Sorry if this question has been asked before. Do you think Balan has ever been married? I imagine they’ve had many wives and husbands throughout their life. Sometimes more than one at the same time. And they loved them all dearly.
Personally I don't really think so? It depends on a number of reasons. I assume you're saying that Balan has been married to many humans over the years, and while I do understand the romance and brutally beautiful aspects of that concept, I just don't think Balan has it in him to become that close to someone (or multiple people) he inevitably knows he will outlive, many, many times over.
There's a few sources that state that Balan tries not to become too close to people, even just ones that walk through the theatre for their trials. He loves humans dearly, he thinks they're absolutely fantastic creatures, and he's adored watching humanity grow and change over the many years he's been alive. And perhaps he has thought, in his quiet moments of self reflection, that it would be nice to have someone stay with him as a more permanent force.
But, I think it would just be too hard.
For someone as loving and emotional as Balan is, to know he would outlive every single relationship, it would be too hard for him. It's already hard enough sometimes, to say goodbye to people at the end of their trials, knowing he will have to erase their memories. if he fully gave himself to someone, he would always know deep down that he would one day have to continue on without them. And so, he simply doesn't allow it to go beyond a thought.
It's why I only tend to pair Balan with other beings that are magical and have extended lives beyond humans, because he can at least guarantee he won't be facing having to say goodbye so quickly. That's not to say I don't love seeing people pair Balan with their humans ocs, however! I totally get it. It gives me that vampire love story vibe; the idea of falling in love with something so fleeting, yet still choosing to stay is absolutely beautiful

What are Balan's and Lance's morning routines?
They couldn't be more different, first of all!
Balan: Will get out of bed at 4:30-5am willingly like some kind of madman. Make coffee and read the newspaper or over various reports/visitor profiles he'll have for the day. Then he has his sometimes hours-long self care routine which includes showering, skincare, makeup, haircare, it's a whole ritual that really gets him excited to start the day! He'll inspect his suit and make sure it's in pristine condition. After he'll start his rounds and give people their daily duties, if they don't already have them assigned. He'll also meet with Lance to discuss what kind of visitors they have for the day, and go through the schedule for each of them.
Lance: Will roll out of bed MUCH later, after probably being up for far longer the night before, unlike Balan. I feel like they would opt for caffinated tea instead of coffee. They also have a self care routine but it's not as long or regiment as Balan's, enough to take care of their general hygiene but not over the top. Maybe they will use an old suit so long as it's not actually dirty (and ignore Balan, if he pointedly asks about it). Makes breakfast or picks at leftovers and then head to the meeting where Balan will assign everyone their duties.

The only time Balan can cross into the human world (if one adheres to that HC) is at the point where the real world's veil becomes thin towards the connecting dimensions. Such moments like 3am, when the world becomes strange and takes on that almost eerie, though beautiful vibe, and through the concept of liminal spaces.
I've always wondered about the idea of visitors who, for whatever reason, cannot physically make it into Wonderworld via regular means. Whether it be disability, stuck in hospital, or for whatever reason its impossible for their situation. I love the idea that Balan can cross into our reality when the veil of this dimension is at the thinnest to work with people who can't leave their homes or rooms, but are in desperate need of rebalancing.
I know a lot of times, fantasy tends to leave things like disability glazed over because "Why would that be a problem? Everything is magic!" But I'd prefer thinking of ways it can be incorporated without completely erasing personal struggles, even for a short time. Balan would work within the limitations of every individual, even those that can't physically find and enter Wonderworld. He would simply bring Wonderworld to them.
It makes me think of some situation where Balan visits a hospital during these hours, specifically to cheer up a whole bunch of people who need it. Maybe an entire children's ward, where everyone has so much fun they have to fight not to laugh out loud and alert any passing nurses or doctors.

Can the abilities of the wonderworld costumes deal with daily tasks of our world ?
This idea always makes me laugh because it IMMEDIATELY makes my mind go to a group of Vacuum Blasters just, cruising around the theatre after hours
Tumblr media
But yes! I think they can incorporate their abilities into mundane tasks all the time. After all, work smarter, not harder! If you've got a hose on your arm like a Water Blaster, you're not going to go out of your way to get a bucket of water from a sink.

I didn't want to make the post more run-on than it already was, but I mentioned in this that I found Lance's ending scenes to be very interesting and I'd like to expand on that a bit more!
There's a particular moment I always go back to when I think about these scenes, and that's in the moments between Lance being purified, and ultimately being dragged back to Underworld by the Negati.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's interesting, simply because Lance doesn't fight.
They don't fight the Negati they obviously see coming, they don't fight them infusing their body with Negativity again, and they don't fight being dragged into the abyss. Surely, if being king of all Negativity is that horrendous, they would have put up some kind of fight in order to not be sent back into it, right?
I think Lance didn't fight because they knew it was no use. Someone has to be the Negati leader, someone has to be Lance. For all the meddling they did, to just let it happen without even flinching? It's an interesting response, and it always gets me wondering. There's a sense of knowing and acceptance of what has to happen in order for Wonderworld to stay as it is.
Even as they smile at Emma and Leo in what seems to be thanks, I don't know. Their smile seems sad.

Since balan gets a lot of affection from visitors, do you ever think that not receiving any will make him feel touch starved?
I personally don't believe so, not from visitors. Balan certainly loves positive attention, sure, but I've always imagined it as more of a therapist-patient sort of relationship. So Balan is never truly that close to anyone who comes through the doors, and enacts a healthy set of boundaries with every visitor. This is kind of reinforced in the game/novel as well, due to the fact Balan seems to have a good hands-off approach with a majority of the trials and time spent in Wonderworld. He's there to oversee things, and offer some guidance every so often (albeit, in a very non-helpful, cryptic af manner), but he isn't close with the visitors most of the time.
- We can also kind of see it in his reactions to Leo telling him to buzz off and even be rude to him sometimes. Balan doesn't really react one way or the other to it, his response is to simply shrug it off.
Though to be fair, I'd say the end of the game sort of shows that this slips sometimes, albeit very rarely. I'd personally say this is due to the events of the game/novel being particularly hard for all of them, even Balan, so he loses himself in the moment. Perhaps those hearts had been trapped for a longer period of time than any others, so the relief of having them finally repaired again was infectious. But even when Emma and Leo go in for the hug at the end, Balan still pushes them away after a moment and immediately returns to his usual self, so I don't think it lingers in any form. Besides, he'll see them all again at some point or another, so I don't think he's too upset about anyone leaving

So at the end of the game, Lance turns vanilla flavored and then gets dragged into what I can only assume is hell. Was that all a show in your canon? What if someone followed him in to try and help? /Mod silvs
The canon scene for this has always been really interesting to me, and it's somewhat similar to my own AU in what happened.
Grant it, I don't have a lot of my canon perfectly ironed out yet, and a lot of it I may rebuild as time goes on. Admittedly I jumped the gun on all of this because I was so excited for the game, and made up a lot of things from very little information at the time. Can you blame me, I latched onto this hyperfixation so quickly 😂
What I'm thinking right now, is that it was all a show of sorts. Balan and Lance do play their roles and it is usually all an act in my canon, designed specifically to help heal hearts and restore balance, but never upset the balance of their own world and dynamic in the process. Balan and Lance are, in a way, trapped within their roles (or, they assume so at least), so their script is often set to just that. Balan is the benevolent, guiding hand to the visitor, and Lance is the hard-hitting, opposing force which seeks to 'stop' them. They are the support and the villain, the scriptwriter and the complication respectively.
Not surprisingly, this can have a pretty fucked up effect on someone. To constantly be set in a role where they're the villain of the story, and for so long that their role now sort of bleeds into their real character beyond the show. In short, Lance snapped. And in the worst possible ways, because Lance actually had the capacity to hurt real people. Lance attempted to flip the script, mid play, without consulting anyone. They were sick of being cast in Balan's shadow and they wanted to change it, desperately, so in a moment of weakness they manipulated people into a false reality.
As much as I feel Lance is interesting and has the capacity to become a better person, Lance very much did fuck up in the game/novel. There was still heavy manipulation involved, and it's why I think that after the events of the game, it takes a very long while of serious work for Lance to relearn how to treat people. It even becomes a point of contention between Balan and Lance, where Balan has a hard time trusting them for a long while, heck, even all of Wonderworld might too. Especially when it comes to fixing hearts and being around humans in general. It's what leads to the huge spike in tension between them, causes them to fight way more and far more viciously.
So, long story short, what is usually all an act, this time was not. Lance genuinely snapped and went off the rails and hurt people, disrupted the balance, and caused a serious rift to form between themself and Balan. And this in tune demands a long while of working at that to fix it, because it certainly doesn't get better for a long while.
IF someone tried to follow and help Lance into the Negative space (I've just been calling it Underworld to be fitting), I think Lance would be horrified. They already know how much they've fucked up in that moment, and they know the punishment will be severe. But to have someone tail after them into the dark like that would be terrifying, because I can only imagine that exposure to Underworld isn't good by any means. I assume Balan would either yank them out before anything happened, or Lance would force them back out and into Wonderworld.

I like to think that within Nightmare, it's extremely uncommon for Nightmaren to get sick because the energy of the world constantly heals any ailments they have, as Wizeman likes to keep them in top condition (since most are basically soldiers ready for deployment and need to be healthy at all times)
After NiGHTS rebels and subsequently finds a place to seek refuge with Owl, I can imagine the first time they actually get sick with something very mundane like a cold, they completely freak out and think they might be dying.
NiGHTS: I'm cold, I can't stop shivering, my head feels like it's filled with cotton, I keep sneezing and my nose is running and I didn't even know we had noses-
Owl: My dear, that's just a cold! A very common illness. You'll be like that for a few days, but some rest will do you good. Would you like me to make you some soup? It'll help you feel better
NiGHTS, still not used to the concept of kindness without obligation: ...
Owl: It has little star shaped noodles in it
NiGHTS:
NiGHTS: Yes please 🥺

So Mod Pas and I have realised our worldbuilding and headcanons have become far different from each other, so if you'd like to have your questions answered by a preferred mod, please tag either of us when you send in an ask! /Mod Silvs or /Mod Pas. We always tag ourselves when we answer asks so people can differentiate, but feel free to ask if you'd like a specific mod to answer your questions
Mod Pas also has a personal blog where they are still answering their own asks (@pastiel) and asks on my art blog are open for anything to do with ocs and au's 👌👌

Okay but couldn't Balan just...magic up another suit? Or did he actually have to buy it?
I mean sure but it's not as funny lol 😂
I also like the idea that Balan has things tailored for him, esp his wardrobe or personal room decor. And that Wonderworld does have a form of currency, or at the very least bartering system that Balan likes to honour (shop local folks). While it may not cost money, per se, the materials could be extremely difficult to come by, or have a lengthy process in which they need to have magic imbedded into them so they can change form whenever Balan shapeshifts!

Would balan allow visitors to carry, bring or eat outside world food into the theatre? If they had it in there pocket or backpack or somewhere on them? If it was vital to their health?
If it's vital to their health they would 100% allow visitors to carry food into the theatre, especially if it's someone like a type 1 diabetic who medically requires it.
But, even beyond that, I think he doesn't mind people bringing snacks into the theatre at all! Especially if their trials last for a long while, and may even require an 'intermission' type deal where they can relax, rest and recover (Balan would absolutely being them food and drink during this time too!).
So long as a visitor isn't eating something at the time of attempting to touch him in any form, I think he'd be cool with it. There's nothing more terrifying to Balan than facing a toddler with sticky, chocolatey hands in a white sequined, expensive suit.

Ask! Do you have any headcanons for bww costumes what they usually do in theatre?
A few headcanon are okay too! ^^
I DO INDEED ANON
I know I mention here and there that Balan and Lance have staff within the theatre which help them run the show and work behind the scenes a lot, but I don't recall if I ever wrote a post explicitly about it.
To condense a whole bunch of worldbuilding down, in my universe the stages that are created from humans hearts continue to exist outside of their Wonderworld trials. These becomes areas that costumes will continue to live even after the heart has been fixed and returned back to their own time! This is so when said visitor needs to return to Wonderworld, they can continue to run trials in their respective stages -sometimes even making it bigger and more elaborate each time they return!
'Costumes' live as a general populace within Wonderworld, and all the smaller, subsequent stages within it. They have jobs, they live their own lives, and they create their own families too! Balan and Lance have a small group of costumed staff as their personal crew, a highly loyal and trusted group that they can always rely on for any task that needs to be done. It's a rigorous process to apply for a position within it, but literally everyone wants to be part of it, so they get a lot of applicants.
If they aren't staff, Balan and Lance also tend to get quite a lot of costumes who turn out to see shows they put on in between fixing hearts! It's a theatre after all, so why wouldn't they put on plays and social events every so often?

How many languages do you think Balan speaks? I imagine they can speak pretty much everything, whether it’s Japanese, Syriac, Armenian, etc.
I think he can speak literally any language!
Balan, Lance and any other member of the Maestro species can understand and speak any language they encounter, to various degrees. This is due to the fact Maestros don't necessarily speak through regular means! Most, if not all Maestro's have an ability called 'Heartspeak', where they can create an instantaneous connection from their heart straight to another's. This allows them to completely read a person right from a first glance -they'll read their story, they'll understand their current reason for being unbalanced (if they first meet in the Theatre, that is), and even little details that can help them understand exactly what they need to have their balance repaired.
It also makes sense that Balan and Lance would have a pretty strong set of linguistic skills because they've been around for SO long, and have encountered millions of people multiple times, which would constantly keep their skills sharp even if they didn't have the ability of Heartspeak.
They have also taught themselves sign language for inclusivity, and in fact, when Balan or Lance create copies of themselves their dopplegangers actually don't have the ability to speak with a voice, so they all use sign language instead!
As an added note, there's a similar headcanon I have that Nightmaren can also perceive and understand all known languages through dualization, which can also alter their speech patterns and accents to fit the visitor -hence why NiGHTS and Reala have British accents in JoD with no explanation!

What would happen of one or some of the Tims hung out with Lance?
Those tims would probably end up turning into negati!
Prolonged exposure to Lance would most likely cause the tims to absorb copious amounts of negativity, even if not intentional on Lance’s behalf. The idea is cute, for sure, for Lance to be surrounded by a bunch of tims. But I also think they would simply morph into negati, or a tim version of a negati.
Fuzzy negati...
On the topic of tims becoming negati, Lance would surely adopt them all. I quite like the idea that all the negati are like a family for Lance.

What would be Lance's reaction to a visitor who prefers hanging out with him and his negeti more rather than balan and the tims. Not for any negative reason but because they find him cool?
Lance, quite honestly, may welcome this with a hint of confusion.
He’d probably find it interesting, curious even. Why would someone want to spend all their time with him when Balan exists, and is having a blast all the way over in the spotlight? It’s not meant to be a question based in weary, but rather in slight disbelief.
Lance is reclusive as shown by his actions in game, and usually keeps to himself. He’s not one to really... put himself out there naturally, unless in disguise or comfortable with the group he is around. Having someone approach him, completely of their own volition, might honestly flatter him but make him question as to why.
But who is Lance to judge? If they are more comfortable with the quiet, then he is happy to offer it! And, perhaps a negati companion, if requested!
