People are always rebranding themselves. In all aspects of life. Spa days. Plastic surgery. Health and wealth seminars. Self-help books. Psychiatric services. Tele-Evangelists. Starting a new school or job. If people complain about her authenticity, they need to look at themselves in the mirror. We all act one way: in the words of Joker: put on a smile. We all (a lot, for the literal haters)relish the chance to start fresh. Clean slate. Second first impressions.

honestly I’ve been dealing with this authenticity issue since I was a teen. I am 22 year old now thinking about how I have been hating on everything ‘fake’ during like the previous decade or so and how it ultimately influenced my self-perception, self-respect and everything else with self-

this is nothing else than a tiring process of soul-searching where you judge on things and people and their behaviour thinking how it’s good to see mostly bad and negative stuff about them, being ~analitycal~ towards the world around, so you can prevent yourself from behaving in the same way. except you’re not. I am just transferring the things I don’t like onto my persona extending the hate and making myself miserable, not prepared to the same judgments from others.

I doubt a lot, like myself, my motives, appearance and it goes the same way for the people I encounter. to the point I guess that it turns into toxicity.

I recall when I fell out with my best friend years ago. I was frustrated and even more so when we tried to get on track it just didn’t work out. she changed, I thought, I’m being my true self though. but wtf? the fact that you move on healthily adjusting your personality to the changes surrounding you is probably perfectly fine. people get older, look for something, imitate, fail and try again. I’m soooo stuck on my true self, whatever it is. now I realize it is not integrity, it is either fear to lose something I never had or fixation on a stupid idea that each transformation is a lie in relation to the previous order of things.

finally I’d really like to have the guts to become somebody I roll my eyes upon, and not care about it

So hello back, H&M

Just wanted to hop in and write how I’m feeling now. I’m sad because the place where I was applying for a job turned me down.

I can’t say I wasn’t prepared for it, but I hoped I would be able to change my current job at H&M. The job which actually devastates me even more than this recent rejection.

Yeah, each downturn feels like a snowslide for me. I am paralysed afterwards. Putting up with the idea that I am hardly needed anywhere blows my mind and feeds my existential fear (could I sound more dramatic?). This idea is not exactly true, I know. It’s all part of the search of my place under the sun. Sometimes, I am worried I just don’t have enough energy and potential to find it. Each year it’s harder to dream of future and hope for the best. I barely enjoy doing anything. Plus, I’m tired of constant state of “figuring out”.

The only thing I know today is that nothing lasts forever! I will honestly keep trying because I know no other way. Now I’ll go back to watching “The Witcher” with a cup of hot,hot tea and forgetting about myself for a little moment.

________________________  I enjoyed this movie, it just made me feel emotionally comfortable. All of the characters seemed down-to-earth to me, but in a good way. And even a person officially designated as pope may doubt himself and his mission in this complicated world.

In an interesting coincidence, my film class watched Habemus Papam today.

My film professor lives in the countryside in Fiesole and was snowed in, so we watched the designated backup film for such an occasion. Another Nanni Moretti film, Habemus Papam (We Have a Pope) is more lighthearted than La stanza del figlio. It deals with the story of a reluctant pope who is elected but struggles with the responsibility of his position.

The other cardinals of the conclave try a number of things to help the chosen pope recover from his anxiety, including hiring a psychoanalyst (Moretti) to talk him into addressing the faithful. There are a number of funny moments, but there is also a poignancy in the story of a tired and confused old man.

The earnestness and almost childlike nature of the other cardinals and the nuns is very endearing, and the Pope in this film is certainly more of a  sympathetic character than Benedict would be. It does not make too much of a relevant commentary on the actual state of Catholicism or of the current pope but the story is a sweet one and brings up some questions (albeit not too controversial ones) about the nature of faith.
