Add Some Oomph to Your Spells with Magical Timing
Like herbs, oils, and crystals, you don’t need to work with magical timing for your spell to be successful. You can cast a spell at any time, no matter your intention, and get your desired results. However, working with the energy of the sun, moon, and days of the week can add an extra power boost to your magic.
Think of it this way: certain energies are dominant at certain times. Those energies are easier to connect with because they are closer at hand, so to speak, so you can bring them into your life and your spells more easily and in a more powerful way. That doesn’t mean you can’t call on other energies during these times — it just means that you may not connect to them quite so easily.
If you choose to work with magical timing in your spells, there are several yearly, monthly, weekly, and even daily cycles you can align your spells with.
Tumblr media
The Cycle of the Sun: Solstices and Equinoxes
These are the turning points that mark the solar year, and are associated with the relationships between day and night, light and dark, summer and winter. Each solstice or equinox marks the end of one season and the beginning for the next. Because they are so rare and so potent, these days are a great time for your “big picture” spells or for spells that need a big power boost.
Winter Solstice. The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year, and falls between December 20 and December 23, depending on the year. In some pagan traditions the winter solstice, or Yule, marks the beginning of the new year — you may choose to set intentions for the coming year on this solstice. After the winter solstice, the nights start getting shorter and the days start getting longer — so spells related to healing and bringing things into the light are especially effective at this time of year. The winter solstice marks the end of the “dark half” of the year and beginning of the “light half” of the year; at this point, our focus turns from inward reflection to outward manifestation. You may choose to think of the time between the winter solstice and spring equinox as a “planning phase,” where you examine yourself and your desires, decide what you want to work on in the next year, and make plans for manifesting what you want.
Spring Equinox. An equinox occurs when the day and the night are exactly the same length, representing a perfect balance between light and dark. The spring equinox marks the beginning of spring and occurs between March 19 and March 22. The Christian holiday of Easter and the pagan holiday of Ostara are both related to the energy of this equinox. At this time of year, the natural world is coming back to life as winter begins to fade. Plants are beginning to grow, and baby animals are being born. This is a powerful time of year for fertility magic and any magic related to new beginnings. You may choose to think of the time between the spring equinox and the summer solstice as a “planting phase,” where you “plant the seed” of the things you want to manifest and begin doing the work to make it happen.
Summer Solstice. This solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year. It occurs between June 19 and June 23. As I am writing this post, we are coming up on the summer solstice (June 20, 2020). Life, fertility, and growth are at their peak during this time of year, which makes this solstice a perfect time for big manifestation spells. At the same time, this marks the end of the “light half” and beginning of the “dark half” of the year, so after the summer solstice our energy shifts from outward manifestation to inward contemplation. You may choose to think of the time between the summer solstice and fall equinox as the “harvest phase,” where you reap the results of your hard work and manifest your desires in the physical world.
Autumn Equinox. This is the other time of year when the day and night are perfectly balanced. The autumn equinox occurs between September 19 and September 23 and marks the beginning of autumn. This is traditionally the time of year when crops are harvested, and many pagan groups celebrate harvest festivals around this time. Nature is beginning to die or go into hibernation in preparation for the coming winter. This is an especially powerful time of year for shadow work or for magic related to endings and transitions. You may choose to think of the time between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice as the “reflection phase,” when you retreat from the outside world to rest, focus on yourself, and do your inner work and self-healing.
Important Note: This post lists dates for the solstices and equinoxes in the Northern hemisphere. In the Southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed. If you live in the Southern hemisphere, you would observe the winter solstice in June, the spring equinox in September, the summer solstice in December, and the fall equinox in March.
Tumblr media
The Cycle of the Moon: Lunar Phases
If you don’t have time to wait for the appropriate solstice or equinox, you can still connect with the cosmos in your magic. One of the biggest pros of the lunar cycle is that it happens roughly every month — so you never have to wait very long for the next full moon. The moon is also associated with magic and spirituality in several traditions, which makes it an especially powerful astral ally for witches.
New Moon. The new moon is when the moon is completely invisible in the night sky, and is the phase opposite the full moon. The new moon is a powerful time for shadow work (because it deals with things that are hidden) and for magic related to new beginnings.
Waxing Moon. The moon is waxing when it appears to be growing in the night sky; this is the phase between the new moon and full moon. This is a powerful time for any magic that deals with drawing something in, building something up, or strengthening something that already exists.
Full Moon. Many witches believe that the full moon is the most powerful time of month for any kind of magic. This is a good time to cast any spell that needs a serious power boost. The full moon is also an especially powerful time to release what no longer serves you or to work healing magic.
Waning Moon. The moon is waning when it appears to be shrinking in the night sky; this is the phase between the full moon and new moon. This is a powerful time for any magic that deals with sending something away, banishing negative energy, or bringing something to an end.
Dark Moon. The dark moon is the three day period immediately before the new moon. In some traditions, it is believed to be bad luck to cast spells during the dark moon. Other traditions hold that the dark moon is the best point in the lunar cycle for destructive magic, such as curses and hexes. Many modern witches don’t recognize the dark moon as a separate moon phase at all. I personally like to use the dark moon as a time for self reflection, and may focus on shadow work during this time.
Tumblr media
Magical Correspondences for the Days of the Week
The days of the week also have their own unique magical energies, and each day is linked to a certain planet and to certain deities.
Sunday. Sunday is, of course, connected to the Sun and solar deities. Sunday is the best day of the week for any manifestation magic that needs an extra boost. Its energy is also associated with healing, personal growth, power, and success.
Monday. Monday is associated with the Moon and lunar deities. Monday is a quiet, introspective day, and can feel very ethereal. It’s the best day for magic related to intuition, nurturing, and shadow work.
Tuesday. Tuesday is associated with Mars and with gods and goddesses of war and action. (It is named for the Norse/Germanic god Tyr/Tiw.) Tuesday is a very “active” day, and is good for magic related to action, activism, victory, or finding courage.
Wednesday. Wednesday is associated with Mercury and with gods and goddesses of wisdom, learning, and communication. (It is named for the Norse/Germanic god Odin/Wodan.) Wednesday is all about mental activity. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to thought, travel, communication (written, spoken, or digital), and learning/study.
Thursday. Thursday is associated with Jupiter and with gods and goddesses of prosperity, wealth, and protection. (It is named after the Norse/Germanic god Thor.) Thursday, like Jupiter in astrology, is all about outward expansion. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to career, prosperity, and wealth.
Friday. Friday is associated with Venus and with gods and goddesses of love, fertility, and sensuality. (It is named after the Norse goddess Freyja, or perhaps the goddess Frigg.) The energy of Friday is fun, lighthearted, and sexy. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to love, beauty, and sex/sexuality.
Saturday. Saturday is associated with Saturn and with time and wisdom. (The day and the planet are both named after the Roman god Saturn.) Saturday is practical and wise, but it does have a little bit of a dark side. It’s the best day of the week for magic related to banishing and protection.
Tumblr media
Magical Times of Day
Okay, so you’d like to start working with magical timing, but what about emergency magic and last-minute spells? What if you don’t have time to wait for the next full moon, or even the next Sunday? You can still align your spell with magical timing! There are several moments of power each day, and each has its own magical associations.
Sunrise. Sunrise is, of course, the birth of the new day. This makes it the perfect time for spells related to new beginnings or expanded possibilities.
Noon. This is the peak or high point of the day. This is a powerful time for healing magic.
Sunset. Sunset is the end of the day, and forms a gateway between light and dark. This is a great time for spells related to accepting endings, releasing that which does not serve, and moving on from the past.
Midnight. If noon is the peak of the day, then midnight is the peak of the night. Midnight has a very ethereal, transformational energy. Like with the full moon, some witches believe that any spell will be more powerful if cast at midnight. This is a powerful time for both banishing and attraction magic.

A Blessing to Welcome Winter
Purpose: To invoke and inspire contentment, inner peace, and the strength to better resolve any conflict within the upcoming season. Let your worries fall with the snowflakes!
Tumblr media
Acquire Your Items: Two sticks of cinnamon, a small light blue ribbon or thread, a white candle
Pre-Ritual: Deep-clean the space you wish to perform your blessing within. Let this area be your designated spot for the following steps, once it has been wiped down, vacuumed, and cleared of any messiness. Lay your supplies out before you.
Ritual: Choose a time in early December in which you feel ready to transition to the coming Winter (regardless of how the weather is outside)! Take ten deep breaths, tie your two cinnamon sticks together, and light your white candle before you; the cinnamon representing luck and fortune, the color blue representing tranquility, and the white candle representing peace and oneness. Light the candle. Hold onto your cinnamon bundle, charging it with your most gentle, welcoming, abundant energies. Visualize your worries falling with the snowflakes, and eventually melting away for good. Recognize the season of Winter as the ending of a period, a time to both rejoice in your accomplishments, and to welcome any upcoming change. Repeat the following chant:
“My heart is warm and I have earned
All that which I have gained.
The year shall close but I shall not;
There’s so much left to learn.”
Post-Ritual: Keep your cinnamon stick bundle in a special spot with your candle (like near your bed), lighting the candle whenever your soul calls for peace. Blessed be! 🕊✨❄️

celestialartisan hat auf deinen Eintrag geantwortet “It feels like there has been a spark in Lokean...”how can i tell if loki is reaching out to me? and where could i learn some background stuff about him?”
Well, ultimately that’s on you to decide in a way.
What makes you think it could be Loki? Do you want him to reach out to you? (Even if he is not, why not go first and say hello if you’re interested in working with him?)
You could do some divination (I swear on Tarot for this) to learn more about the energy that’s reaching out to you.
You could compare the signs you’re noticing and compare them with those that others have received from Loki (although that might differ as much as what kinda offerings he likes from different people, sooo).
For me, it was full of mischief and posing as another deity because I wasn’t ready to accept Loki. He got jealous though because I was too dumb to understand it was him and his cries for attention got meaner.
After I understood it was him and did some shadow working to understand why I was so against him as one of my deities and then having an open but stern heart to heart with him? All is well. And chaotic. Gods, is it chaotic at times. Anyway.
You could invite him for a little talk and try to figure out what he thinks of you and if he is actually reaching out to you. Some people do meditation for this, others use divination together with him and let him speak that way (again, to me it’s always Tarot with these kinda things). If you’re working with dreams, you could also go that route and try to get messages that way.
As for background stuff. It depends. You can read the old sagas - but as far as I remember they have been written down way after being told verbally, and with the intention of making them similiar to Christian beliefs (or at least heavily influenced by it?), so his portrayal might not be all that accurate. Can’t remember where I read that though.
There are some essays and musings both here on tumblr, different blogs, and then the nonfictional books. Like always, take every information with a grain of salt...
If you haven’t already seen it, @lokeanwelcomingcommittee offers a huge reading list and further information.

How is everyone doing? Lately, I find myself getting lost in the demands of meeting career and life obligations, while also trying to pretend that everything is “business as usual” in the middle of a pandemic. We may not notice right away, but if we are not careful to respond to our body’s signals, everyday stress can easily turn into chronic stress. Little problems become big problems. Worry turns into anxiety. With so much chaos around us, it is even more important that we all take time to recognize when we need to take a step back and breath. To use a familiar flight analogy, we have to put on our own oxygen mask before assisting others. Helping yourself first is not selfish. It’s making sure that you are well and taken care of so that you can continue to do what you do. This week, I would like to encourage anyone reading this to take a break. Take some time for you. Check in with yourself. What do you need at this time to feel fully supported and safe?

It feels like there has been a spark in Lokean Energy recently
Since last week I keep finding spiders and bugs in my environment (after way more than a year without them because I had a serious talk with Loki that that’s not cool), but I’m also seeing little tidbits that remind me of him everywhere. Some are subtle, like a craving for a dessert I’ve often offered and shared with him but others are very in my face.
But most of all it’s this nearly restless energy that’s pushing me for changechangechange and not letting people walk over me. Just this week alone I ignored two calls of my mother with absolutely no regrets. And I felt this pleasure and satisfaction around me.
I’m also opening myself up (or rather being subtly made to open myself up) to work on new spells, to leave my comfort zone, and just do. We’ll deal with the outcome when it comes to that kinda feeling.
I’ll still sit down and re-inforce the no insects in my living spaces rule.

Sleeping Spell to Receive Guidance from those who have Departed - Spoonie Edition
Hello lovelies!
Losing a family member can be very hard and it can take a lot out of someone both physically and mentally. Over the past few months I have been trying to figure out how to contact those loved ones who meant so much to me and my family but I find that my body and my mind struggles to produce the energy for such spellcraft. I am by no means a master spellcrafter but I hope this spell can help those of you who may also be feeling lost or confused about life or wish to find closer and get answers to unsolved questions.
Tumblr media
What you need:
1 white candle (taper candle/fake candle are my preferences)
Protection Prayer
Divination Prayer
Name of the person you wish to contact
Window (optional)
Photo or Trinket of departed (optional)
Music, crystals, offerings (optional)
Preparation:
Since this is a sleep spell I urge you to use your safe judgement, I have a safe place I can leave the candle burning all night without worry but also I have found that fake candles work just as well! I also do my whole night routine before this spell, including all my night meds.
What to do:
X - I light my candle or turn on my fake candle, and move on to sound: because of my night terrors sleep in silence and while usually I’ll watch cooking videos at night I do this spell I try to put on visual documentaries - Moving Art on Netflix is a lovely background noise but sometimes I’ll also put on dramas like The Borgias.
X - Say the protection prayer and make sure to include the family members name in the prayer and call on the gods to guide and help the person to you.
*Note: Use as much of a name as you can, for example: “I ask for ____, father/mother of ____, grandfather/grandmother of _____, husband/wife of _____ to visit me tonight.” This helps make sure that your invitation is direct as possible as not to allow negative spirits into your home and dreams.
X - Lay down in your bed and close your eyes, begin to talk to your family member and explain the situation that needs clarity, thank them for making the journey and for any advice they decide to give.  Also talk to the gods, and thank them for protecting you and your family member and for guiding them here safely. Since this is a spell about family I reach out to the gods I am devoted to because they are -in a sense of the word- part of my family, however if you would prefer to reachout to gods of travel/protection or gods of divination specifically that is 100% allowed and encouraged!
(This can get emotional, especially for a recent passing, the first time I reached out to my Abuelo I cried for 20 minutes, but it felt good and I knew was just talking to him and he was comforting me even - if I couldn’t hear his voice.)
X - After you explain everything to your family member and the gods, open your eyes again and take a moment to yourself. Make sure you are 100% relaxed and ready for the night and then say the divination spell. Then, if you so choose blow out the candle and head to bed. As you fall asleep try once again to say thank you to the gods and those who have passed for their guidance.
The Next Day
X - I have found that those how have passed deliver messages in riddles and poems, I recommend writing down what you can remember and figuring out what parts of the dreams can represent aspects of your life.
Important:
Maybe you didn’t receive any dreams that night, don’t stress out. Take time to reflect on who you are reaching out to and what you know about them and who they were like in person and what your relationship was like with them and/or with that side of the family. Maybe there is a broken link with that side of the family, I personally had to repair a relationship with my Abuela before I heard from my Abuelo. However if it is a toxic relationship DO NOT ENGAGE, DO NOT GO BACK TO ABUSE JUST FOR ANSWERS.

Safe Crossings for Someone Who’s Passed
A simple ritual to help someone who’s passed find peace.
Tumblr media
Ingredients:
A small candle (white or black is good, or a color you associate with the deceased)
A small piece of paper and pen/pencil (or special treat or toy if for a beloved pet)
Rosemary oil or leaves
Thyme
Violet, marigold, or rose petals
Ground clove
A pinch of sugar (any kind)
A small candle-safe bowl/holder (needs to be a bit larger than the candle itself so herbs can be placed around)
1.) Write the name of the person or pet on the piece of paper. Write what you wish for them (peace, rest, happiness, love, reunions, etc.). Include the toy and/or treats around the bowl if for a pet.
2.) Place the paper under the candle. If you have rosemary oil, rub the candle with it lightly. If you have the leaves, you can stick them into the candle in a ring around the outer edge.
3.) Create a ring around the candle with the herbs and petals. Sprinkle the sugar around on top last.
4.) Light the candle and say the pet/person’s name and the things you wish for them.
5.) Leave the candle burning as long as you are able, but it’s okay if that’s a short amount of time.
6.) Bury the herbs/petals and paper- or burn them if you’re unable to bury.

Why Does This Deity Want To Work With ME?
Tumblr media
A lot of us cross the line from humble to self-conscious, and it can be hard to see our own worth and understand why a deity, with all their awesomeness, would single us out. Obviously I can’t speak on behalf of any deity and I can’t diagnose every case, but I have some running theories about what makes a deity reach out. Note: The structure of this involves a lot of my personal experiences and beliefs about the divine, so take it as you will. You’re allowed to view it differently than me! Hopefully either way it can help you in some way.
SOME POTENTIAL REASONS:
You’re offering something unique. Everybody worships in a different way, everybody brings something unique to the table. Perhaps they see what you’re doing (or have the potential to do later on) and want a piece of it.
It’s part of something bigger. I’m of the belief that deities still actively orchestrate certain events, and will set pins in place to create change later on. Perhaps for whatever their wider plan is, having you in the fold is good strategic move.
They like what you’re doing already. You’re already living your life in a way that reflects their interests and values, or you’re getting there. You’re already acting as a good example of what they want their followers to be like. So why not make it a thing?
They think they can help. There’s something you need to learn or understand, and deities are pretty known for giving guidance. Your learning style may line up with their teaching style, and there is something uniquely rewarding and satisfying about helping someone with something you know you’re good at.
They just feel like it. I can’t explain the origin behind every relationship I have, sometimes it just happens. Sometimes the reason I talk to someone new is just “They looked cool and I wanted to.” It could very well just be that you piqued their interest!
“But I’m not cool enough for any of that to be me,” You say. Wrong-o! You’re super unique and cool, and absolutely a person of worth! Maybe you’re not measuring your coolness by the same standards the gods/other people are, but everybody has something awesome to offer to the universe. To share an inspirational quote-thing, “Ants are amazing; they lift 5,000 times their own body weight, but that’s just their normal. They can’t see how incredible that is because their perspective doesn’t allow it. It’s the same with you: we can’t see ourselves from the outside to gauge how amazing we truly are.”
“I want to worship X but they haven’t reached out to me…” Reach out to them, then! It’s a two way street. Just cause a deity doesn’t make the first move doesn’t mean you can’t still start a relationship with that deity. Anyway, that’s my ramble! I’d love to hear some stories of how your gods got your attention!

🍂 Autumn Leaf Spell for Letting Go
Autumn is a time of letting go for the Earth, and we can harness this energy to let go of the things that no longer serve us in our lives.
This simple spell will help you let go of something that’s bothering you, weighing you down, or someone you don’t want in your life anymore. It’s very easy to do, and is great for beginners. All you really need are two ingredients! Plus your intention, of course.
Tumblr media
Autumn Leaf Spell for Letting Go
Ingredients:
1 freshly fallen leaf for each thing or person you want to let go of
Pencil or pen
Method:
Take a walk on a crisp Autumn day with the intention of picking leaves for each thing you want to let go of. You might want to take a bag to carry them in once you find them.
Take your leaves home, and get a space ready where you can be alone and comfortable.
Meditate for 10-30 min just to relax yourself and clear your mind.
Now, take your pencil or pen and your Autumn leaves and start writing each thing you want to let go of on each leaf.
After you’ve written on all of your leaves, go outside on a windy day and release each leaf into the wind, along with whatever was written.
