I know I don't post a lot anymore but for anyone coming here for XMen 97 stimulating your nostalgia into a tumblr browse, please remember to at the very least pirate the new series, but post nothing about it in promotion of Disney +. This doesn't just mean not posting about going to watch Disney +, it does not mean posting public links or hosting watch parties with followers or discord servers- this means not posting about it in celebration of it until Disney and more specifically the Marvel division of Disney understand that we're not letting them make money off of a movie character named after a colonial massacre.

If you watch it and don't give Disney money? Fine- how would I even know? Just don't post about the series in a positive way that might attract someone who hadn't noticed it was out or might not be familiar with the series OR reasons for boycott.

Headcanon that magneto does in fact have telepathy but it's not like typical psychic telepathy rather it's due to the way he perceives the electromagnetic spectrum and by proxy electrical impulses

Cable

Literally known as the "Mysterious Pokemon-" Starmie is a psychic type capable of great blasts of energy from its red stone many value and is said to be able to send signals into space where it's been rumored to be from. Some people also use starmie to predict the future.

Rachel Summers

Said to have formed from an abandoned doll, Banette is a powerful ghost type pokemon driven by vengeance, though its said to activate these powers by sticking itself with pins like a voodoo doll so that others may feel the pain its been dealt.

Forge

One of the few pokemon to use a weapon in battle, Dewott is a force to be reckoned with. Highly intelligent, but this pokemon isn't necessarily easy to train. It's very proud and self sufficient- every team should have a pokemon like Dewott backing them up.

Firestar

A uniquely beautiful pokemon, Rapidash doesn't want to stop until it knows what it's capable of and has pushed every limit. It's recorded as being one of the fastest pokemon, but that's only after it's type as Ponyta- being a very weak pokemon at birth and getting stronger by working through its stumbles.

fave pokemon of the new x men? surge, prodigy, gentle, mercury, wolverine ii, hellion, elixir, rockslide, bling!, anole, pixie, and blindfold (this is a lot so if you dont wanna do all you can just pick and choose)

Surge

Magnectric is a solitary pokemon that passively gets more powerful until it allows itself to discharge. I also like that its little booties look like her gauntlets. As i said, it is solitary and rarely appears around others, but when it makes the decision to, that's a decision for life.

Prodigy

FINALLY someone I feel good about giving a Ditto. Ditto's whole THING is imposter syndrome- taking appearances and moves from other pokemon. It's adaptable and strong all on its own for this purpose, but many trainers can't use that potential to their strengths, but I think David would find the will and the way.

Gentle

I chose Escavalier for him because it has to take on another pokemon's shell in order to protect itself as it comes into itself and relearns it limits. It's a brave pokemon that faces life head on after evolving from a desperate early stage. It can only evolve by changing its surroundings and challenging itself.

Mercury

Tinkaton is a daring steel/fairy type pokemon that doesn't seem to know when to quit. It's intelligent, quick, and stronger than it looks with the ability to great things. It always has its eye on the dangers in the sky, and it lives in herds always looking for a connection.

Hellion

I was considering a fire/psychic type or even just a psychic type on its own, but landed on Turtonator. It is a scary looking pokemon, but it's actually one of the few that can learn the move Protect. It's a loud pokemon that can camouflage itself, but isn't afraid to stick out on its own and show off what it's capable of. Just be wary of its toxic points, and be gentle when it shows off its softer side.

Elixir

Audino is one of the few pokemon that can learn the Healer ability- it also becomes a lighter fairy type form when Mega Evolved. This pokemon is ultra sensitive to others and can actually lower negative feelings in others with pulses of energy. These pulses can also put the person to sleep, and it's the ONLY pokemon that can learn Secret Power (a move that has a 30% to alter the enemy pokemon's status) by leveling up.

Rockslide

Gigalith sets itself apart from its fellow solo-type rock types with its hidden power and how it also- like Escavalier- must leave where it came from in order to grow stronger. It takes a lot onto itself and compares itself with its peers from its first stage- making sure it's hard enough to whether the hard life this pokemon sees ahead for itself.

Bling

Mawile is a pokemon with a cute face sometimes described as "docile-" but that's only half the story. Its jaw-like horns of steel are incredibly powerful. This fairy/steel type brings dual typing to its full potential in an effort to prove it's more than a pretty face- and that effort has been paying off.

Anole

Cyclizar is in fact based on an Anole lizard- but I ended up going with Sceptile. This grass type lizard pokemon has quite the upgrade to its arms from its previous evolution that makes it quite a foe to face. Its pods on its back also carry nutrients meant for trees around it but it can tap into itself. A resilient and adaptable pokemon that has survived many trials and will survive many more.

Pixie

Meet THE fairy pokemon before fairy type pokemon: Clefable. To get a Clefable to evolve the first time, you have to be friends with it and then to evolve again you must expose it to a moonstone. Clefable is intrinsically tied to emotions and dreams, though let's not so quickly forget it's evil twin, Gengar, and all of the danger possessed in both of these pokemon for all of the love Clefable spreads.

Blindfold

Mismagius is a pokemon equivalent of a banshee: predicting tragic ends for all of those who hear its terrible cry. I think Ruth would understand the fear surrounding this pokemon, but at the end of the day: it doesn't cause these terrible fates. It only warns of them. Aside from that, this Ghost type has the potential to be quite the friendly companion.

Colossus

Sudowoodo has a secret: This seemingly plant-based pokemon is actually a rock type! Commonly found in the teams of artist trainers, Sudowoodo is a fun loving companion that often pretends to be a tree in an attempt to avoid conflict.

Storm

Altaria is a powerful dragon type pokemon with the rare typing of Dragon/Fairy in its mega evolution. It billows through the sky like a clear cotton cloud and loves to envelop its friends in its soft wings. Constantly singing and humming, this beautiful pokemon has many layers and strengths for a skilled and tactful trainer to tap into.

Thunderbird

Another shiny pick- Shiny Pangoro! Pangoro are proud creatures that dislike when weaker people are being treated unfairly and don't take direction well. They use the leaf in their mouth to sense the movements of their opponents, but tend to get careless about their own protection in the heat of battle. I think this stubborn but compassionate pokemon fits John to a T. I was going to go with Hawlucha for similar reasoning, but Hawlucha is more of an elegant wrestler than a brawler.

Sunfire

Though these pokemon that usually lives in packs, Houndoom decide the best leader by a show of strength. Their burn is said to be so powerful, that if you are ever a victim of it, you will feel it forever. These Dark/Fire types are usually shown to be enemies in other pokemon media, but I don't think Shiro would let that deter him as they're still quite powerful members of any team with their death-bringing cries and the memento mori they wear on their fur.

Banshee

Exploud may look aggressive, but it's actually a loving and communicative pokemon that only gets really loud in the heat of battle. The rest of the time, it plays soft whistles through the other holes in its body that sound quite playful- especially when paired with its goofy appearance. They are also reliable pokemon that used to be used long ago to communicate between cities. The final stage of evolution, it doesn't have much else to learn or do- but it's a sturdy member of any team.

Magik, Magma, Karma, Sunspot, Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Cypher

Magik

This one was actually harder than I thought- wanted a dragon type initially for obvious reasons, but I went with the fairy type Granbull here instead. It's actually a very timid and misunderstood pokemon that can still pack a punch. I think they'd learn a lot from each other and the image of a tiny Illyana with a little Snubbull is too cute.

Magma

Hisuian Growlithe- a cute but durable pokemon, a staple with a twist- everything I think of when I think of Magma- this fire rock type is still figuring things out but it's no less confident for that.

Karma

Did go with Espeon here for a few different reasons. Psychic powers of course, but it's also a sensitive pokemon that tends to overwork itself and develops a personal bond with its trainer in order to evolve.

Also her brother can have an Umbreon.

Sunspot

A proud Pyroar! Used by rich trainers, they run hot but are curious and loyal pokemon who love to stand up for their friends sometimes with no regard for their own safety. Handling one recklessly can leave you with a bad burn.

Cannonball

One of the few I didn't choose based on powers, he'd probably like/have a Blissey. They level up from friendship, and have a healing ability to clear status conditions which he and his friends could definitely benefit from. Naturally calming and kind hearted- Not a similar power in sight, but definitely a good match.

Wolfsbane

Dusk Form Lycanroc. So many wolf jokes so little time- but also: This form is literally the midpoint between Lycanroc's other two forms, a good balance for Rahne and all she's been through. I also like the cross the rocks in its neck forms as a good image of that, interrupted by the extra protrusion overhead. Claws and the wisdom to use them for good.

Mirage

Another pokemon that learned to overcome two conflicting parts of itself, Farigiraf is a cute and powerful psychic type pokemon with a good blend of physical and status attacks. I was trying to find a bear, but come on- it's literally wearing a helmet made of the thoughts that used to torment it to now protect itself- it's PERFECT.

Cypher

The key for Reuniclus is communication. It can use its psychic abilities to create its long arms it uses to protect itself, but it can also link its hands with others to form psychic bonds with instant communication like neurons firing. It's a hyper intelligent pokemon, but it is super squishy at the end of the day.
