Hardwood Lumber Classification

Hardwood lumber is typically sold in two primary markets: the furniture industry and the pallet industry. The wood household furniture industry is the largest market for high grade hardwood lumber and hardwood veneer. These products are usually made with only Non 1 Common and better grades of lumber. These grades command a higher price than lower grades of lumber.

Hardwood lumber is rated according to its use. Its common grades are used in cabinetry, furniture parts, and flooring. The National Hardwood Lumber Association has developed grading rules for different types of lumber. Common grades are characterized by varying numbers of knots and grain. Knots are part of the wood's grain, but they can fall out and leave a hole in the board. Twists are multiple bends in a board. You can see page below for more info about the hardwood lumber.

Hardwood lumber is sold both in rough and surfaced form. The latter adds value to the lumber but is not favored by some buyers. Most lumber companies follow these rules. When making a purchase, always ask your lumber supplier about its grading system. This is an important step to make sure you get a quality product for your project.

The classification of hardwood lumber depends on the type of tree. Hardwoods are trees that lose their leaves each year, while softwoods are evergreen trees. The trees that produce hardwood lumber are slower growing and have a higher density of wood than their softwood counterparts. As a result, the cost of hardwood lumber is higher than that of softwood lumber.

Hardwood lumber is available in several species, ranging from red oak to white oak. Red oak is the most durable wood, and is often the primary choice for furniture and flooring. It has high durability and naturally occurring tannin compounds that make it resistant to insects and fungi. Oak lumber is also commonly used in frames and wine barrels.

Hardwood lumber is commonly harvested from deciduous trees. The tree sheds its leaves during the fall season, while evergreen hardwoods are found in tropical regions. The wood from these trees is usually denser than softwood and has a more complex structure than their counterparts. It is more dense and durable, and therefore is ideal for projects exposed to the elements or that require long lasting materials. The most common hardwoods in North America include oak, maple, hickory, and birch. Another popular hardwood is cherry.

The National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) has set a standard for measuring hardwood lumber. This unit of measurement is the board foot. This measurement system is used to ensure consistent quality. When comparing prices, consider the size of the boards that you are considering purchasing.
