“Tristan had the feeling of being watched. He brushed it aside, of course there were many birds and animals in the woods, they were the prey he was currently hunting after all. But the feeling continued to swell, it became more uncomfortable and overwhelming. He felt that he was instead the one being hunted, a helpless mouse in the grasp of a predator. Unnerved, he carefully monitored his surroundings as he made his way to leave the woods earlier than he normally would. His usually disciplined trigger finger was forced instinctively to his collar, pulling and scratching at the cloth there, the feeling of claws digging into his throat burned his flesh.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught the glimpse of a creature he had never seen before. A shadowy figure.

And it's terrifying wings.

He froze. It was gone in the blink of an eye. Perhaps it was his mind playing tricks on him, his paranoia from that feeling of being stalked. Regardless, the idea had been planted in his head and it's presence was not reassuring. He bolted in the other direction, throwing any previous notion of caution to the wind. His only goal was to get out. He narrowly avoided tripping on overgrown roots and slamming into trees. Finally breaking past the treeline, he stopped for breath. He looked back and watched the forest for several minutes, before finally walking away.

By that night, although the feeling of immediate danger was gone, his mind still raced with questions about what he saw. As the days went on, he couldn't stop thinking about it. Finally, he resigned himself to his fate and entered the library, hoping to find some answer there. This wasn’t normally his style, he was a man of action, not research. Regardless, he scoured every page of every book he could, yet was still no closer to any answer. He huffed, slamming the cover shut and making his way to the armory instead. His fingers graced his trusted bow. He donned his quiver and he knew his mind was made.

He was going to find that creature. Research be damned.

Day after day he hunted. And day after day, things felt... normal. Nothing was amiss. Seasons passed and nothing had changed. He was starting to feel silly but reassured, the entire thing had all been in his head. He shook his head and chuckled at his foolishness. He paused, and as his eyes opened, his brow furrowed and his smile faded. His blood ran cold. The hair on the back of his neck stood up. He had that same feeling of being watched.

He found it.

He pressed against a tree for cover. He took a deep breath and steadied his arm, aiming his bow. He narrowed his eyes in determination, this was the moment he had been waiting for. He quickly turned from behind the tree to ambush the creature.

The vision that stood before him was not what he was expecting, but chilled him worse than any nightmare.

The form of a beautiful young woman with flowing white hair, and dark eyes that saw right through his soul.

And it's terrifying wings.“
