i'm so happy to have seen and experienced the beauty and intricacy of wong kar-wai's works on the big screen... aaaahhhhh!!! and i'm satisfied with my will to carry out my long-overdue plan to rewatch some of his filmography via its restored versions! 100% will do it again. 🥹

on a more personal level
(I was too bashful to add this to my ‘review’ in LB and too lazy to get myself to write in my notebook, so I'll air it here on Tumblr instead.)
Beau Is Afraid intensifies my reason to not have children of my own. I just don't want to pass on my traumas and trap any human-being in this prison we call society. Kahit na sabihing hindi natin gagawin sa mga magiging anak natin ang naranasan/ginawa ng magulang natin sa atin, lo and behold, the inevitable will happen and that is beyond our control. So, no. I’d rather deal with my hang-ups and unfinished business and live my life according to my own definition of happiness and stability. At the end of the day, it is still a choice. I do hope we can have that at least, without hindrance or restriction.
in the philippine setting
Isingit ko lang na biktima lang din ang mga magulang natin ng pabago-bagong panahon, tradisyon at paniniwala (BUT we should also question some of their ways that violate one’s right, specifically abuse and exploitation). There are many factors as to why generational trauma is prevalent especially in countries conquered by colonialism and imperialism... We were never freed, really.

Park Chan-wook interviewed by Mouloud Achour for Le Gros Journal:
- “Many compared you to Quentin Tarantino because of the violence in your movies, but I prefer comparing you to Stanley Kubrick, because you always tackle issues of modernity, present and future times, and you explore the themes of domination by the rich and violence of the poor. - Your remark is very interesting. On the set of Stoker in the United States, Nicole Kidman made a similar comment. She said that I was often compared to Hitchcock, but that she would see more resemblance between me and Stanley Kubrick.”

everything everywhere all at once is about intergenerational trauma. about depression and passive suicidality and the gravitational appeal of nothingness. about aging, getting older in your twenties and getting older in your fifties. about the specific hurt mothers can cause their daughters and daughters their mothers. about the harsh reality of the immigrant experience and the american dream. but it’s mostly about kindness and family and it’s about choosing to sit at home talking about taxes with someone who loves you, and it’s about telling your daughter that you’d choose her over the entire universe, and it’s about how even in the universes where life didn’t form, love can still exist. and it’s really all of that at once.
