Darius goes through like ten different emotions there. I can see him losing it a little but he has to be silent while he does because otherwise he's going to wake up Hunter 😭 So he's just there, frozen, in the middle of setting Hunter down while Hunter is clinging to him and it's probably pretty uncomfortable but he's a little too busy processing what happened to care.

Then he reasons with himself that Hunter has to sleep somewhere comfortable and as much as he probably could, it's not a great idea to just keep carrying him around all night. So he tries to set him down once again and pry his hands gently from him.

And then Hunter makes the saddest little noise of protest Darius has ever heard in his life.

It's not even conscious but Hunter refuses to part with this warm person that he feels safe with and just clings even tighter to him. It's a losing battle for Darius at this point, if he has to hear that sad little sound again, his heart is going to break and he's only being a bit dramatic here, he didn't adopt Hunter to make him sad, after all.

Eber is going to end up checking what's going on later, because Darius wasn't in his room, and find him curled up with Hunter right there because he didn't have the heart to stop holding him with how intent Hunter seemed that he wanted him there. That it was an unconscious choice just made it harder and Darius only has so much willpower when it comes to Hunter. Luckily for him, he's an Abomination witch, so at least he could move the blankets so they could actually be covered.
