Chapter 16 is up!
Summary:
The gravelly voice at Sam’s shoulder knocks him out of his mental self-flagellations. He clears his throat, straightening slightly. “Ehrm, yes Mr. President.” The leader of the free world squints his impossibly cerulean eyes in the direction of Sam’s brother, and Sam’s professionally trained mind automatically notes that they linger on Dean just a millisecond too long for a supposed stranger who claims to have only met him mere hours ago. “The prior episode was significantly shorter, as I recall.” Sam bites down a smile at Castiel Milton’s formal, carefully articulated manner of speaking. Politicians. Still, the emotion twitching just at the corner of the President’s mouth belies something stronger than a proprietary level of concern for one of his constituents.

I don't even attend this school, but I did sit in on the class last night and what a seriously gorgeous way to tell a story about someone who is bi and who is percieved as straight because of assumptions the audience makes. Is there ANYTHING more relatable for a bi person? I literally started a new job and want desperately to be seen but people are almost certainly assuming I'm straight because of the gender of my spouse.
The episode last night wasn't an left turn from prior characterization. It was the natural arc for a character who has been connecting with and experiencing attraction and feelings for more than one gender (apparently since season one per the article I read).
There is something affirming specifically about a story where a character is percieved straight by the audience (including queer fans who have been screaming queerbait under the assumption he's straight tbh) is revealed to be bi. Not in some huge OH MY GOD crisis moment (which may happen and I'm here for that later), but in a scene where his flirting with a man comes to a natural conclusion of a date and a kiss.
The story has done something beautiful. It's said (in the words of Misha Collins) "you're not crazy" and (in the words of Mark Hamill)  "If you think [he's] gay, of course he is."
What a gorgeous affirmation of subtext. What a beautiful illustration of the experience of being presumed straight. CHEF'S FUCKING KISS and I am popping bottles for all my besties.
Which unfortunately brings me to the fucking discourse on my timeline. I am not a fan of comparing queer media. I think it's a bullshit practice. Enjoy the stories and shows you love and shut the fuck up about other shows is my motto.
But if we MUST and we apparently always must: Bi Buck isn't some loss for Bi Dean Winchester or other queer headcanons. It's a fucking win. Because this story says from its soul: the subtext is real. The interpretation is valid. He was bi the entire time. You don't have to be part of the audience that presumes a character is straight. You can lean into those interpretations because they are valid and real.
Discourse over, I again want to scream about how happy I was to witness that with my friends who are fans. An absolutely gorgeous bit of storytelling and a rich and beautiful win for the list of canon bi (and a man which is rarer) characters. I am consensually kissing you all on the lips this morning.

Chapter 15 is up!
Summary:
“Are you feeling lightheaded?” Cas asks, worry rising in his chest. “Not at all!” Dean’s response is terse, his tone slightly higher in pitch than normal. “Feeling great. Feeling good. How are you?” Cas stares back at him in confusion, and Dean drags a hand across his forehead. “Maybe I am a little bit lightheaded. It’s not every day you get patched up by the President.” “Don’t worry about that right now,” Cas replies - in part because he’d also prefer not to be reminded of his position and the role it’s played in their entire dynamic, unbeknownst to the man he’s currently ‘patching up.’ “Pretend I’m a doctor instead, if that makes things feel less strange.” “A doctor, eh? Okay, Doctor Sexy.” Dean’s mouth immediately snaps shut as Cas’ own eyebrows dart to the top of his forehead. “I - let's pretend I didn’t just say that. Maybe I’m delirious. Probably running a fever. There a thermometer in that kit?” His words again give Cas pause for real concern, and he holds two fingers up to Dean’s forehead, hesitant to cover more skin than that with his touch for the sake of whatever proprietary measures they actually have left. Dean’s face flushes bright red.

Strip clubs aren't the only business that runs on daddy issues. Welcome to the Den of Iniquity, the premiere brothel in Port Charles, where you can get service with a smile and a hell of a show - but the main attraction is Dean Winchester, a saucy and sassy courtesan hiding his family tragedies and shattered literary dreams with smooth moves and a give-em-hell attitude. When President Shurley asks his formerly estranged son Cas to go undercover at the Den, he's less than equipped for success - down to his desperate cover story that he's a playwright despite knowing nothing about writing. However, he finds himself significantly more enthusiastic after he meets Dean - who harbors a deep poet's soul beneath the surface of his glitzy work persona. They awaken the Muse - and each other, both on and beyond the brothel stage. But Dean and Cas are both harboring secrets that threaten the precarious joy they've managed to find, and external forces in Port Charles may threaten any chance they have at both future and freedom. Will all be lost? Or will the show, as always, go on? Grab your lube, mind the tags, and join us for a spectacular musical journey we're all making up as we go.
It's difficult for me to put a label on this fic, mostly because it wears SO many hats--and it wears them all SO well. It's partially a retelling of Moulin Rouge, partially a retelling of the special children storyline from S2, and partially a retelling of the Mark of Cain storyline, as well as being the ending for Chuck and Amara that we all deserve. (And let's not lie, there are some scenes in this fic that are quite 🌶️ 🌶️ 🌶️)
There are betrayals and twists aplenty in this fic, and several times, it looks as though Dean and Cas have finally figured out the secret to happiness, only to be torn apart yet again. But the angst never devolves into melodrama, and the character choices are always believable (even if you do want to wail with despair because when are these boys just going to be allowed to LOVE EACH OTHER?!?!). Dean and Cas find and lose each other over and over throughout the fic, but they always maintain their profound bond with each other.
I always love fics where you can see Dean and Cas falling in love, and this fic definitely delivers. Some of my favorite scenes are the quiet ones where Dean and Cas are working on their play together--you can FEEL them falling in love, and it's absolutely wonderful.
There are dozens of supporting characters and subplots, including folks from The Winchesters (but if you haven't watched the show, no worries! You don't need to have seen it to understand the plot), and the ending will keep you guessing up until the last second. This fic is a long one, so make sure that you clear enough time from your schedule to read, since you won't want to get up once you've started reading!

Chapter 14 is up!
Summary:
Cas wonders if Dick is truly obtuse enough to think his words carried such weight that Cas is going to cut Dean out of the equation right then and there. He supposes, in some manners - that’s exactly what he’s doing, at least when it comes to the formula of their personal relationship. Removing any variable that leads to the possibility of Cas being with Dean as an outcome. Zero-sum game. Crowley is watching Cas with nascent curiosity, for once seeming surprised instead of satisfied with what’s presently unfolding. Cas’ eyes drop back to Dean’s. He looks puzzled, but something shifts slightly in his expression when their gazes connect. It’s only incremental, but Cas swears Dean’s eyes grow just a smidge warmer. That doesn’t matter. They’ll be filled with hate for him soon enough. Cas opens his mouth, prepared to come clean.
