Which made him feel even worse, because if that was the case, then Penelope had been interesting and lovely and kissable years ago, and he hadn't the maturity to notice. Julia Quinn, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton

There was something quite humbling in feeling nervous about seeing Penelope. Penelope was Penelope. It was almost as if she'd always been there, smiling politely at the perimeter of a ballroom. And he'd taken her for granted, in a way. Some things didn't change, and Penelope was one of them. Julia Quinn, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton
I need to see these men HUMBLED by their future wives so bad every time a sentence goes like this my heart does the !!!

He's a good man, that Anthony Bridgerton." Penelope nodded. "His wife told me that that was the day she fell in love with him. When she saw him being my hero." Julia Quinn, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton

Penelope gasped. "Oh, don't look so shocked. It's written all over your face. I'm just surprised he hasn't noticed." "I imagine he has," Penelope mumbled. "Has he? Hmmph." Lady Danbury frowned, the corners of her mouth spilling into long vertical wrinkles on either side of her chin. "Doesn't speak well of him that he hasn't done anything about it."

DOESN'T SPEAK WELL OF HIM THAT HE HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT

Ten Questions Book Review - Foul Heart Huntsman by Chloe Gong
What is it? Can one immortal girl survive the Japanese invasion of China and also get her fake husband to gain his memories back and actually maybe marry her for real this time?
Who should read it and why? Read this if you've read Foul Lady Fortune, if you like annoyances to lovers or friends to lovers, if you think that straight men should learn to fucking speak about their feelings, and if you think that little girls should be extremely weird at times.
Which genre(s) is it? Historical fantasy.
What is the setting? 1930s, Shanghai.
How are the characters? At the end of this series I am absolutely loving everyone. I didn't think it would happen, but I love them all. The Lang sisters (Alisa is an honorary third sister) really are the best.
What are the strengths and weaknesses of the novel? At this point in the series, the characters are really shining through. Another thing I appreciated, more than in the previous novels, are the plot twists. And I always love the commentary on colonization and imperialism that shines through this series. However, I feel like things were a bit rushed towards the end; I could have read a few more pages, and the action could have stretched out a bit more.
Did I cry and/or laugh? Both, absolutely. And I mostly blame Orion and Oliver for this.
Who shouldn’t read the book? There's a lot of blood and violence in this series, so it would be more than understandable to not read this if it's not your jam.
Any random comment? The only beef I could ever have with Chloe Gong might be solved by the use of a better editor. Why why why are we using 2020s lexicon and concepts in the 1930s... it just distracts me so much from the plot T.T
Which quote stuck with me?
"Even if the memories never come back," he said slowly, "I'm going to love you again. I have decided to warn you in advance."

Dear Reader- It is with a surprisingly sentimental heart that I write these words. After eleven years of chronicling the lives and times of the beau monde, This Author is putting down her pen. Julia Quinn, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton
My honest reaction was closing and opening the book twice because I could not BELIEVE

You can’t win as a woman in fiction. Be too positive, you become a Mary Sue, have flaws and those flaws are why almost nobody likes you. Be moderate, you have wet-cabbage personality, be exuberant, you are an unrealistic example. Have strong morals, and you’re badly developed, be morally corrupt and you’re hated with such vigour fans will send hate mail to the actress who plays the character. Be kind and soft and in love, you’re a representation of sexism, be cruel, harsh and cold and you’re just a bitch. Be a complex, realistic, ambiguous character, and either your flaws or your positive traits will be ignored or blown out of proportion and into oblivion. There is no winning for female characters.
