this is one of my favorite kagehina moments ever, i think it shows A LOT of character development as kageyama is the one who takes the initiative and lifts his hand to a fist bump. meanwhile hinata is with stars in his eyes thinking about them playing together the next day, and he simply smiles at kags words when he says: "we're going to win tomorrow." 🧡

they just understand each other so so SO MUCH 🥹

something something kindaichi saying kageyama doesn't care about his teammates and just uses them based on what they have to offer

but that's also how kageyama feels about himself

the implication is that kageyama doesn't believe he has worth outside of what he can do for others. he's not friends with anyone on the team but they have to interact somehow in order to play so he compensates by working really hard to be good at volleyball, because then they'll need him to Do Stuff For Them (aka play the game)

this could also cue in to his behavior at the start of the series when he said he's like. an invaluable asset because he has talent and skill. at first glance, it sounds like he's being arrogant, but it could also be him trying to convince himself that he could be wanted, just wanted for what he can give them, because there's no hope for wanting any other part of him

I think… everyone was surprised. But we weren’t. In a battle lasting 0.1 seconds, it was only these two who didn’t waver even a millimetre at the twins’ insanely fast back attack. Speed is a very, very strong weapon. It’s very charming and cool. But it’s not invincible. They knew that a little better than everyone else.

Having Ukai say that Kageyama’s extraordinary so others might have a hard time nitpicking him and then immediately following that up with Hinata criticizing Kageyama is just …wow does Furudate not fuck around with showing that these two are soulmates

It’s a very blatant ‘yeah, most other people can’t match him BUT hinata can”.

(because they’re perfect rivals and allies, constantly pushing each other to be better in a way no one else can, a volleyball match made in heaven, etc etc.)

Still on my hq rewatch, and I forgot just how touching Hinata’s whole “let kageyama be the king again” speech was. Like, Kageyama snaps at Asahi and the pure, naked fear on his face is enough to make your heart break for him, ya know, cuz he’s still afraid his teammates will drop him if he’s too much and then Hinata, who’s always at odds with Kageyama, just swoops in and not only diffuses the tension within seconds, but defends Kageyama and I swear, I’m never getting over these two.
