I want to write a book called “your character dies in the woods” that details all the pitfalls and dangers of being out on the road & in the wild for people without outdoors/wilderness experience bc I cannot keep reading narratives brush over life threatening conditions like nothing is happening.
I just read a book by one of my favorite authors whose plots are essentially airtight, but the MC was walking on a country road on a cold winter night and she was knocked down and fell into a drainage ditch covered in ice, broke through and got covered in icy mud and water.
Then she had a “miserable” 3 more miles to walk to the inn.
Babes she would not MAKE it to that inn.

My absolute favorite comments to get as a fic writer are the ones that are like "hey this porn you wrote is hot."
Because it is so hard to write good sex scenes. You're constantly wondering "is this actually hot or will it sound insane/cringey?" You're trying to hit emotional beats while not taking away from the sexiness. You're trying to make sure actions are clear and nothing gets all muddled and confusing for the reader. It requires you to really think about how the characters are going to react to everything that happens, so on top of making sure it's actually hot, you have to worry about if it's in-character for everyone involved. It's so much easier to write sex scenes that are bad on purpose than sex scenes that are actually good and meant to be hot.
So, yeah, I assure you, because the most common thing I hear people saying when they leave a comment about the sex scenes I write is "I hope it's not weird to comment on this scene," it's not weird at all and I appreciate it so much! I am literally never going to be mad at someone leaving a row of 🔥 emojis in their comment, I promise. If you're reading a fic and you think the sex scenes are well done, let the author know! That's likely one of the parts they're a bit nervous about working well so it'll mean so much to know you thought it was good.

One thing I didn't expect from my new worldbuilding book is the author, roughly my dad's age, including his opinions on furries

@blind-the-winds came up with a game idea!
Rules: Pick a bunch of your WIPs and summarize them as badly as possible, then ask your followers to vote on which one they'd be most likely to read. Multiple/all/none options are completely optional.
Tagging @avrablake @owlsandwich and @space-writes and else who wants to play!

how do words
Threaten your imagination into compliance and slap them hands onto your keyboard, or get ready to stab paper repeatedly with the pointy ink stick.
Scream angrily into the void for at least thirty minutes.
Wait for void to scream back.
Write down whatever returns, trapping those motherfuckers on your page. Spend at least an hour deciphering and beating them with a stick until they fall somewhat in line, then bask in the fact that you now have words on a page, which is considerably more than you had before.
Results may vary, but there’s always tomorrow.

i made a character sheet. free to use as you wish, feel free to change whatever you want XD open source ass thing. spent all of ~maybe an hour on it.
Credit: the text in the insert-image box comes from this video, and the text for the top three lines (intense, complex, fruity) comes from this post. The actual image was made with the free NBOS character sheet creator, which is a sort of dated but free and solid text-layout sheet maker intended for ttrpg style character sheet creation.

Wizard: I would like to spread the rumor that Lord Montague has a small dick.
*rolls dice*
Wizard: I rolled a natural 20.
*later in the session, while gathering information about robberies in the area*
Wizard 2: have your heard anything at your local Tavern?
NPC: I hear Lord Montague has a small dick.

Hello!
Your blog is very informative and comprehensive, which I am very appreciative of. I’m not sure if you like to give writing advice very much, because it’s very different from advice for the real world, so please feel free to disregard this question. I’m working on a sci-fi piece involving a character who is losing his hearing. I don’t want to portray this in a way that may be offensive or spread incorrect ideas or stereotypes, but I also want the character to have a complex and significant emotional arc involving his hearing loss, his (non-human) culture, and his personal acceptance. Do you have any thought about how an arc like this should be portrayed? Or any advice on portraying hearing loss in general?
Once again, don’t feel obligated to answer! I know it’s an odd question.
Thank you and best wishes!
Hello,
I am not best at writing questions, I am afraid. Its not really an odd question, its actually the most common question I get here. 😅 (well, not the specifics, but people asking about how to write deaf or hoh char)
I recommend checking out our comprehensive guide.
If your character will be major feature of the story and you plan to publish it (as in, its not a fanfic just for fun), you should also get a sensitivity reader to check your work.
And there is a specific tumblr blog for writing questions!
They answer general stuff and stuff about deafness as well.
Good luck writing!
