I feel like the "Kaz pushes Inej away bc he thinks he's not enough for her" trope that I see a lot in fics is kind of a big misread of Kaz's character and leans too far into the standard "sad bad boy" character type. Kaz calls Inej "lovely and brave and better than anything he deserved" but a lot of people seem to forget the very next line where he says he's "not so broken that he couldn’t pull himself together into some semblance of a man for her."

Like, Kaz sees that Inej is better than he deserves, and his response to that isn't "I should treat her like shit so she'll give up on me", it's "challenge fucking accepted." If you tell him a safe is uncrackable, he won't stop until he's cracked it, and if you tell him he's not good enough for the girl he loves, he'll spend the rest of his life trying to be.

Okay but like can we admire how epic Nesta is? She learns how to fight and starts/revives a warrior tribe of women. She just started training, went on her first mission and ended up finding the mask, raising the dead, and killing a mythical creature no one has seen in a while. She goes to the prison once, first time, she finds an ancient weapon that controls space and time, releases a death god and kills him. Actually kills him when they say it can’t be done. She is one of the first women to compete in the Rite and because of her two other women win it for the first time and make it to Ramiel. She blows up the queen, and her power is felt all the way to the human lands. She defies death, keeping her sister and her sister’s mate and child alive, thereby saving an entire court. And this is just this book.

She takes from the cauldron. Scares grown powerful men. The wind whispers her name. The Bone Carver knows about her. She rattles EVERY single person she meets.

What other character has reached this level of epic badassery?

The IC’s Easter

Cassian: Wakes up from excitement to win the easter egg hunt. Sprints around to beat everyone else to them because he wants the chocolate and the title of number one (even though like the snowball fight Az always wins). Argues that it’s not fair for Az to get to compete because his is literally and spy and has his shadows. Also has a face full of chocolate because he eats everything he finds.

Azriel: Is secretly up early scoping out all the hidden eggs. Lets Cassian and Rhys find the easy ones but swoops in with all the well-hidden eggs and smirk. Offers his chocolate to Elain. Is the most tame of all the bat bois. Flies Nyx around with him to hunt for the eggs (because Uncle Az🥺).

Rhys: Thinks he is going to win because Feyre hid the eggs and believes she’s going to tell him where they all are- she doesn’t. Runs around the house laughing at Cassian who looks like he might throw up. Cuddles up with Feyre and Nyx when the hunt is over.

Feyre: Is being bombarded by Rhys and Cass for hints but refuses to disclose the location of the eggs. Is sitting on the couch with Mor laughing at the bat bois both knowing full well that Azriel already found the last one and Rhys and Cassian are still looking.

Mor: Is eating just as much if not more chocolate than Cassian until she is so stuffed she can barely move. Lounging on the couch laughing hysterically at Cassians face and Amren’s disgust with the day. Is very excited for easter dinner even and so incredibly happy to be with the family she created. Also playing with Nyx when Az isn’t flying him around.

Amren: Looks like she hates the holiday, secretly loves it but will bite anyone’s head off who speculates about her love. Finds the competition over finding hidden eggs stupid given that it is obvious Az will always win. Mostly looking forward to Varian’s arrival.

Nesta: Sitting with Amren observing the festivities. Thinking about how cute Cassian is but is disgusted with herself for the thought. Planning how her, Gwyn and Emerie are going to beat Az next year. Secretly glances at Feyre and Nyx- her heart warms.

Elain: Is kind of a social butterfly bouncing from Mor and Feyre to Nesta but is relatively quiet regardless of who she is with. Mostly just avoiding Lucien who makes a brief appearance. Sometimes tries to catch Azriel’s attention and is delighted when he comes to give her some chocolate. Brought flowers for everyone from her garden that is beginning to grow.

Just here to remind you all that Fenrys Moonbeam listened to his brother tell him how much he hated him. Then watched his brother plunge a knife into his heart. Watched his brother draw his last breath. He had to sit in a puddle of his blood. Forced to clean-up the blood that Maeve took from Connall. Forced to clean-up the glass that dug into the only friend he had in Maeve’s darkness. And then he cried. Fenrys Moonbeam, the funny, upbeat, arrogant Fenrys cried.
