Okay, so, ‘A Conversation with Noel Fielding’ happened!!

First, I want to say I have zero photos of Noel and/or Bobcat. Zero. I debated a little bit with myself about this, and decided to put my phone away as soon as Bobcat came out. I was in the front row and, I just didn’t want to be focusing on my phone rather than the two awesome people in front of me. And, I mean, directly in front of me. We were the two seats closest to the aisle on the right side, front row. Noel was on our side of the stage. Directly. In. front. Of. Me. Just….sorry, I’m letting that sink into my own brain as much as yours…the man was about 10 feet away from me. *dies again*

Moving on….if you’ve checked any social media this afternoon/this evening, you know Noel was rocking the red orson coat. He had the blue sunglasses on as soon as he came out but took them off right away. The shirt wasn’t one i’ve seen before and he left the coat on the whole time. There were waters on the stage for them but you know Noel came out with his can of Coke (with a Santa on it)!

I feel like I need to emphasize the fact that this was a true Q&A, and I am sooooooooo grateful that this was my first experience of seeing him in real life. It was a pure, unscripted, conversation between Noel and Bobcat – to watch him in that setting, just talking, rather than being ‘on’ or in character…just, wow. Really really really grateful for the opportunity to experience that.

Here are some of the things that stick out in my brain, in no particular order (though I’m sure as the processing of the whole thing continues to make my brain fizz and pop, other things will come thru):

He’s goddamn gorgeous, and tiny, and his face really is weirdly large in proportion to the rest of him?

Bobcat told stories that kept making Noel’s jaw drop, with was kind of hilarious. He told a story about an ICP concert that make me laugh so hard, I swear to god I nearly peed myself. He also talked about his friendship with David Bowie, which was lovely and sweet and also really funny. Bobcat mentioned that he thought Noel had met Bowie, because of that one pic, and Noel had to let him know it was a manip made by a fan!

Noel talked a little about Julian, and about how they were at the end of the tour, but he also said there’s a love between them that isn’t going anywhere (and he made the usual ‘we still have a lot of sex’ sort of comments, and about how they live near one another) – he then said that he thinks they’re getting to the point where then can/will work together again

Noel told the story about the party where someone gave the cat acid and then blushed absolutely furiously afterwards because he thought he’d painted his parents in a bad light for having a party when he was little where acid was being used – the urge to cuddle him at that point was strong, I must say

Noel did the dark side of the moon bit from the tour, but he was apprehensive beforehand and asked if any kids were in. Someone from the audience immediately responded ‘no!’ and Noel decided that any kids who had tried to come in had been stopped and tossed in a cupboard, with a freshly shorn Elmo because that’s how Noel made his coat

After that, SO MUCH PENIS TALK  - his penis, rashes after wearing the mirrorball suit(s) for 100 dates, Bobcat’s penis, getting wanked off by Johnny Depp, fucking Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp playing Noel’s multicolored penis…just, so. much. penis talk.

There was a lot of talk about puppets? That seems to be a running theme during the press he’s been doing this week which is awesome. Bobcat got right in on it talking about Bowie doing Labyrinth. Apparently Bobcat asked him how filming was going about halfway through, and Bowie answered – “its fucking puppets,” which led to Noel and Bobcat impersonating Bowie making more comments about working with the puppets.

HE TWIRLED HIS HAIR. there was lots and lots of playing with and running his hand thru his hair, culminating in the twirling. i might have been mesmerized for a bit when that happened (i mean, more than i already was)

He talked about Mike and how funny he is without even trying, which was sweet

He talked about Rich a fair bit too, including a story about how when they were doing stage shows Rich played David Bowie and tried to lure Vince into a bush. Apparently he would say the weirdest shit, including, one time, the line ‘I’m standing on a lozenge’ to try and get Vince into the bush – Noel commented that every time he saw Bowie he heard Rich, doing Bowie’s voice, saying ‘I’m standing on a lozenge’ (this was probably funnier if you were there to hear the voice, but I loved hearing a story that was new, at least to me!)

Bobcat totally mooned the audience. Just, turned around and showed his ass…Noel could take a page out of that book, I think we would have been cool with it?

Noel was absolutely beautiful and genuine with the audience members who asked questions! He was thoughtful and funny and I’m kicking myself a bit for not hopping in the line to ask something – I probably would have sounded delirious and forgotten how to speak.

Again, I’m sure there’s more….i’m just on this fluffy, pink cloud of wonder that I never want to leave!!

i saw this post earlier about therapists and it reminded me of my old therapist paul, who in my opinion is one of the greatest men alive and who did not put up with my bullshit for even one second

anyway i go in to see paul one week in the summer of 2016, and i’m doing my usual bullshit which consists of me talking shit about myself, and paul is staring at me, and then he cuts me off and says that he’s got a new tool for helping people recognize when they’re using negative language, and gets up and goes over to his desk

and i’m like alright hit me with that sweet sweet self-help article my man, because i’m a linguistic learner and whenever paul’s like here i have a tool for you to use it’s pretty much always an article or a book or something

paul opens a drawer, takes something out, and turns back around. i stare.

i say, paul.

is that a nerf gun.

yeah, says paul.

i say, are you gonna shoot me with a nerf gun in this professional setting.

he happily informs me that that’s really up to me, isn’t it. and sits back down. and gestures, like, go ahead, what were you saying?

and i squint suspiciously and start back up about how i’m having too much anxiety to leave the house to run errands, like it was a miracle to even get here, like i’ve forgone getting groceries for the past week and that’s so stupid, what a stupid issue, i’m an idiot, how could i–

a foam dart hits me in the leg.

i go, hey! because my therapist just shot me in the leg. paul blinks at me placidly and raises an eyebrow. i squint again.

i say, slowly, it’s– not a stupid issue, i’m not stupid, but it’s frustrating me and i don’t want it to be a problem i’m having.

no dart this time. okay. sweet.

so the rest of the hour passes with me intermittently getting nailed with tiny foam darts and then swearing and then fixing my language and, wouldn’t you know it, i start liking myself a little more by the end of the session, which is mildly infuriating because paul can tell and he’s very smug about it 

anyway i leave his office and the lady having the next appointment walks in and i hear what’s all over the floor? and paul very seriously says cognitive behavioral therapy tools.

#CBT is my jam and I love this #I may steal it if I ever leave my current place #taking a break from regularly scheduled programming
