JULY 7, 1940 Ringo Starr is born “Ringo is Ringo, that’s all there is to it. And he’s every bloody bit as warm, unassuming, funny, and kind as he seems. He was quite simply the heart of the Beatles.“ — John Lennon

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN WINSTON LENNON!
(born October 9, 1940)
"The first week in October brought an escalation of the bombing, according to newspaper accounts, wave after wave of German sorties strafing the south docks and downtown district. Still, when Mimi called the hospital on October 9, shortly after nightfall, and was told that “Mrs. Lennon has just had a boy,” nothing—neither curfew nor bomb nor German technology—was going to stop her from gazing at her new nephew. Later, Mimi gave an intrepid, if somewhat suspect, account of her crosstown sprint: “I was dodging in doorways between running as fast as my legs would carry me.” In the distance she could hear the thunderous echo of bombs pounding the countryside. “There was shrapnel falling and gunfire,” she recalled, “and when there was a little lull I ran into the hospital ward and there was this beautiful little baby.”
John Winston Lennon was a beautiful little baby, indeed. He was named after his talented grandfather in the hope that he could fulfill the Lennon legacy for stardom. (Julia offered the middle name in honor of his country’s awe-inspiring leader, Winston Churchill.) His eyes were perfectly matched brown crescents set above a feminine, almost bow-shaped mouth, a pointed little nose, and the soft, dimpled chin of his father. He had his mother’s fair complexion, which, later in life, made him look a shade or two paler in contrast to the other Beatles. "

Mandalay
(22/2/2021)
CW // police brutality, army brutality, death, raids, gunshots, abductions
There is currently a very intense battle going on in Mandalay, the second-largest city in Burma, after the Burmese security forces [which is under the military regime] attempted to raid a base of the People’s Defence Force [which is under the legitimate government] over there. Tanks are roaming the streets. The military has blocked roads and are shooting indiscriminately, injuring and killing civilians. They [meaning the military] are storming hospitals and schools. They are arbitrarily arresting civilians. They are using heavy weapons such as rocket-propelled grenades against the lightly armed defence force and civilians. Despite all that, they have called for reinforcements on their side. Please keep Mandalay and Burma in your thoughts.

The situation in Burma is still very tense
CW // death, fire, police brutality, army brutality
The ‘Burmese security forces’ burned down churches and are trapping people that they displaced in Karenni state.
The ‘Burmese security forces’ burned down an entire village in Magway division, killing some of the elderly in the village by burning them alive.
They are still arresting people in broad daylight.
Please keep an eye on what’s happening in Burma.

Update (4/6/21): So… there was an hour-long internet shutdown today (preceded by shitty connection). I’ve been out of the loop for quite a while now. But please don’t forget us.
Tumblr media
This is an (unverified) ad for Intranet, a private network that can only be accessed by authorised users. At first glance, this doesn’t sound too alarming, but this comes at the heels of other rumours that the military junta in Burma is pressuring businesses to import all their data onto local servers and that soon enough, there would only be a bunch of authorised apps available — cutting us all off from the outside world.
Mind you, the previous military regime in Burma has also done something akin to this, allowing little to none access to the internet back in the 2000s. We don’t want it to happen again this time.
They are taking us back to the dark ages.
If this rumour is, God forbid, true, please keep an eye on what’s happening in Burma.
