stitches
Sammy’s five when he clambers up onto the old wooden fence at the back of the motel parking lot, and never mind that Daddy said to stay off it. Sam’s bored, the pizza isn’t here yet, Dean’s busy with homework, and Dad’s busy writing in his book that Sam isn’t allowed to see. Both of them yelled at him to turn off the tv.
He balances carefully, arms spread wide as he puts one foot in front of the other, teeters along the rounded plank. He’s hopping over a fence post when his foot slips and he falls, catches his hand-me-down sweatpants on a nail sticking out and the giant rip more than his scraped elbow has fat tears rolling down his cheeks. The pants are ruined, the leg half torn off at the knee, and all Sam can think is that Dad’s gonna be mad that he wrecked his pants so he hides in the bushes as the sun sets.

Question: It's been a while since you two have played Sam and Dean on Supernatural, so I was just wondering, when it's just the two of you and there's nobody else around, do you just sometimes pretend to be Sam and Dean?
Jared: Did you - I'll tell you the truth if you tell me the truth. Did you bring something with you from the Netherlands and use it this morning to? I'm kidding, kidding [laughs]. I don't - that's a great question, a funny question, I don't think we've ever been asked it. I think there's a part of Jared that's Sam - I think there's a part of Jared that's Dean. I think there's a part of Jensen that's Dean, and a part of Jensen that's Sam. Like, these guys were in our lives for fifteen years, we've lived with them. So I don't think we ever, like, go through scenes?
Question: [?] when you're driving in the car, it's just the two of you and then you say, 'Now get this"
Jared: Yeah, yeah, we'll pull out our weapons and our machetes. Every now and again when he and I are together and no one's around, he will kind of take a moment and say, 'You smell that?' And I'll be like, 'It ain't sulfur.' [ostentatiously winks]
Jensen: I'd say it's probably more of us referencing [Jared: Yeah.] Sam, Dean, and Supernatural, and the experience that we had for fifteen years, rather than slipping into the characters and [both chuckle]
Jared: I blacked out, what happened?
Jensen: Somebody yell action!
Jared: She might be on to something though, maybe we should try? Just look around and be like, 'Anybody there?' [audience cheers] She said when no one else is around! Y'all are right fuckin' there! No, but maybe every now and again if we're just sittin down, chillin out, be like, 'Anybody here?' [faux whisper to Jensen] I don't hear anything. 'Anybody here?' [to Jensen] Alright, so get this, the lore says... I'm not against it.
Jensen: We would also probably get arrested. We should - for Halloween, we should just go as Sam and Dean, and like, cruise in the Impala around town.
Jared: That's probably the easiest outfit to buy.
Jensen: So easy.
Jared: A flannel shirt and some boots.
Jensen: So easy, and we look just like 'em. Like it's -
Jared: We look like they aged poorly. Just kidding. Thank you.

"It hurt to lose to Ronald Reagan. But after the election, I tried to make the transition as smooth as possible. Later, from my experience in trying to brief him on matters of supreme importance, I was very disturbed at his lack of interest. The issues were the 15 or 20 most important subjects that I as President could possibly pass on to him. His only reaction of substance was to express admiration for the political circumstances in South Korea that let President Park close all the colleges and draft all the demonstrators. That was the only issue on which he came alive."
-- Former President Jimmy Carter, on losing the 1980 election and the transition leading to the inauguration of Ronald Reagan, interview with TIME Magazine, October 11, 1982.

Xena and Gabrielle were my very first grumpy/sunshine ship and I didn't even know it. I didn't understand what subtext was when I was eleven, you see. I just knew that I loved them... and wanted to BE Gabrielle. Which, I guess, means I had a thing for Xena - the oversized poster on my closet door back then was... really doing a lot of work in my life, how the HELL did my mom keep a straight (no pun intended) face???

A Little Off
Things are a little off with Sammy. He’s been secretive, and at first Dean thinks it’s normal kid stuff. Puberty or something - Sam’s twelve, and they just had an awkward talk about wet dreams and “just wake me up so we can change the sheets, all right? I don’t wanna sleep in it.”
(sam blushing furiously as he nodded, red on his cheeks like the girls dean sweet talks into the backseat and out of their panties, makes dean’s belly hot with anger at his baby brother for making him think these things)
Maybe Dean could believe that Sammy’s just exploring himself a bit, looking for privacy they can’t find in motels and shared beds. But there’s more to it than Sammy disappearing after school, coming back just before dinner in a rush to finish his homework. There’s clothing, vanishing from Dean’s duffle and showing up the next day freshly washed. There’s Sam, watching him with dark eyes when he flirts with pretty girls.
(“please, dean, can’t you stay in and watch a movie with me? please?” sam’s voice high, begging the way a girl does when dean’s got his tongue on her clit and two fingers in her pussy and she’s begging for his dick and dean can’t stay in even though he wants to, wants to paint his baby brother with bruises for making him feel these things)
