Headcanon for Namora over Attuma x Okoye and short story.
Namora dislike of the courtship of Attuma and Okoye is not just rooted in hate and suspicion of surface dwellers. She cares for Attuma in a sense. He's not just a comrade she has stood beside but something close to sibling rivalry. As much as he irritates her, she is worried for him. Wounds from battles can be healed. But wounds to the heart are another thing. To me, I believe Namora would hate to see that. That level of hurt coming from a surface dweller above all. Between that and the life span of a surface dweller. Her pushback was all to be a warning for him. She would not change her mind about Okoye until Wakanda has properly joined Talokan in an alliance and had won battles with them against the Americans and forces that stood against Talokan. She would still show her irritation even as they got married. Namora would be the last to give her blessings to Attuma over his relationship and this would be long ways after Namor had approved of it himself. It took for her to see Okoye risk her life for any Talokan just the same as Attuma. But lastly, the birth of Attuma and Okoye's first daughter together would properly seal her approval. Attuma would ask her to take part in the Hetzmek ritual once their daughter was close to three months. Giving Namora the proper title of being the godmother to their daughter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Namora was quiet even as she stared at that the small babe held in Attuma's large hands. A small chubby face fit with a button nose, and lashes that rested on their cheeks. He held out the child to her though chuckled quietly when seeing Namora's shoulders grow stiff in response. "She will not bite you. " Attuma teased but merely flashed a grin not hiding the pride in his eyes when Namora simply glared at him before her gaze settled on the child again. Wrapped in a dark blue cloth, a chestnut hue face, with shiny jet-black hair, covered her head. But behind those tufts of hair were small pointed ears. Namora hadn't realized she took a step closer with curiosity, once seeing her ears. "Does she?" The question was so faint and yet there was a sense of hope underlining it in her tone. "Mm, we don't know yet," Attuma said lightly shrugging his shoulders but he too was curious. But that was a conversation for another time for he knew his love would have his head if he tried walking into the ocean with their baby. If not her, then surely Aneka and Shuri would follow. Namora nodded, although she had more questions but decided against them for now. A sharp breath slipped Namora when almond-shaped eyes fluttered open looking towards her. A cherub face that made Namora's eyes damp while she held out her arms to take the child now. Attuma carefully handed the child to her and hummed approvingly while Namora began to rock the infant who stared at her with sleepy eyes. Witnessing the faint smiles on the child's face or blowing kissy faces while trying to fall back asleep made Namora enamored. "Hm, she likes you. Remind me to send for you when she dares to fight sleep." Attuma offered while tilting his head. Though his eyes sparkled with humor. The smallest smile that dared to grace Namora's face was hidden by her own mask, "I am not your child's keeper." she huffed though there was no malice. And she failed to verbally mention she would visit sometime in the future too. And that she indeed drive her spear threw those that dare make the little one cry. ((Hetzmek would be an ancestral tradition for social integration, to mark the beginning of a new phase in their lives, and to present them to the community for the child. ))
There may not be a whole lot of attuma x okoye fics but baybeeee they are QUALITY. like why are like all of them so effing GOOD ?????
Fully giggling and kicking my feet while reading like every one.
To all the attoye writers, please never stop! to the ones who are thinking about writing, please do! and to the ones who can’t write a whole fic drop your ideas, rambles or hc’s anytime!
PS: I actually really love how borderline poetic they make attuma in fics. A man of few words but he makes everything he says count. i love it actually.
I painted Okoye and Attuma in my Indigenous art style. I have a solo exhibition, Katyiluka, in February and they’re going in it!
i really hope dick and kory get a chance to talk after their initial conversation about their visions of mar’i.
they had such a short amount of time to discuss something that held so much weight, it wasn’t fair to either of them. especially since they couldn’t say what they meant—although, they probably needed more time to process their true feelings.
i just really hate that one of their last conversations together (before everything went down) ended in them misinterpreting the other’s true feelings.
for kory, she finally understood why dick dismissed her whenever she talked about visions or destiny. to her, it probably seemed like he didn’t want this vision in particular to come true.
when kory says, “It’s like you said. To hell with visions,” i can only imagine the regret and rejection dick felt in that moment. her words definitely cemented the feeling that she didn’t want him in a romantic sense. i think this 100% has to do with the fact that dick doesn’t think himself worthy of her love (which, frankly, could be resolved if dude would just talk to her).
there are a lot of things both dick and kory have to work out within themselves and with each other and i really hope we see that pan out as we get into the second half of the season.
i get what you’re saying but you really are shouldering most of the blame on kory lol. she might be less “emotionally available” towards dick but you also have to put that observation into perspective. last season, dick was running off and making decisions without the team’s (and, most importantly, kory’s) input or knowledge. dick and kory’s relationship wasn’t exactly the closest because of his lack of communication. he’d pretty much dismissed everything she had to say so why would she feel comfortable telling him about a vulnerable experience that he probably would’ve witnessed sooner if he was around? 😭
i’m kind of like you in the respect that i don’t believe certain conversations have happened until i see it on screen for myself but unfortunately titans is pretty notorious for having the characters tell us that a conversation went down instead of actually showing us how it went down. i’m not sure if you watched the latest episode but the conversation between dick and kory cemented that yes, dick knows about her visions from last season. she came to him on her own time and had a conversation about it with him.
kory shouldn’t be expected to be “emotionally available” for a man who did nothing but shut her out and shut her down for a whole season. the reason for her opening up to gar, conner, and rachel is mostly because of them asking if she’s okay or to empathize with them and their problems. dick rarely, if ever, asked kory if she was okay during season 3. i’m not sure how you could ask her to be emotionally available to an emotionally and physically distant partner.
(also the part about the parenting book; kory can parent just fine, it’s couples counseling that she and dick need 😭)
Titans!Kory, she is not as emotionally available as her comic book self. She isn't, I'm sorry, she is just as secretive as Dick even. And as much as my evil side rejoice because FINALLY THE REFRESHMENTS I know that joke isn't funny if you are not a connoisseur of Brazilian memes but shhh you got it context
BUUUUT
She could have told him earlier, as she could have been honest about her visions and possessions last season, or her status as a princess the season before that instead of just leaving with minimal justification.
We all cut Kory A LOT of slack because we love her, but that girl opens up more to her teenagers son and daughter than to her adult life partner and THAT is fucked up
Kory for fucks sake read a parenting book BEFORE you decide to make Mar'i
when i was younger i noticed that in tv shows and movies, black/black-coded female characters were given the same personalities, traits, and never got a love interest like their white/white-coded female counterparts.
they were always loyal, sassy, confident, or bold. their defining trait was always loyal. their white/white-coded female counterparts always saw them as loyal which wouldn’t have been a big deal if their only purpose wasn’t to support the white/white-coded female character.
they either never had a love interest, gave up the chance to have one in favor of sticking with their white counterpart, or was pushed into some half-assed relationship with a character she didn’t have chemistry with.
what i didn’t understand is why couldn’t the black girl have a relationship? and i think this cookie-cutter way of portraying black girls in media is exactly why i wanted to be the white girl so badly. i never wanted to be sasha (bratz), i wanted to be chloe; i never wanted to be clawdeen (monster high), i wanted to be draculaura; i never wanted to be galleria or aqua (cheetah girls), i wanted to be dorinda. (you see the problem, right?)
i wanted to be the white girl because the black girl almost never gets a love interest. i wanted to be the white girl because i saw myself more in them than in the black girl.
i’m not saying that every single female character absolutely has to have a love interest but it would’ve been nice to see the black girl get some love for once.
i feel like dick doesn’t know the full extent of what kory was going through in season three. i mean we just assume that he knows about her blackouts and everything that went on in regards to kory, her family, and tameran but i genuinely believe that he doesn’t.
the scene where he tells kory that lex has been keeping tabs on her, she kind of averts her eyes when he says, “wanna find out?” and goes off to find answers on her own. that right there really cemented the fact (to me at least) that kory is hiding something from dick or at least shielding him from what really happened in/around the events of season three. it’ll probably come to light sooner or later and i needddd to see dick’s reaction when (if) it does.
