something."

Willow/Wyatt blinks.

"Which is exactly what a serial killer would say. Um, where was I going with this?" you ask nobody in particular, feeling as if your face could explode from the heat it's emitting. "Right. That I don't mind if you're socially inept. Like I'm currently proving right now." You drag a hand across your face, thankful for the cool night air that wafts across your heated cheeks. "Please stop me at any point."

When you peek out from between your hand on your face, you see that Willow/Wyatt wears an amused smile, $his arms folded across $his chest. "Feel free to keep rambling. You make me seem normal."

The guilt in wanting to be with someone but knowing or fearing you will never love them enough so it’s all you can do but hope they will make up enough love for both of you (and it won’t). Both parties afraid of how much they love one another to the point they will never ask if it is or is not love that consumes them, just knowing one will happily have it consume them and the other is trying to bat it off like flies. The awful realization that this person will never love you. The awful realization that you are in love with this person.

will you be publishing your IF through Hosted Games? x

Yes I will be! It's just the easiest option, and for two people with very little spare time, the best option. My other IF is published on itch.io, but I haven't had any time to customise the layouts or anything yet so it's not as individual to the story as most Twine published authors, as I used a premade layout from @/cerberus-writes.

I might need to create a FAQ, because this has been asked a lot. Thanks!
