i know their words hurt and i know they were cruel and i know you weren’t treated the way you should’ve been. i know, i do. none of it reflects on you, though. someone who fails to see your worth (or anyone else’s, for that matter) is someone who needs to change their own beliefs on life. it’s not your job to convince them into doing so. it’s not your job to prove to someone in this world that your existence & humanity are pure and worth being valued. that’s not on you, that’s on them.

I know for sure that I've experienced a few of those from the above points. It's affected me as an adult in so many ways than I know - emotionally, with relationships, at work...you name it. Looking back at my childhood, yeah I love my family for the sacrifices they did, yeah I acknowledge they have done alot for me growing up, but the silent rules that I noticed growing up has stayed in my brain tucked away, only to show up and spoil things when they matter the most!
