me: the idea is that you basically have someone really smart and well-informed who's talking to basically a straw man that they can bounce ideas off to help you make your point

me: but the weird thing is that changing people's minds usually doesn't work that easily in real life. people who disagree and want to argue with you will have their own opinions, usually strongly held, that are often based on whatever they heard first, no matter how trustworthy that information is. and people are very resistant to changing their opinions. it's not just a matter of facts and logic but rather engaging with the other person's concerns and trying to get your point across in a way they understand. a socratic dialog basically dumbs down this process to the point it's no longer useful as a guide for talking to people about specific issues

I recently had surgery, and at the time I came home, I had both my cat and one of my grandma's cats staying with me.

- Within hours of surgery, I wake up from a nap to my cat gently sniffing at my incisions with great alarm.

- I was not allowed to shower the first day after surgery, and the cats, seeing that The Large Cat is not observing its cleaning ritual, decided I must be gravely disabled and compensated by licking all the exposed skin on my arms, face, and legs.

- I currently have to sleep with a pillow over my abdomen because my cat insists on climbing on top of me and covering my incisions with her body while I sleep (which is very sweet but not exactly comfortable without the pillow). She also lays across me facing my bedroom door, presumably on guard for attackers who may try to harm me while I'm sleeping and injured.

hey i've been like pretty low on money the last few months, which has generally been surprisingly fine (though definitely stressful) but i'm now at a point where it's potentially about to get difficult. while im excited to finally about to be debt free i currently also have an open bill for legal fees im late on that's almost an entire months worth of my current regular income (which is only around 800-1000 USD).

any donations on my ko-fi (and especially monthly subscriptions) would help me tremendously with getting over this hump next month and allow for me to continue and expand my work (the big article im working is already like 3 months of work by two people and over a hundred dollars in expenses).

i get the gentle healer trope completely like i understand the appeal fo a character who drains themself for the sake of others of a character who is self sacrificing to the nth degree who dedicates their life to saving people, often at their own expense.

but also clerics are fucking crazy man especially clerics of death and the grave and stuff. i love clerics who cause more damage than they heal who can't touch without harming clerics whose blood runs necrotic and whose gods gifts are acid and poison and violence - not even evil clerics. people who are sworn to the dark and distasteful aspects of service, who perform their tasks with filthy hands, bloodstained faith.

people who are so devoted to their god they take on the things no one else is willing to do, who sacrifice their own innocence and their own peace in the name of faith.
