I am so serious, I really think that Netflix is a fucking scourge the same way that the monopoly of the traditional publishing industry is.
The fact that I constantly see creators having to beg fans of established media, not even just popular shows but also massively loved adaptations, to watch and rewatch shows in a specific timeframe, because Netflix puts all weight on a crunch period of viewership numbers (with deliberately inflated goals to achieve) to determine whether a popular show lives or dies, as an excuse to put no marketing money behind it and then cancel it before anyone's contract is up for renewal (and therefore higher salaries), all while claiming to promote, and in fact having built their market share on, a business model of offering access to media to be watched at one's convenience, is literally like.
I'm not gonna add the "You best believe in cyberpunk dystopias because you're in one" meme but it really is a fucking blight upon the culture of anyone trying to tell any meaningful or enjoyable stories.
