she ra spop pushed me to read meta/fic for the first time in like… five years which is fun but also frustrating because i’ve realized a lot of people writing romance don’t understand that for a relationship be compelling to read about both characters have to be compelling on their own. it’s interesting bc the core of she ra the show is the relationship btw adora and catra and although the show is good the resulting fanworks are a bit of a cocktail for bad fanfic because it reduces them (tho lbr mostly catra) to their feelings for each other which is not only boring and reductive and honestly kind of passionless but like. unhealthy. good characters have drives. good characters want things, more than anything in the world, and that want cant be another person (at least for the resulting relationship to be uuhhh good). adora wants to be Good and do Good and to stop people from suffering, more than she wants catra. catra wants recognition and Power and sheer selfish Glory more than she wants adora. those drives were planted and watered and cultivated because of how they were raised with each other, but are not about each other. what i mean to say is if i have to read another bad dialogue fight based around the whole “you left me!!” issue i’m going to have to write fic on my own and Nobody Wants That
