Pokeshipping Week 2020 - November 1st to November 7th

The people have spoken! The themes for Pokeshipping Week 2020 are:

Day 1: If Ash was aware of his feelings for Misty during their journeys together

Day 2: Aged-up characters declaring love during the Johto Journeys

Day 3: Misty in Pokémon Journeys

Day 4: Pikachu protecting Misty

Day 5: First times

Day 6: Touch

Day 7: Ash vs. Misty in the Pokémon World Championships/World Coronation Series

Each day’s theme can be interpreted through whatever fanwork medium you like, in any combination - whether that’s fiction, art, analysis, edits, AMVs, you name it!

You can choose how much you contribute, whether that’s the whole week, or just a theme or two. Any contribution, big or small, and regardless of skill, is absolutely welcome! This is not a competition at all, so please don’t feel you have to be ‘good enough’ to participate. The point here is to have fun and celebrate Ash and Misty!

Three free days to choose your own theme will be available! If you’re not feeling a day’s theme, you can substitute in anything of your choosing, as long as it’s Pokeshipping-related. (Just mention that you’re using a free day in the tags or before your entry, so we know to include it!)

Every eligible work created and posted to Tumblr, DeviantART or Twitter will be reblogged here to spotlight them. Tag your work as “Pokeshipping Week” when you post each day, and make sure that that’s within the first five tags, so that we can find your post! Please make sure to use that exact tag, so we won’t have to comb through a million different variations.

We will also be accepting submissions on AO3 to our official collection! For those of you who upload your fanfics and fanart (and other assorted works) to AO3, you can add them directly to the collection when you upload your piece by putting “pokeshippingweek2020” in the “Post to Collections/Challenges” field. If you don’t have an AO3 account and would like one, just send us an ask above with your e-mail address, and we’ll get you set up.

Entries that contain character bashing won’t be reblogged or added to the collection.

Tbh I’ve always been weary of shipping Naminé and Roxas just because they barely have any interaction or development together but upon further review I take it all back because 👏🏻 NAMINÉ WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN ROXAS’ SHORT LIFE THAT WAS COMPLETELY HONEST WITH HIM 👏🏻

I love the Sea Salt Trio but communication was absolutely not their strong suit—Axel lied to him, Xion never told him the whole truth. The Organization generally was using him and kept him in the dark. Screw DiZ generally. Riku never exactly did him a favor. But Naminé? Naminé went OUT OF HER WAY, got herself IN TROUBLE with DiZ to explain it to Roxas. And was honest with him EVEN WHEN IT HURT (“You were never supposed to exist.”).

SO MUCH of Roxas’ existence was him agonizing over who he was and what was happening to him and no one would give him straight answer. When he left the Organization, Roxas told Axel he’d trust the person that gave him some answers and Naminé was that person. Naminé is the only person that has yet to let Roxas down and now I’m going down with this ship.

So, finally sat down and got myself up to date with umbrella academy (started the first season when it came out but never finished it cuz spoilers), and I only got one thing to say

Why is everyone constantly bitching about Five? Look I know he can be an asshole, but like- BOI IS TRYING TO SAVE THE WORLD! Can't we worry about relationship problems after the fate of the human race isn't hanging in the balance?

As in previous years, we’ll be celebrating with a week of themes to get your creativity running. Each day will feature a theme (such as battling, fishing, alternate universes, etc) for our participants to interpret through whatever fanwork medium they like - whether that’s fiction, art, analysis, edits, AMVs; you name it! You can choose to go for the whole week, or do just a theme or two as you like. Any contribution, big or small, and regardless of skill, is welcome! We’re all here to have fun and celebrate these twerps together.

Every eligible work created and posted to Tumblr or Twitter (and very possibly elseweb) will be reblogged here to spotlight them, and we’ll be adding works posted to AO3 to our official collection, too!

But even though we’re still far out from the week, it’s time to put your thinking caps on - we’ve got to get some themes chosen, first! And just to give you all a little bit more time to work on your entries, we’re getting this rolling a week earlier than usual.

Starting August 24th (that’s tomorrow!) through the 28th, we’ll be accepting theme suggestions for the week on this blog, and we’ll be opening up the floor to you to vote on our final themes from August 31st to September 6th. Keep in mind that not every theme suggestion submitted will make it through to the final list. We’re going to consolidate any themes that are duplicates or very similar to one another, we’ll be taking off anything that’s a repeat from a previous year (here’s a handy-dandy list of what those were), and we won’t accept anything that’s negative towards other characters.

Hi! I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in, as I've only seen season 0. I've seen the first few episodes of the normal Yugioh series and couldn't get into it(I'm not into the card games concept, the card game episodes in the season 0 series bored me too. Just not my cup of tea). So basically this is all coming from someone who has no context for any other series, and I thought that might be able to add a new perspective?

I'm a huge Peachshipper. But I also like Revolutionshipping, only in concept though... Until I had watched a couple episodes from the seasons excluding S0, I had been under the impression the Pyramid amulet just created this alternate personality in Yugi. So I was chill with the concept of Revolutionshipping since I just thought it was another version of Peachshipping.

I don't think Anzu purely has a crush on Yugi, it seemed like to me she deeply cared for him but never considered him a romantic option until Atem appeared. To her he was just Yugi suddenly acting more, confident and ambitious. I think she found that attractive and liked to see Yugi having a little self confidence. From where I'm standing, Anzu in her mind has a crush on Yugi but doesn't realize it's on Atem. I don't think she's being toxic, I think she just didn't know.

Like I said though, only watched season 0. So I guess my perspective might be a bit flawed? Dunno. I just can't see Anzu as being so flawed it could be considered abusive in any way.

Might just be me. I hope I was able to add something interesting to the discussion.

Whenever I talk about Yugi and Tea being together please be aware that I don’t mean Anzu, or any version of season 0/Japanese sub Anzu. Please keep her the hell away from Yugi because not only does she fail to see him as his own person, but the relationship would be inherently toxic for him, as he would be put in the position in which he was attempting to be someone else to please her. 

We’ve seen get himself hurt to please other people, and that’s just a very abusive trope. gi.

What the 4kds Dub did for Tea was give her a character that doesn’t revolve around Yugi, but also respects both he and Atem as their own person, and isn’t trying to put one over the other. She genuinely likes them both and never prefers one of the other. 

Anything less than that is incredibly abusive, and the reason I roll my eyes when I see Anzu or any reference to her season 0 counterpart being shipped with Yugi.
