Dead.
✩. “ Ah, I assure you, stranger-san, that I am quite alive ! ” Brook replied cheerfully, a bit caught off guard by the suddenness of it, but unperturbed by the question itself. If there was anything his time as a rock-star had done for him, it was accustoming him to such inquiries.
“ Plenty alive to feel the sun on my skin, not that I have any skin on my bones, yohohoho ! ” he laughed brightly, tucking his cane under his arm as he tilted his head down in greeting towards the unfamiliar person, “ Although to answer you question, for over fifty years, if that satisfies your curiosity ? ”
Ah. Denial, but in a humorous way. Shown true in someone very aware of the timeframe, it was simply...entertaining in a way. Part of Loki had the inclination to believe this skeleton was simply an entertaining more than any threat--a toy as opposed to a weapon. They wonder if anyone had tried to play with him before? Not that it mattered much...Hand pressed below their chin as they looked up at down Brook, observing every segment, bone, set of clothes. Did he fit in this environment?
--A foolish question, nothing seemed to fit or make sense in this world, so annoyingly. Then again, did it fit in their time? No, no, but at least there was consistency. The consistency of discovery, of new.
“ fifty years, hm? i believe that is well enough an answer for me. what a curious stranger, you are...are you a musician? a traveler? a pirate? ”

I will always enjoy that Loki is so unapologetically an asshole.

--rotates in my brain how loki managed to master both rokushiki and their devil fruit despite despising their devil fruit and being raised in rokushiki because their father wanted the ruthless training to kill them.

Visit.
a visitor? cobra hadn’t mentioned anything about a visitor stopping by. && if she had to take a guess, they weren’t a citizen of alabasta either, the citizens didn’t have to beg for much anymore, which eliminated the reasoning behind a citizen paying visit to the castle.
“ if you don’t mind me asking, what do you mean by saying it’s been awhile since you’ve been here? ” she couldn’t shake the feeling she got from them, it was indescribable. strange. “ my name is princess vivi, i’ve been alabasta’s princess ever since i was born…. can i ask who you are? ”
Princess Vivi, there’s a name to the princess they’ve heard whispers of. They found it quite miraculous, how many things change...and how much stays the same. History would remain a circle, ever repeating, they should never be surprised on this matter. Either way, they were asked a question, why not answer it? They had no reason to lie.
“ miss, i come here every few years-- ” a vast understatement “ --to see how things have changed, how it has stayed the same...perhaps meet the one who stands upon the throne presently, perhaps not. we are all busy people, after all. ”
They supposed half of that was met, wasn’t it? They knew a king still stood at the throne in this time, however. Whether they got that chance...ah, that would be a matter of time.
“ pardon, simply call me lorelei, or loki...it is pleasant to meet your acquaintance, vivi. ”
Loki bowed their head, some subtle meaning of a meeting before letting their gaze lazily cross over the area, a murmur low and dry rumbling past their throat.
“ alabasta has changed quite a bit, more than i would like to admit... ”

They simply let out a sigh before picking up a bottle of booze--some concoction, strong at the smell, meant to get them drunk quickly--before popping open the top. They held it out for the sands, alone yet accompanied by the desert.
" one year closer to another death. "
They poured some in the sand before downing it.

@medicus-mortem asked:
Law drops a chess set down in front of Loki. With a quick Room and a hand gesture the pieces are all put into place. The doctor then settles into the seat across from them, making himself comfortable and leaning on a hand. "You're startin'," he states, gesturing at the pieces. "Oh, and you can keep the chess set when we're done here." [from medicus-mortem, happy birthday Loki! It's already the 2nd on my side of the world!]
The Alabastan sighed, slouching over as they watched the pieces be seemingly automatically placed in their proper spots. Lo, they would have set it up them-self...by hand...but it seemed only proper that a gift from this individual would be done so lazily...excuse them, using his resources.
" how generous. "
They hummed, glancing downward at the chess set, it wasn't a bad one by any means, if anything they would be quite pleased to keep it. Hand scratched away at the scarification along their neck, tapping away in thought to decide a first move. Law wasn't daft, this would be something of an entertaining game, if they had to guess. Loki placed their gambit, moving the pawn forefront of the king forward two spaces.
" your turn. "

palace.
after the war had been resolved, alabasta was restored to it’s former glory. things were finally calm again, there was no threats looming over everyone’s head. but that specific day, something felt different. she’d been on her way to go into the village, when she noticed a strange form standing on the steps of the castle.
caught off guard by their presence, she can’t help but stare. it was rude to stare, she knew that, when they remind her of that, she looks anywhere but at the figure.
“ i’m sorry, i just… haven’t seen you before. && i’m wondering why you’re walking up the palace steps. ”
“ that is not quite suprising. ”
A hum rumbled in their throat, hand moving to wrap around their own throat, lightly rubbing away, a bit of a fiddle or tick as they watched the young woman approach. Not many would know them now, perhaps by name if they were particularly apt in history, at least their full name...Not the little shorthand they had optimized to use.
“ it has been quite a while since i have been here, i was simply visiting, catching up... ”
They had no planned meeting, no...But they hardly needed it. Even if someone came to stop them, it wasn’t likely it would work. Though what a shame it is, to think their own home to be not as powerful as to defend from some invader...Not that they were an invader, no no, they belonged here.
“ are you privy to the inside of this palace? ”

Writing Loki is fun but also a little frustrating :') Mostly because Loki's knowledge bank is...INSANELY EXPANSIVE...they have a lot locked away in that memory of theirs, more than has been explained in the manga yet. Like a lot of the present mysteries, they straight up have answers to them. Writing them know those mysteries is one hell of a balance of making sure not to explicitly say anything while still keeping it clear that they know what's up. It definitely does help that they play by the reality that they are a spectator rather than an influencer. They will help those reach answers, but not directly tell them. Unless they're drunk and bored, it's unlikely for them to simply start spilling knowledge from their throat like wine being offered at a wedding.

@mediicusvitae asked:
Lamy shook a bit of sand out of her shoe as she sat on the ground, brows furrowed together in deep thought. “Say, Loki-san,” she began hesitantly, addressing the figure that lounged in the shadows. “You… know history.” Lamy swallowed, mentally preparing herself for what she was about to ask. “Would you happen to know anything about the Will of D. and those who are said to carry it?...”
Loki remained quiet as they remained leaned against ruinous stone, their gaze low to the ground as it traced the sands, occasionally catching notice to the serpents that seemed to trace the desert before their feet. Drawn to them, perhaps as them; though they were far used to it. For even as a child, did the serpents call for them, speak to them, often speak for them when as a meek child they did nothing more than hold their long body up and hope for defense from venomous fangs.
Lo, all the time they spent in pits meant to kill them, only to befriend the murderous serpents down below till mother or their guardians might find them.
" i do know history, yes... "
One could say they lived history--especially considering it seemed the history they partook in--part of it--was now erased from public's grips. A shame, really...Horrid, how they despised the nature of such action.
Though they could not help but to wonder...would they not do the same? If offered such a chance? A thought they kept to them-self, no need to linger of it.
" ah. the will of d. yes, i am quite aware of it, why might you ask? "

literally loki continues to live based on the idea that they are the spectator, the revived immortal. they are a god in their own eyes, even if they are one that can die. it is not like 'gods' are always immortal, they are above humanity, yes, but even them pass onto the field of grain when their time has concluded. if nature so wanted them to be brought back, then despite their bitterness they would not waste it completely...
