We passed a Bentley on the road which prompted @bisexualwolfodonnell to tell me that her proposed surname for Bentley the turtle was "Martin" (as in Aston Martin, keeping up the car theme)

That led us to discuss what Murray's surname would hypothetically be, and naturally I suggested "Pinkman"

sly au where everything is the same but murray's favourite word is 'bitch'

weird urge to play through thieves in time again even tho i know it will just make me angry >:(

#it's frustrating because like. gold nuggets of p solid sly gameplay was peppered in amongst the excessive mini games and boring boss fights #but even then its marred by sly's physics feeling “off” #can't quite explain it but jumping and landing feels Not Right. like he is made of helium but also magnetised to the floor #and there were some good mechanics!! the collectable shit and unlockables were really solid #liked being able to look around the safe house. little details like sly and bentley playing ping pong. that was nice. #i could've put up with the excessive load times and patchy gameplay. they were not the fatal flaw #og trilogy had it's fair share of minigame based gameplay and the odd dud boss battle #the unforgivable parts are the story and the dialog (and to a lesser extent the massive downgrade in cutscene art style) #i cannot be doing with the incessant obnoxious unfunny one liners #id have to mute it... the gems of decent sly/bentley banter are too few and far between to be worth the annoyance #the story just fucks itself straight out the gate by starting off w totally nerfing sly's arc in 3 #and that's before you get to the penelope twist. been talked about ad nauseum but it makes the whole story make no fuckin sense. #there's a ton to say abt this... it's p much all already been said but im just still mad about it ten years on lol

whenever i see someone complaining about "everyone shitting on sly 4" im like.... did we play the same game? does this person have access to a secret version of thieves in time that was good??? no accounting for taste etc etc but i cannot fathom how someone could play the original trilogy and then play thieves in time and think "yeah that was a solid sequel"

#some of the level design was good? the gameplay was.... passable ig? #i have one genuine and non-conditional piece of praise for thieves in time and its that movement while playing as bentley feels real smooth #feels much more like he has wheels than in sly 3 #but the 2d cutscenes....... the writing..... the story...... most of the boss battles.... the load times...... #and the misogyny went from 'standard early 00s fare / sometimes there is An Attempt' to 'oh......that is startlingly unpleasant'

Aw yeah Sly Cooper, that series is now one more year from being allowed to legally drink in the USA. It’s one of my favorite series along with Ratchet. It’s comic book and stylistic inspiration from Saturday Morning Cartoons really had me hooked.

Sly Cooper is so good. The first game, while not my favorite, has a lot of charm! The aesthetic is to die for, and it definitely inspired my art!!! The second game is absolutely amazing in every way— the characters, the environments, and the story— so enjoyable! The third game is a cute conclusion to the series, I loved being able to play as Carmelita. While the game is short and not as good as 2, the writing and humor is superb.

A fantastic trilogy that definitely didn't get ruined with an unnecessary game that butchered every character and left the series on a cliffhanger. Thank god it's just an amazing trilogy.

i was planning on making a ‘let’s talk about how Sanzaru making Carmelita a playable main further hurt her character’ post but turns out i was just beating around the bush/ ranting before arriving to the perfectly simple explanation of: SP reserved Carmelita for key story moments and Sanzaru making her a playable member of the gang just diluted her importance and worth. they basically cheapened her. the player is so well-acquainted with the gang that when Sly falls of a ledge and pulls a Wile E Coyote it’s seen as funny, cartoony stuff. but when you play as Carmelita in the hub and the possibility of losing is very real, then it takes away from how revered she is by the rest of the cast. SP giving us Carmelita missions in Sly 3 was all about showcasing threats that the gang couldn’t take on (the Vincenetti gang, Muggshot and his goons, Sly himself) as well as trying to erase her original image as the stereotypical “sassy, angry latina”. Sanzaru not only tried to push Carmelita as said “sassy angry latina” but now added the layer of “crazy ex-girlfriend” who definitely wanted to destroy the boys’ fun get-together guys she’s so mad! we better give her some space… add to that her being a playable character and the exposure she faces makes her seem mundane and boring
