What uncommon/common fear do they have? Loss of independence/control. Becoming anything like her mother.

Do they have any pet peeves? People that are liars, users, or manipulators.

What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom? Cozy mystery books, self-help books, luxury bedding, and candles.

What do they notice first in a person? Their body language and their eyes. Especially true with men. Like many women, she wants to know if she needs to be on the defense.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance? Maybe a 7?

Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure? It varies according to circumstances. She will usually stand her ground in a confrontation unless she feels it's dangerous.

Do they come from a big family/are they a family person? Growing up, it was just her and her mother. She wants a large family with at least four children.

What animal represents them best? A chameleon. As a former actress, fitting in and becoming someone else was essential.

What is a smell that they dislike? Menthol cigarettes. It's what her mother smoked.

Have they broken any bones? Both pinkie toes at various times.

How would a stranger likely describe them? Confident and charming. Again, former actress.

Are they a night owl or a morning bird? By nature, a night owl. But she's learning to become a morning bird.

What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love? She hates ketchup. If you drizzle them on French fries, she will not eat a single one. She love cilantro as much as her husband hates it.

Do they have any hobbies? Hiking, fishing, and reading. She's learning to knit and cross-stitch, but it leads to a lot of cursing and rage quitting.

Boom, surprise birthday party! How do they react to surprises? Good surprises = happy & enthusiasm. Bad surprises = unhappy Gemma.

Do they like to wear jewelry? Yes: earrings, necklaces, rings, and on occasions, bracelets.

Do they have neat or messy handwriting? Tidy, except for autographs.

What are two emotions they feel the most? Enthusiastic and intrigued

Do they have a favorite fabric? Denim or linen.

What kind of accent do they have? She doesn't have an accent. As a trained actress, elocution lessons sorted that. But if she's very tired or drunk, the Del Sol Valley accent comes out.

Gemma: I’m pretty open-minded.

Branson: The elder said some decisions we make are so big they change the trajectory of our lives. Most people might think about these things through the years. However, a few can see their alternate life or timeline in dreams. They are called alteravita dreams.

Gemma: So, what we are dreaming - could have been our reality if we’d made different decisions?

Branson: Yeah, pretty much.

Gemma: Okay.

Branson: Okay?

Gemma: (thoughtfully) Yeah, it makes sense. I mean, it’s still weird as hell, though. So, why are we dreaming now? Is there a trigger?

Branson: There can be a trigger. Sometimes, it might be an event, place, or someone you see. Before the first dream, we met and realized we saw each other as kids. This last time, it was Karli’s birthday.

Gemma: Does that mean you’re triggering the dream?

Branson: I guess so. Have you ever had these types of dreams before?

Gemma: Nah, I rarely dream at all, and…

Branson: And?

Gemma: Bran, I think I’ve had dreams like this before, as a child.

Branson: Can you remember anything about them?

Gemma: Not really, but I remember having them and being punished when I mentioned them to my mother.

Branson: You don’t recall any details?

Gemma: My father. I think they were about my father.

Branson: What do you know about your father?

Gemma: Nothing. My mother went apeshit if I asked about him.

My morning proffee. It's tasty. It's easy. It keeps me going until lunch. 🥤

Friendships. Old friends (decades-old), new friends, and friends I haven't met yet. Sometimes friendships are for a purpose and/or for a season. Sometimes they are meant to endure, and I'll be sending them inappropriate jokes when I'm ninety-five. 🤭

Kindness. When my fave boba shop was sold, the new owner created a new menu. I lamented that I would miss my fave drink. She still had the ingredients and made it for me. Months later she is still making my off-menu drink exactly the way I like it. 🥰

Reading. Letters make words. Words create stories. Stories create adventures and worlds that I can immerse myself in. Bonus: my fictional boyfriends are smoking hot! 😏🔥

Familial love. Last weekend, my four-year old granddaughter flashed me the biggest smile and said, "You are my precious nana." Oh mah hart 🥺😭💗

Gemma: We’re having a scan soon. So we'll be sharing the gender before long.

Branson: Cool, cool.

There was a moment of silence as if neither wanted to broach the reason for the call.

Gemma: I have chickens!

Branson laughed.

Branson: You and chickens, huh? Just like the dreams.

Gemma: (slowly) Yeah. Um, the woman having the birthday.

Branson: That was my sister Karli. So, hey, it turns out my sister has these dreams, too. Not about us, but other things. And we talked to a village elder about them. He had some insight. If you’re interested in hearing what he had to say?

Gemma: Yes, please.

Deep in thought, Gemma startled and attempted to stand.

Markus: Stay put. I’ll sit with you.

Markus: Something’s bothering you. What is it?

Gemma: I started prepping my new Simsta account and taking pictures.

Markus: Okay.

Gemma: I don’t know if I want to do this, be an influencer.

Markus: Then don’t.

Gemma: I don’t know what else to do.

Markus: Gemma, how old were you when you became the breadwinner of your household?

Gemma: I’m not sure exactly. Mid-teens maybe?

Markus: All those baby and toddler beauty pageants your mom entered you in. Did she set aside the money for you?

Gemma scoffed. Markus knew the answer to that already.

Markus: Babe, you’ve been contributing to the household since before you could walk. You’ve supported yourself, your mom, and her bad habits most of your life. You don’t have to do that anymore. 

Gemma: I know, but not earning money makes me feel…

Markus: Vulnerable?

Gemma: Guilty.

Markus sighed and kissed her temple.

Markus: We are a privileged couple. Even if you didn’t consider my inheritance, we both have passive incomes. We paid for our house outright. I work because I’m passionate about my job. Just take your time and figure out what your passion is. 

Gemma: I feel like my identity is - I dunno - lacking. “What do you do, Gemma?” Oh, I’m a trad housewife now.

Markus burst out laughing, his body shaking Gemma’s.

Markus: Yeah, no one is gonna buy that you’re a trad anything. Tell them you’re a retired actress. Or tell them you knit chicken clothes and train bees for a circus act. Who the fuck cares what other people think?
