i love how both jess and rory (yes, rory, too!) had communication problems with each other as teenagers (shocking!!! that teenagers might not communicate… at all, let alone in a healthy way. it’s almost like… they’re teenagers. wow!) and especially jess considering his troubled background (which people refuse to sympathize with at all lol) and somehow that’s supposed to be some huge mark against their relationship and make jess completely irredeemable. even though that all happened when they were teenagers. and meanwhile by the time the show proper ended, they were in their 20s and that wasn’t an issue anymore as jess especially had done a lot of growing up and became a much more mature, responsible person. and by the time of ayitl, they were in their 30s (and jess by far was the most well adjusted adult in the entire show). but somehow we’re still bringing up problems in their relationship. when they were teenagers.

I like in period dramas when a woman is supposed to be strong and a feminist so they dress her in more masculine clothing,

as though there weren’t strong feminists of the time who specifically decided not to wear masculine or different clothing because no one took them seriously when they did.

Because you know, men strong, women weak. To convey strength we must dress her in man clothes because men strong. She must reject corset, because corset evil. Now all her clothes will be really uncomfortable because they are made to fit with a corset and the corset distributes the weight but no, corset bad.

And of course she doesn’t want to do women’s work, such as sewing, or cooking the food necessary to live. We will have her deliver a baby later though, because she’s a woman so she’d know how to do that.

She will also have messy hair because brushing one’s hair is a sign of femininity, despite the woman almost always living in an era where men were paying particular attention to either their facial hair, their wigs, and/or their makeup.

To recap:

Messy hair=strong woman.

Masculine clothing=feminism.

No corset=freedom

She will of course have shaved legs and armpits though. She’s still a woman after all and as we all know, women have been shaving since the beginning of time.

She’ll also end up being the object of attraction to literally all of them men because she’s not like other girls. No, she’s one of the bros.

She rides astride and she knows how to shoot a gun and/or use a sword. Her father probably taught her before he died, and now, 10 years later, with no further training and no partner to practice with, she’s an expert and will probably beat several fully trained experts in a duel.

Why why WHY did we only almost always see Jess and Rory’s relationship when they were fighting??

These two dated for, what, eight months, and yet we barely saw any moments of them together when they weren’t fighting. Like, no first date, no concert, no just hanging out. None.

And it’s not like Rory and Jess’s entire relationship was just fighting. It’s not like they didn’t go out on dates. Their dates was alluded to many, many times. Jess was always mentioning that he had plans with Rory to Luke. Jess was definitely in Rory’s schedule multiple times.

Yet we only get to see them fight. This is why people say Jess was a bad boyfriend, because the writers only ever showed that side of him.
