What an honor and a privilege it is to say these words to you Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Welcome to the Eras Tour! Whether or not you intended to, you have ended up at my hometown show! And I don’t know if you know this, little known fact, but I grew up just down the road, so this is pretty insane for me. I really appreciate you being here tonight. You know, you just kind of, I don’t know, you spend your whole childhood with your dad watching Eagles games on TV, in this stadium, and you know, I had a lot of really like, irrational, big dreams as a kid, but none of them were quite as dreamy as playing in this sold-out stadium. So whatever you did, whatever effort you put in to be here tonight, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I cannot thank you enough! And I was raised in Pennsylvania, so I know not to brag. It’s annoying, you know? We’re humble about things. But I have to brag about one thing. On the Eras Tour, we have incredible opening acts, don’t we Philly? So I’m going to have to call them to attention right now. I need you to talk about how incredible this first artist is. She played for you first this evening, she’s an amazing singer-songwriter, her name is Gayle! Give it up again for Gayle! And then we have an artist who is personally one of my favorite artists in the world. You know, I honestly feel like, sort of a contest winner for the fact that she is on this tour. So I feel so incredibly lucky to have her. Will you please make a ridiculous amount of noise for Phoebe Bridgers? Alright, tonight we’re going to go on a journey, you and me Philly, so we’re going to go back in time through 17 years of music that I was lucky enough to make and you were kind enough to care about. We’re gonna go one era at a time. How does that sound? So these songs, they may have started out about being something, being about something that happened in my life, or something I felt at one point in time, or a character I created in my imagination, but here’s my goal for the evening, is that by the time you leave, these songs will be about us, for you, and the memories that we made tonight in this gorgeous stadium with these beautiful people around us.
